The colours that make people ask me if I am tired or unwell are optic white, taupe and acidic yellow/citron/lemon. I actually could wear a warm camel.

When I wear tomato red, warm pinks, melon/corals I get the most complements about how well I look.

I like pinky beiges. It's the yellowy ones that suck me dry.

Beige looks radiant on some people. Believe your own eyes and be happy.

Does anyone else avoid soul-sucking fushia?

I'm jealous that beige looks great on you! I've always liked and wanted to wear it because I do think it's classy, but it makes my skin look terrible. I'm so happy for you and agree that it needs a better name and happy associations from now on!

(LOL, Joy - I totally avoid it like the plague!)

I'm with Joy - fuchsia is bad on me too. I love beige and wear it back with neutrals - it definitely has a place in my wardrobe.

It really is kind of magical how a color can be deadly on one person and illuminating on another. My mother had a beige-based wardrobe in the early '60s, when the very word "beige" had connotations of glamor and sophistication, and she certainly never looked drab. I envy you the ability to look good in a traditional trenchcoat, Aziraphale! I must avoid all yellow-based beiges, but love a certain creamy, rosy beige that is, unfortunately, rare. As for fuchsia, the harsh, magenta-ish shade is awful for me, too, Joy--and yet, when a dollop of white is mixed into that fuchsia, it becomes a deep raspberry pink that is one of my best colors.

Warm beiges look great on me too. My Burberry trench coat is a very light tan colour that could be considered beige. I have warm coloured skin so it makes sense that warm colours work for me.
I look sick in most pastels. Especially pink.

I was curious about beige after reading your comment. It has been years since I last tired beige. I wondered if something might have changed that would have allowed me to wear it more easily.

I went to the mall yesterday and tried a variety of different beiges next to my face. I still love it, but it really does not work for me as a color next to my face. But I did try.

Can we see the cardi? Is it the colour of this jumper?

I love soul sucking beige! Nudes have been very trendy for the past year or so, but are still a classic & neutral palette.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement!

JAileen, it says 'ash' on the label but it's really a neutral beige, not grey.

Angie, I always find it hard to tell colours in screen photos -- especially nondescript neutrals -- but it's something like that jumper, yes. It's that light, and perhaps even more neutral. It's definitely not a warm beige or a camel.

Actually, it's closer in colour to those trousers you're wearing, I think.

Angie, I love that look. Is that sweater beige?
Head-to-toe single neutral color (or tone on tone) looks so sophisticated to me.
I really can't wear warm beige, but many women with warm skin tone look amazing in beige.

Elisabeth and Minnie, the colours in Greg's pics are just about 100% accurate. To my eye, the jumper and trousers are a version of off-white (tan to be precise). My leather jacket is cream. And a pinky beige is a form of blush.

I agree with Angie. The colors in her outfit are not what I would define as beige. I could wear those colors.

Angie, Greg's photos are probably spot-on, but my screen may not be

So what's beige, then, exactly?

Beige is warmer - like a light camel.

I googled beige and came up with the attached... so beige is like blush, with many variations and shades. What I think of as beige could be very different to another person.

I guess with blue for example we accept there are a huge number of shades, tones and variations, and would not describe a top as blue, but as navy or denim blue or aqua. With beige there is less variation (there is not a dark beige really), but there is still a range.

I've long been a fan of beige, oatmeal, taupe, and I think they suit my autumn coloring (light brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin). I'm considering an oatmeal cardigan this fall because it would work so well with my earthy toned fall wardrobe. I think there's something about fall that makes me crave warmer, muddier, earthier tones rather than the clear brights of summer. I say if it suits you, wear and enjoy it! I look forward to wearing my cream pullover with blue jeans and cognac boots and accessories as soon as the weather cools!

I had my colors *done* back in the '80s so that I would know what type of beige-ish-ness worked for me as so many shades do not. Brava for you for finding something that works; I am envious.

And soul sucking is particular to the person. My soul sucking colors tend to be pastel cool toned ones including lavender, pinky beige, and muddy colors.

" Leave no clothing color option untried" is my motto.

It's all in the shade and depth, gradations abound; texture and shine come into play; fabric content and quality. Believe your eyes and forget vomit names and labels.
Beige is a great clasic neutral, so if you have found " your" beige, it can be very useful and versatile.
