Angie, you are hilarious! My 'dont ' is sloppy pants! I hate them, but some days they are the only ones that fit around my waist! (hangs head in shame)

Queen Mum, I only just read your comment! Get those pictures of you in your new oxfords out fast so that I can forgive you for wearing gear out in public. I *WANT* to forgive you :0)

Thank you Maya, for never wearing gear.

Simple Sparkles, why do you wear rubber flip flops to pick your son up?

Zap, unless its snowing and you had to wear classic Uggs IN THE SNOW, you just weakened my heart. But then, I just re-read your comment - some Ugg styles are fabulous, so I guess you need to elaborate.

AG, corduroy is very debatable.

Kristen, Kari, Julie and Taylor, I see no fashion don'ts in your comment! Thanks for the resuscitation.

Ooof, where do I begin?

* Flip flops to playground
* PPL on jeans when worn with my LC ankle boots (which is pretty annoying, considering the heel is so short. I think I need to post a picture, because I'm just not sure.)

Hm, just looked down at myself and have to add one more:
* stealing husband's fleece jackets (I love my Boden bf jacket, but it is not snuggly)

Wait - we can just have *one* ?? Whoops.

Get ready to have an apoplexy: I don't do hair removal.

My fashion don'ts are:

1) wearing cord jeans (but they are PPL, straight leg and nicely fitting) 2) I often wear gear in public....but only in the morning when I walk the kids to school. 3) some of my clothing choices could be age-inappropriate (graphic t's and hoodies) considering I'm 46. I need to be careful when I am over at the high school lest I am confused for a student....

Marlene and MPJ, this makes me sad :(.

Medusa, that's not a fashion don't in my book (FWIW).

Angie- I guess it's time for a good old fashioned whipping from you. I"ll take my 5 licks like a big girl and promise to never wear my gear into Office Depot again.....
I have one more outfit planned for my oxfords... then I'll post pics on Monday. Can't wait to show them off!

Kim, even though I went to school when corporal punishment was a very real thing, I'm sparing you from a lashing because you are SO stylish. Lets see the pics!

Angie, really? I thought that I was in apoplexy territory, for sure.

Not at all, Medusa. Many women in Europe and Asia don't shave. That's my culture and how I was brought up. I have many family members and friends who do not shave. I guess I find it normal, natural and am used to it. I do shave though, because I prefer the aesthetic. But it's a personal thing

No Angie, I think I will break your heart with my UGGS. I don't wear them when snowing ( I don't think they are waterproof), just when it's really, really cold... But I swear, I think that's my only one major offense...

Get ready for this one...I don't like oxfords! I know I know, I may eat my words when I see a pair I like someday, but as for now this is how I feel. Considering everyone else does like them, it feels like a sin not to. Also flip flops, everyone where I live wears them in the summer. I think that is about it. Angie....are you ok? lol. I hope you haven't fainted!

Hmm, I also never ever wear gear.

I like and wear cords them occasionally in the cold weather. The are all very nice, super small wale premium pairs, but still cords. I do not consider them sin, just very casual and am aware of that.

I have to ask - what is the problem with cords? I wear them because I like that they add texture to an outfit. What is inherently wrong with them? I also prefer a fine wale and definitely a clean cut not the crazy pleated baggy professor type!

thanks for the link Tanya. I am still steadfast in my love and planned continued wear of them especially with cozy sweaters in wintertime. I actually have my eye on these whenever SYC ends or I just break! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/31.....5149-0-0-2

ETA: so I guess I'm guilty of not one but 3(!) don'ts - low rise jeans, message tee, and cords. Oh my!

I probably do more don'ts that dos so its no use me listing them and I still feel I dont know enough rules to know when I'm breaking them...but I'm learning. I live in the centre of the city so I dont go out in my really trashy gear because I am sure to be seen.
As far as cords go, I like the concept but I can never find a pair that looks nice. they seem to be a really hard pants to fit.

Medusa, I envy you. I despise shaving and hair removal. No matter what advice anyone gives me, it's always painful and always time consuming. I am not brave enough to challenge the norm though That is yet another reason why I hate summer so much. I stop shaving as soon as the slightest drop in temperature happens, and don't start again until it's 85 degrees or over.

I wish our culture wasn't so uptight about hair removal. It's not unhygienic at all to have normal body hair, so who cares? There is really no purpose for it. I just do it because I'm a sheep. Sigh.

I'm not sure if this is a don't, but I mix gold and silver. Like there will be gold hardware on my handbag and I'll wear a silver necklace. Is that a don't?

Some of these don'ts are funny - it's like going on an interview where they ask you to point out your faults and you say that you are a workaholic! Geez!

I wear gear to Trader Joe's, because it is literally right across the driveway from my gym. I refuse to go home and change when I'm already, you know, right there!

I wear matching jewelry.

I am not always successful in fighting my overall matchy-matchy tendencies.

I have been known to leave the house in shorts and flip-flops when the temps are in the triple digits.

OK,
I love to match shoes and bags. Is that a big no no? I thought it came back a bit. I also like to dress all in one color. I like khaki near my face.
I do not like harem pants.
Hmm, I wear gear: cute yoga pants with cute moto-stlye jacket and black sneakers(proper PPL) to the gym which is 5 min. away at 6:30 AM. I am not changing that early in the morning. It does not look that much like gear but may be a no no.

I'm really, really embarrassed to admit this, and to also admit that I caved, but I have spent the last 6 weeks dressing like a 15 yr old boy. Some of you know that I am "uniform mom" for the HS marching band and I swore that I would never, ever wear the dreaded crew neck, spirit-wear tee. Well, I've been wearing it to every game and competition after being singled out at a band boosters meeting. Apparently the band director complained that a few of us were "styling", and not supporting the band. So, I caved in. I'm wearing the #$*!! shirt and not making waves for my son's sake. The things we do for our kids! Well! I feel better now that I've gotten that off my chest!

I've got a few *don't*s that I can't give up: I wear yoga clothes if I need to run errands before or after yoga and I can't even guarantee it's 'cute' yoga clothes, I often need to switch out of shoes into slip-on EasySpirits for my last class I teach (I have yet to switch out of boots though!), I wear sunglasses into the grocery store if I am there without having washed and fixed up (this only works during daylight hours

P.S. Pending Fashion Don't: I have thinking about putting my Stegmann wool clogs back into use for this winter - my feet were SO happy with them

Debora, snort, that's really funny!

It's possible that in the summer, when I've been gardening, I might be seen at the grocery store in flip flops. And you can be sure my toes are probably even dirty. I run in and out really fast.

I wear my hair in a messy bun, or, as Maya would say, the "sloppiest, laziest, copout-iest hair style in modern history."

Just to be clear - wearing sports gear/yoga gear to and from your exercise routine is fabulous. It's when you leave it on or purposely regard it as causal wear to run errands with that I am unforgiving in every respect. Although heading out to ER/hospital in gear is fine too.

I'm physically unable to continue reading this thread since the gear wearing ladies (bar Kim, Debora and Beth who have redeemed themselves) have weakened my heart considerably. I can live with the corduroy, Uggs and even the flip flops, but I CANNOT condone the wearing of gear to run errands. I am officially on sick leave and out of commission until further notice.

Do work clothes count as "gear"? I am trying to up my style quotient at work slowly. It's tough though, because I have a lot of "don'ts" there, the number one being "Don't wear anything that will make you sad to have ruined."

I usually stick to jeans and a tshirt or other knit, or a woven button down. Occasionally I'll toss on a hoodie or cardi if it's cool. My shoes have to be practical and comfy - usually Cons or my Doc Marten shoes (though I am planning some nifty boots soon). I always fix my hair and try to at least put on mascara. I do the best I can but will never win fashion awards for my work clothes. I try to look like a pro but dress practically for the job.

If this is "gear", I do stop to run errands in it between work and home. Sorry, Angie! OTOH, I never wear work out/sports gear anywhere but jogging or biking.

My other fashion don'ts - logo t's, and low rise jeans. The latter at least I do not wear to work, considering all the bending down I do!

@randomthought. Yeah I was wondering about that because some jobs you have to wear gear ' gym instructor" or physical education teacher'. Some jobs require you to wear a very unflattering uniform. Luckily I"m not in that boat but that would be difficult to work around.

I DON'T WEAR GEAR I DON'T WEAR GEAR! Is she stirring?
Well, I do wear gear for sports of course.

- I like to match my bag and my shoes.
- Probably my number one don't that I do in public, is I ignore rules for how to dress short people. I don't wear shoes that cut my leg off right at the ankle, but besides that I am quite liberal.
- I like colors of beige with a lot of pink undertone in it. I am so naughty.

@Debora: LOL those band people sound a little rigid
