What I bought-lace and sparkles

I have been in a self imposed shopping hiatus since November- after a flurry of purchases from September to November.

Today I broke it!!

I visited a lovely local boutique and added a new black lace dress - NZ designer Ingrid Starnes - perfect for the wedding I am attending in mid winter with a coat outdoors. Made in NZ.

And a caramel sweater - with a shine and sparkle through it. Portuguese brand Robens Saloner - perfect for wearing with jeans and boots, or black pants - and a perfect match for my faux fur.

What is more they were on sale for $99 each;)

I am delighted because they fit in with my winter needs- fit my style direction - and I love them.

I agree - the sweater will be fine for my work and casual meals with friends during the winter. It is too warm at the moment but in another month it will be great.

Oooh! You "go" with your wallpaper in that dress!

It's gorgeous. I love how it can swing casual or dressy. This would be perfect for my life. You mentioned on my thread that the boots I bought would work for you -- I think this is true about us. We live in different climates but have very similar needs apart from temperature differences and your need for more sporty rain-ready gear, and mine for more snow-ready urban-feeling but comfortable stuff. This is feminine, yet not too "girly." Dressy, yet casual (with the button/ shirt dress vibe).

The sweater is killer gorgeous and you will find it SO USEFUL. I have a similar thing in silver from Club Monaco. I don't wear it a ton...maybe 10 to 15 times per year. But when I wear it, I am always SO GLAD to have it. It's the perfect piece when you're just not sure. You want to dress up a bit...but you know the others will be in jeans and flannel shirts. Or they are going to be in business wear...but you've just come from the soccer field and don't have time to go home and change and needed something substantial under your coat.

That dress was made for you, it fits you perfectly. I also love your sweater, the lose knit means that you keep warm if there is a bit of a chill in the air without overheating - both great additions to your wardrobe and look stunning on you.

Wow, it's admirable that you were able to stay shopping free for that long - given the Holidays were in the middle of this. I love the two outfits shown here. They both suit you so well in different ways. The first dress is the sweetest thing, yet it has some badass-ness to it because it's black and has lace. Did you try it with converse or flat tennis and your hair done up or flipped back?
The second look is also enticing! The sweater is simply beautiful. It looks especially good with your cognac footwear. It looks cozy and chic, just the type of thing to be wearing casually while looking good.
I think you won't regret having broken your purchase ban for these.

Joy - yes haha I do match my wall. Yes that was it exactly, I felt very confident that these will get sufficient wear.

Thanks Dianna - it has been a while since I wore lace - I had two shell lace tops in the mid 1990s and I cannot remember anything since (aside from lingerie)

Emily - I am not sure why the jumper would not work on you - is it the colour or the texture? It is a bit chunky but I liked the colour so much and the texture. And the fit is good too.

Sarah - I love caramel and toffee - as soon is gets into beige or fawn colour though I cannot wear it....

Thanks Angie - I thought of you with the dress after seeing you in some lovely lace dresses. It was meant to be as it is such a good fit and length on me.

Cardiff Girl - yes it did feel good!! I did buy some lingerie in early February, but aside from that no clothing purchases since late November. I do this once a year - I vary the time of the year that I take a two month break but I find it useful when I do start shopping again that my eye is better.

Thanks Krishnidoux - I am going to experiment a bit with the dress. I could see it worn undone with leggings or black pants underneath, and I might try with flats too. In store I had on tan flat sandals and while the refinement level was wrong the flats were okay. The sweater will be great with these shoes, also camel boots, and possibly my tall boots too.

Bijou - I think the sweater will be useful. We often have casual meals with friends out at a local pub, or at home, or to the movies, or for work on occasions too... I could see the colour working on you too.

Jenn - yes it was meant to be, as I was wondering what to wear to the wedding in June - the bride and groom are my age, second time around, in a boutique hotel. And I can wear it out for other occasions too - while I do have a fair few occasion dresses they are all summery and this one is a bit more trans-seasonal.

Suz - yes I agree totally!! I used to do a lot more walking but now working from the office more (at the airport about 15 km away) and after school activities with my sons means more driving, and walking often from home then coming home and getting dressed for the day into different shoes. And I agree - these ëlevated"casual pieces are really handy for our lifestyles.

I understand your comment about beige fawn caramel and toffee. I have the same thing. I love toffee, but it is such a close run thing to fawn sometimes and then doesn't look so good on me.

Thanks Jane - that warmth in caramel makes it work on me - and probably you too. It is not easy to find though!! I hope you have similar luck when you end your break.

Lisa thanks- I was delighted. These are my back pair of glasses to protect my Raybans and Ralph Lauren ones - but I like the shape even though they are just cheapies. Lots of great frames around at the moment but it is still not always easy to get ones that fit well.

Angie-I think you have more influence than you realise!! Lucky you spread your powers for good!!

These are both awesome and I'm so happy for you that you found them, and my sales-loving self is very satisfied too! They both look wonderful. Great to have a trans-seasonal dress because our weather can be so variable. And I love the bit of sparkle in the jumper.
That's a good insight about a better eye after a fast.

Thank you Jenni - the weather surely is variable!! The dress is probably really a summer dress but I think it will work in all seasons too. I have a couple of smart coats or the right jacket for any outdoors photos or waiting around at the wedding!!

Haha Sterling - I don't wear a lot of lace or sparkles so I am pushing it a bit!!
