My Nicholas K cardigan is perhaps my favorite piece. Got it from Thredup and it is amazing. It's thick, warm wool with a lovely drape, it has thumb holes, it's a creamy off white that feels luxurious (because I can't keep my light colored clothes clean), best $40 I've spent in a while.

FI - I replaced the McQueen scarf quite awhile ago. I never thought of it.

Does jewelry count? Mine is a gold necklace with a single tanzanite. The tanzanite was in a pair of tanzanite earrings that was my husband’s first gift to me. We lost most of my jewelry in a robbery but the burglar dropped a tanzanite earring. A local jeweler who made my wedding set came up with a design to feature it. It’s a symbol to me of always turning lemons into lemonade. (And of upping your jewelry limit in your insurance, but that’s another story.)

I would love to know what your pick is, Carla!!

I don't know if I could pick just one... Maybe I will take a page out of Janet's book and list top-contenders??

My most-loved loungewear item is a Uniqlo fluffy yarn jacket. Looks like a muppet; feels like a hug. I wear it several times a week.
Favorite bottoms: these Paige boyfriends.
Favorite top: currently a cashmere funnel-neck sweater from LLBean.
Favorite outerwear: either my Barbour jacket or my refurb'd vintage aviator coat. I got the coat early this year, so it has not gotten much wear, but everytime I put it on feels like pure magic.

This old blue floral dress. It is getting pretty old and tired but I adore the shape, floral pattern and feeling of a relaxed summer day when I wear it. It is of an unknown brand and cost $30 at a second hand shop five years ago.

Carla, what are your favourite pieces ?

I love this thread! Fun assortment of items, everyone - and quite varied too

I'm going with five items, and it was very easy to choose them:

  • Citron Coat because its the BEST colour, dressy and comfy, unique, Modern Retro, playful, impeccable quality, and makes me feel very Powerfully Pretty.
  • Citron Furla because it goes with everything, is beautifully made, always makes me smile......and is for that reason quite battered!
  • Pearl necklaces because they are custom-made and part of my style soul. I have two, at varying short lengths. The pearls were handpicked and a gift from hubs Greg. Very special.
  • Red specs because they are fiery!
  • Red Valentino because the YLF community surprised me with it 12 years ago.

All items are the most worn items in my wardrobe, apart from the Valentino that I am now saving for good. It has to last till I'm a hundred.

Carla, this is a tough one. I am not sure I can pick just one garment.

Burberry Trench Coat - I love wearing this coat. It is about 15 years old and I still feel fantastic about the purchase.

Theory Cognac Reefer Coat - ditto above. This coat is about 12 years old.

Amber bracelet from Mr SF - love this piece. So unique.

Wedding ring from first marriage - three interlocking rings (yellow and rose gold) - similar to a Cartier ring

Well, I’m tickled that so many folks are able to identify lovable items so easily. I think we strive to ‘love everything in our closet’, but some items just stand out for the way they make us feel when we wear them - whether it’s a cashmere hug, the best jeans ever, sentimental accessories or toppers with superpowers!

My most loved is a pair of patterned MAC jeans I picked up in 2019. They were actually designated for the donate pile, until I decided to tailor them earlier this year. Now the fit is perfection! I have worn them 69 times this year alone! A close second is my red beret. It is more than a hat to keep my head warm, and has become a signature! 3rd is a tie between a multi-stripe t from Boden (24 wears) and a lilac trench with a silver lining.

For someone who can’t pick my own favorites, I sure do have opinions about what I think others peoples favorites “really” are. Lol!

Well, I donated my favourite yesterday. It was my cobalt boots. I had done a thread about them getting all scuffed having been worn 111 times. So I am kind of sad but maybe will find some new boots one day that I love as much.

I feel like I need to give a shout out to my cobalt blue IRO leather jacket. I’ve had it for 7-8 years and it’s a size snug now, but I’m not letting go of it — if I don’t zip it, it still works. I don’t wear it as often as I used to, but I still love it and it’s a signature piece for my style. If it were a size larger I’d probably wear it constantly!

Nikki, cool. How often do you wear it, with what?

A medium blue 100-cotton sweatshirt from Old Navy. I don't know how I lived without this sweatshirt previously,

FashIntern, I wear the jacket regularly throughout the fall and winter with jeans, leggings and skirts. It is quite warm. My grandfather wore it for masonry work. I discovered it forgotten in his old garage.

This robe. Isn't it very 2020 to pick a robe as a favorite garment? But I seriously love this thing. I love the color and pattern, I love that it's from a small company and seems so well-made, I love that it's all cotton and feels nice, I love that I can wear it in the summer or after a nice hot shower in the winter, and love just looking at it hanging from its hook.

Gosh this is tough. I have a silk leopard print shirt (white and grey) from Banana Republic that I wear only once every month or two but it makes me so happy. Or maybe my oversized Everlane blazer. Neither is worn often these days — these are just the things that give me joy to know they’re in my closet. For frequent use, the winner might be the low rise R13 skinny jeans I got at the beginning of the pandemic. Every time I wear them - and that’s a lot of days - I think how glad I am to have comfortable flattering jeans for working from home. So my favorites seem to be the things that spark gratitude and joy!

It’s an item I almost didn’t purchase. I can’t tell you how long I stood at Steinmart pondering whether it was too much for me, or just before that line. And since I was out of town, not an easy return.

It is a long, unevenly hemmed, black backgrounded, multicolored, very abstract floral print top. I wear it over black pants, black just covering the knee length skirts, and midi skirts. It has more material than I usually like but it is thin and soft, so it lays flat. And it works no matter my weight fluctuations. I’m not “saving it for good” but it’s not an everyday wear either, as I want to enjoy it for years to come.

Fun question.

I’ve been thinking about this and finally decided: my favorite garment is my 21 year old duffle coat I bought on vacation in England. Other than one of the sleeve toggles got rubbed off in the crowd at the night before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, it still looks new. And I’ve worn it a lot. I need to replace that toggle.

It looks like this one, but with a different tartan inside. Mine has a little cashmere, too, for extra softness.

Not sure I can pick a favorite garment, but in terms of the workhorses of all workhorses, with cost per wear practically nothing, worn multiple times a week for years, it's gotta be my beloved studded belt from Streets Ahead.

Carla - more on your patterned MAC jeans. I'm not familiar with that brand .....where did you find them? I've got my eyes open to a new pair of jeans, but my idea of what I want is very specific . That said, I'm investigating all brands!

MAC is a German brand (designed in Germany, but fabricated in other places) and I believe more common in small indie shops. I found mine in the town next door (10 k over) at a ‘fine ladies wear’ type of shop, but one of the local ladies wear places carries them as well.

Interesting , thanks! Also : “fine ladies wear” - love it !

Umm, err, yikes!
I don't know. Most used is not necessarily my favorite. Most useful is not necessarily my favorite. So maybe most fun finds?
No. I can't do it. The list is too long. You have stumped me !

This is kind of like asking which of your children is your favourite lol. I have such an emotional relationship with my clothes that I honestly cannot pick a fave.

Ha ha, I am with Deborah!! How can I answer that?

Also because "favourite" can be interpreted so many ways...best workhorse item, thing that makes you feel most special when you put it on, thing you can't imagine doing without in the closet (i.e. core essential), thing that you or others associate most with you (signature).

I honestly love almost everything in my closet! And what I don't love, I really like!

However...here are a couple that were surprises, in a way, which makes them extra fun.

Both my two piece dresses (summer and winter) -- I did not expect to like them as much or find them as versatile, but I reach for both in their respective seasons again and again.

Leopard print silk shirt -- such a beautiful piece to wear. Always feel 500% in it.

J. Crew utility coat -- oh how I wish they would make this style again. It is SUCH a great coat for me in so many ways I cannot even count. And no, the shorter version will not do it for me. Needs to be this length. Please, J. Crew. Do it again!!

Comrags dress -- best summer dress ever!

Reiss tuxedo jacket.

Pure Amici cashmere "hoodie" -- oh my gosh I am glad I sprung for this during NAS. It was pricey for me but it has lasted. Yes, it pills a bit -- but it's amazing how often and how easily I wear it, with everything from jeans to fancy dresses.

LL Bean Mariner -- because WORKHORSE!!

This is something to ponder because I don’t have an immediate choice springing to mind, which surprises me!
