Hmm, spending a year only allowing myself 12 purchases has really helped to get me out of the constant buying cycle I had found myself in, but now I think my biggest challenge is in making sure each purchase is "the one" without over-thinking/OCDing about it. There are a couple things that trip me up here.
#1... holding out for a 10 without being unrealistic about it.
#2... some trends take a while to grow on me, and by the time my eye has adjusted, there is a new trend on the horizon that I'm looking sideways at. I *want* to be able to embrace the newer trend sooner as to get more mileage out of it, rather than go with what is becoming so mainstream that everyone and their dog is sporting it. Does that make sense?
I plan to continue my shopping "diet" (can you say 'three kids in college soon'?) through this next year with allowing myself 13 purchases in 2013. I noticed that I have 13 categories of clothing (summer dresses, winter dresses, bottoms, sleeveless tops, l/s tops, etc.... ) so that means that in 2013 I will add one item to each category. So goshdarnit, each item that gets added has to be a winner and be able to stick around for a few years. There will be no room for "oops, what was I thinking?!?"
