What do/don't you like about the silk dresses?

Hi girls,

I am a big lover of silk dresses. Are there more like me? What are your thoughts about the pros/cons of wearing silk dresses? I love its durability and comfort. Also, very rare to find with silk lining, but these bring amazing comfort!

One of the best qualities of silk is that it is a year round fabric. Breathability is another good quality. Also, the flowiness of silk and sheen is beautiful. On the negative side, silk is unforgiving of any lumpage or bumpage. I had good luck in the past finding silk dresses in higher end thrift and consignment stores, but It's now harder to do so.

I love silk, but agree that it can be unforgiving of my fluffy spots LOL. That said, I seek out the silk pieces in thrift shops because silk is one of my favorite fabrics. It can be very dressy, and it can also be a very luxurious fabric for lounging around on a lazy day.

And it IS a year round fabric. It breathes in summer, and makes a very good insulating base layer for winter.

I love silk. It seems to adjust to my temperature to e a great year round fabric and packs small for trips. I love the feel of silk against my skin and wash all my silk rather than dry clean.

I love a good silk jersey, which I find comfortable, skimming without clinging and durable. I like silk for not being too hot or too cold and have had luck washing in the silk cycle (Euro style washer and very hard water). It doesn't look plastic as some synthetics can.

What things are convincing/stopping you from buying expensive garments (like the ones who are made from silk) at the online stores?

I love silk dresses and buy them almost exclusively with the exception of a few cotton, linen, or merino wool dresses. High quality silk lasts and is easy to care for. My oldest silk dress is my favorite dress and is about 24 years old, and it still looks almost new. The color of a good silk stays true, bright and vibrant and it is comfy and breathable. I purchase expensive clothing so I am not one to ask about feeling limited. If my budget only allows for one or two garments, than I purchase fewer. I prefer well made garments from natural fabrics. Not all expensive garments are well made, and not all inexpensive garments are poor quality. I have found that I need to inspect each item separately to see how well it is made. Are the seams straight and well constructed. Is there a lining and what is it made from? What quality is the silk? Is it really silk or is it a polyester they call silk, or maybe a silk blend?

A pitfall of purchasing online is needing to return garments that do not fit and or are lacking in quality.
