What is it with me and Talbot's?

I thought I would swear off Talbot's this year, because I don't really think they embody the style direction I'm heading in (whatever *that* is). But every fall, I am drawn towards their jackets, in part because they always fit me well, and I always find myself trying them on (and sometimes buying them). Here's an example. I just don't know that I can reconcile it with my casual style, and yet, I think it's quite lovely. (I also think that the collar may be awkwardly large). What do you think? Could it be "me"? (I would wear it indoors, unbuttoned)

Lovely color on you but it looks bulky to me - the collar is large and the fit is boxy. I've seen you look so much better in other jackets so I have to say pass.

Lol! IKWYM about Talbot's in general but I have to say that I LOVE this jacket on you. It looks sassy and stylish the way you are wearing it. I think it really suits you. Great texture and pattern.

I like the jacket! I've liked your other jackets from Talbots too. In fact I've been inspired to go try on things from there, but they never fit the same on me, too boxy.

Maybe Talbots does petite cuts really well!

This definitely does not look conservative styled with jeans and boots! The only thing that would give me pause is that the collar would feel too much in the way for indoors (for me).....

this reminds me of lumberjack plaid so, even tho executed in tweed, it feels more casual.

It is a beautiful jacket and it looks so much better on you than on the model. The double breasted/straight cut is a little voluminous but I think you can pull it off with skinnies, etc.

The only thing I'm a little dubious about is the bulk of the pockets.

ETA2: I totally recognize that striped shirt you're wearing under it - it's the one from LOFT right?

I actually think this is really fun the way you are wearing it here! If you paired it with a pencil skirt it would look...well....like TALBOT'S. But worn like this, layered with the jeans, the wild colours, the pattern mix, I think it's kind of amazing!

I do see that the collar's width could make it feel more like an outdoor jacket. But last year I wore a similar tweed jacket right through November as my outdoor jacket, and loved it!

It's a super cute jacket, and I know that Talbot has quality things. It fits you well, and the colour is fantastic on you.
However.
Do you plan to wear it inside only? Then I do think the big collar is in the way of doing this. It is also quite boxy. How well would it fit under a coat? To me this looks more like an outside jacket for warmer temperatures.

I am having a hard time answering because I am distracted by the fabulousness of that checked shirt under the colorful striped sweater. I am also digging those boots. Okay, but back to the question at hand, it is easy for me to see the jacket as a casual outdoor jacket. Indoors is tougher. It does remind me though of a navy bouclé Chanel-esque jacket that I wear indoors and I always feel a little dressier on those days, but since I pair it with jeans, not too much out of character. I think this Talbots jacket is cute, and the cut and collar is not overwhelming. I would have to ponder some more whether it is right, right, right or whether the cut is a tad conservative.

Sounds like the jury is still out on whether this would work for an indoor jacket. I think it's too short and the collar is too open for it to just be an outdoor jacket (I get too cold without something closed up around my neck and keeping the breezes out from below).

LOL, Suz, I never in a million years would have worn it over what I'm wearing in the pic. But I'm glad you like it!

And Scarlet, I'm glad you like that combo, too - it's one of my new faves. I can't believe I ever had doubts about my purple gingham shirt, which I now wear all the time.

Sylvie, yes, that's the Loft sweater. I'm quite happy with it (especially over my purple gingham shirt!).

Isis, I do think that Talbot's petites just happen to fit me well. Whenever I put on a 4P in Talbot's, the jacket is sure to fit perfectly.

This jacket is super cute on you (super cute!) and it's not looking Talbot-y at all on you.

But I know what you mean, there's something about the way Talbot's styles things that's so stodgy.

I also have a very special place in my heart for Talbots, because they were one of the first to offer petites in quality fabrications, and I could find things there that actually fit.

I think you rock this jacket but for outdoors. Toss on a scarf, and you are all set for fall. It looks absolutely amazing with the outfit you had on. Talbots needs you as a model, seriously.

Okay, I am more focused now I am moving into a clear yay--the cut, color, and fit are really good on you. It looks great with jeans. Maybe I was first picturing it outdoors because it looks thick, but It's really no different from wearing a leather moto or something indoors. BBQ!

Jonesy - I'm thinking of wearing it mostly with jeans - black turtleneck, jeans, scarf, and boots. But if I can think of ways to wear it for work that don't look too conservative, I'll try that as well. If you have ideas, let me know : )

It's totally cute! I think Talbots jackets are usually pretty classic, so you can definitely style them in a funky way.
