What is the most memorable outfit that you ever wore?

I came across this question on another blog and I thought I would pose it to you. Do you have one particular outfit that stands out for the happy memories it brought you? Can you trace the important events of your life by the clothes you wore?

Other than my wedding gown, I can clearly remember the outfits I wore to the hospital to deliver my babies. I also have wonderful memories of a beautiful, gunmetal gray ball gown with a sequined top, dropped waist, and satin skirt. I felt like a princess in it.

How about you? What is the most memorable outfit that you ever wore? Bonus points for pictures!

What a great question! I can think of several. Some stylish, some just very sentimental.

hmmm....when i saw this subject thread i immediately thought of my wedding gown...but that such a common response.

i'll go with my FIRST halter dress. it was knee length, had a chocolate background and was covered with a purple and chartreuse (sp?) graphic floral design. I got this dress back when I was 25 and wore it to my then bf's (now dh) hooding ceremony. quite late in the game to halter dresses, lol. I never thought I could wear one bc of my large bust but it was a surprise when i tried it on for fun. if i rifle around my facebook I might even find a pic of it......

hmmm...only a wedding pic on facebook at the moment. here goes!

I actually don't remember much about my pre YLF outfits, except for one..It was a very scratchy yellow ruffled dress that my Mom made me wear to my sisters First Communion when I was around 8 or so. It bugged me so much I still remember it 40 years later! (And she wouldn't let me change it..Mean Mom...LOL)

Is it any wonder I only wanted to wear comfy clothes and didn't love ruffles until this year?? LOL Deep issues I guess!

My sister remembers important events by outfit...I remember by what grade I was in in school.

Okay, I have to post this photo - this outfit was sadly quite unmemorable, but the moment was priceless. It's me at last year's post-Oscars Vanity Fair party posing with Keanu Reeves. I SO WISH I had known about YLF, because I would have worn something so much more amazing had I known I'd be there. Vanity Fair actually published a picture of Heidi Klum with me in the background, and it took me weeks to recover from the trauma...

She edited the film that won best short documentary (the one where the former producer seized the mike from the director during his speech). I was pretty unprepared to attend an event like this, having just flown down from Anchorage! My sister looked great, though - someone in New York designed a gown for her.

Alaskagirl--color me impressed! I may be in the minority here, but I find Keanu dreamy!

Though it's gotten several wears already, my most memorable and beloved outfit has to be my dark blue Gucci halter dress. I bought it in Vegas and beat myself up about the purchase for awhile before finally allowing myself to enjoy how impeccably well made it is and how amazing I feel when wearing it. The pictures don't do the subtle draping justice but it truly feels like a wearable piece of art. And best of all, it needs almost nothing else to make it be an "outfit."

Taken together these two pics give an idea of it (though neither is ideal).

Oh, this is a fun one! Mine is easy. When I was 17 I was in a production for my drama troupe where I got to play a seductive villain from the 1920s. Although I was a decent actress, it was an all youth troupe and I always got cast as the mother or other older supporting female cast member because most of the other girls could act older than their years to save their life. So, it was my first role in years where I wasn't playing the matron. I made a replica of a cap sleeve "non-flapper" dress of the era. It was black and slinky and I wore it with a wool full length coat with fur trim and a black cloche. My hair was short and I waved it and wore a long strand of pearls and red lipstick.

I love being on stage (or anywhere, really, in costume) and I just remember feeling so sexy in it. Looking back at the pictures-- it looked as good as I thought it did!

My most memorable outfit was my "going away" outfit from my first wedding in 1984. It was an ivory wool suit with a slim skirt and a thigh-length double-breasted jacket. The buttons on the jacket were black and square shaped. I bought an ivory felt hat with a black velvet ribbon, an ivory blouse with tiny black "polka dots" that on close inspection were square shaped, and ivory and black spectator pumps whose cut-out holes were also square shaped. Oh, and sheer ivory hose (don't laugh -- they were in style then!) And a corsage of those lovely ivory roses with red edges on the petals.

Yes, it was the epitome of matchy-matchiness, but it all seemed very Princess Di-like to me at the time and I felt like a million bucks wearing it off to my honeymoon!

Men's embroidered pajamas from the 40's that I wore to very avant-garde opera production in Charleston, SC. It was so avant-garde that people walked out mid-performance.
I still have the pajamas, but they're far too large for me now. They were royal blue and gold with a gold embroidered dragon down the front.

What a great thread! I love reading all of these stories. One outfit, and the occasion, really sticks out in my mind, circa 1997. I was pregnant with my first child, but it was really early so no one knew, and I wasn't showing yet. But we were extremely thrilled and excited. We had a friend's wedding to attend; the reception was at the Chicago Historical Society, in this gorgeous ballroom with a huge vaulted ceiling with stained glass. It was dressy, but not quite black tie, if I recall. I wore a long jersey dress, long-sleeved, with a deep v-neck. It was a deep midnight blue. I found some navy platform heels to go with it, and I wore my hair up, with a pearl choker around my neck. I remember feeling so glamorous and chic, and we had so much fun!

Too cheesy to say my wedding dress? I was married in Dec so it's still a new memory for me. And my sister picked it out, she was so proud and plans to wear it herself at some point when she marries.

Yup, my first thought was my wedding day also. I definitely remember what I was wearing on key days. I wore a full length, midnight blue gown and cream pearls when I finished college, my peers wore mini dresses but I felt amazing. I made the decision that day, at 18, that it's okay to dress differently to those around you.

Great question! In eighth grade, when I was 13, I made an empire waist dress with cute puffed sleeves in a beautiful green print and proudly wore it with matching green wedges. It had seven little pearl buttons down the front and pleating on the bust. It was very difficult for me to make, but I felt like a model in it! I will never forget the way I felt when I wore it to school the first time. I wish I still had it!

On my first day of kindergarten I wore a knee-length red dress with puffed short sleeves and a flared skirt. I absolutely loved that dress, in large part because sewn inside the skirt was a bell. I thought that bell was the greatest thing, and I still think that dress is my favorite piece of clothing ever.

Ooh - my most memorable outfit ever was my Easter dress, coat and hat when I was 3 (almost 4 years old!) The coat was FURRY, the dress was pink and green, and I had new saddle shoes - I LOVED it! Also, notice my cross-body bag? I was stylin' back in those days! My younger sister's coat was navy blue with a white lace bonnet - get a load of that bonnet! Get a load of that grin on her face! We were so excited!
