What is the Nordstrom Half Year sale?

I have a bunch of things in my shopping cart and then yesterday I got a card advertising the sale. Is it worth waiting a week to see if anything in my cart goes on sale, or is this more like a "dump all unsold winter stuff" kind of sale. What is in my cart is mostly inexpensive summer T shirts to try.

It's the end of season sale - so Spring & Summer items. It is NOT the NAS, which is brand new merchandise marked down at the beginning of the new Fall season in July.

Seriously? May is the end of summer season? I can see it as the end of spring, but summer? So I should be doing some massive shopping now because soon the summer choices will be gone?

I share the same concerns, Peri! Angie mentioned something about fall clothes coming into stores somewhere in a recent blog post, and I thought, What?!

I wonder if it has to do with the region you live in, though. My recollection—although I've been paying attention for only a couple of years—is that the real fall stuff shows up here (Midwest) in early August. I sure hope that's the case, because I have hardly any summer clothes and am in the same boat as you!

Here in the Midwest, the summer sales usually start around the 4th of July. Summer just comes to us so much later!

As for fall stuff, I remember that hitting Midwest stores in August too. Winter items usually start appearing in late September or early October.

As we don't get much of a fall or spring here (mostly just winter, lots and lots of winter), I try to resist the urge to buy too much for spring, summer or fall!

If you order and then the item(s) are discounted, you can call the toll-free number and after giving them the order number they will give you the discount. I am playing chicken so as to get double points on those two days. Unfortunately, I have missed out on a couple of items. . . .If anything goes on sale on my Wish List before then, however, I order ASAP because those items are bound to sell out.

Em, it starts Wednesday of next week. I went ahead and ordered what I had, just a few T shirts. I will ask for an adjustment if any of them go one sale.

No card here yet, so thanks for the heads up. On the topic of fall clothes coming in, I have been buying lightweight items for a trip this summer. I'm afraid to wait until it actually gets warm enough to wear them!

Thanks for the heads-up. I don't really need that much more for my summer wardrobe, although I'd love to find a pair of neutral flat sandals. My current pair are very long in the tooth.

It seems like Nordstrom is putting current-season items on sale more quickly than they used to in the past. I just received an order of cropped pants & jeans, clearly intended for spring/summer, that I pulled the trigger on because they were 40% off original price or thereabouts. I don't remember Nordstrom giving that much of a discount on current season items a few years ago.

Most retailers work on a 6-8week markdown cycle...maybe quicker for higher fashion items. And new goods are scheduled to arrive monthly. So what's masked down now, in the middle of May, probably came in at the beginning of April. Nordstrom only has two advertised clearance sales, in May and November for women and June and December for men, but they have clearance all year round. (You can find on line or at one of the stores.). That's why I don't understand why people say nordstrom is expensive...they have things from mid-price and up, and there is always something on sale. I've gotten some great buys there...and if you have a nordstrom charge, you can rack up some points.

I'm planning to sit this one out for the first time in years, but it's a GREAT sale for kids shoes! I always made sure to get there first thing on the first day, because the shelves clear out pretty quickly. I usually look for Geox or Ecco or other higher-end brands that I wouldn't pay full price for, for kids. In the November half-yearly, I pick up winter boots for the kids.

Spring items will be something like 40-50% off. New Summer items will be coming in for the sale, too. Some departments get special purchases just to put out in the sale racks. The half-yearly sales hold the best prices, while the Anniversary sale is about new product, as Angie said. If your dominant season is spring/summer, the half yearly is the best!
