What do you think to this? Rock vibes or just 90s?

I'm considering this. I think I want a kind of classy rock look overall as I seem to gravitate towards those things. I like things a little edgy and different. I also love classic looks but I just find they don't work for me very well. I look boring and sometimes frumpy.

I love this cardigan, especially in the red. I think you can rock an edgy classic look like nobody's business, N. I understand your sentiment about classic looks. Sometimes, I feel a bit matronly in them too. Too bad about the Chloe jacket.

I can very much relate about feeling less than fab and a bit frumpy if I go too classic.

That’s a very cool piece. I can see it working well with a dress since it’s so cropped. I’d have to think carefully about styling something this cropped, personally, but maybe it’s less of an issue for you since you are taller and slim with narrow hips. Is it something you can try, with a good return policy?

Great jacket , but maybe more runway than reality ? I say this because of the extreme level of texture and cropped- ness. Which I’m quite sure isn’t a word. Do you have places to wear such a piece ?

Cool piece but would be hard to style intentionally. There is a possibility it will look like something that shrunk in a wash if worn over longer top, imo.

I had some tops like this that I thought were really great, easy to wear. My only reservation is how much you’d want to wear a cropped topper. I am promising myself not to buy any more gilets, because the conditions are never right for wearing the ones i have.

Thanks everyone, I was thinking maybe wearing it open.

Now if I were to wear a vest top i'd only ever wear it with a topper, so even in summer. I also like to cover all my arms in summer even if its far too hot. Mostly because of the sun burning me. That said it is black and not the best colour for summer. I have this problem where I much much much prefer dark colours to light ones. Even in summer I'd prefer to wear black and navy. I'm really trying to get into white.

Anyway I was thinking something along these lines for styling.

Janet, i'd buy from netaporter that has free returns...or maybe see if it is stocked in Selfridges where i'd get both free delivery and free returns. So can try and send back easily.

I think it looks perfect for throwing on when you need to cover your arms. I wouldn’t want to stay in the sun a long time in the black, but I assume you’re moving in and out, not spending hours just standing there.

Your environment is so much dressier and fashiony than I’m used to! But I can see this working well for the slightly tougher throwback look you describe. I like your ideas of what to wear it with better than the site’s. A bolero is also classic with a more formal dress in the evening—I think you could wear this one that way too, and that you’ll be glad for the fun texture then.

It’s cute but I don’t see it as being very versatile. I can see it as styled, with a crop top, or over a dress/column of colour. Not so easy if your separates are different colours. If you plan to stick with all black or navy, it could work.

I'm going to think on it. Will probably buy those shoes this month to go along with the black skirt I just bought.

SF one mum was in her best pearls and like really formal dress on Friday at the school. A lot of others were more casual but people almost always look put together.

The rock idea is very cool! But personally I wouldn't buy a cardi THAT cropped. The "shrunk in the wash" feeling on me as a tall girl is real.

I like the rock vibe of the cardi but I would be hesitant on this piece for the same reasons explained byt Janet and Synne. I also had a look at the material and it's 95% polyester: is this OK for you? Personally, I doubt it would keep you warm and if you have fine hair I'd be even more hesitant, this type of knitwear would make my hair more flimsy than usual!

The shoes are very cool, a full-on rock vibe. I think the weather conditions are an important factor when choosing a topper. For me a cropped cardi in polyester will not get any wear. Polyester is too hot for summer evenings and as soon as the weather turns cooler there is a wind and backs need to be fully covered. I do live very close to the sea though. I also do not see it as a versatile piece as I think it will need careful styling, not a throw on and go piece, even if it implies this. It may become a closet orphan quite quickly.

I really like the cropped jacket you have picked. For me, cropped jackets are versatile and can be worn with skirts, dresses and jeans. This cropped jacket (which is more classic than the one you have picked) has been a wardrobe workhorse for me.

I realised its polyester. I prefer natural materials or at least recycled ones but I also thought if I stick to only natural materials (and vegan) I only have cotton and linen, hemp. It doesn't have much variety of texture.

That said, I have a uniqlo skirt in polyester and its the longest surviving thing in my closet. Probably the cheapest thing too. It sometimes makes me wonder how "sustainable" the more natural fibres are if they only last a year (admittedly with weekly use) whereas my poly skirt has lasted 7 years (and through 2 pregnancies). Of course I won't buy uniqlo because of their ethics but def can't fault them on their quality.

I think the majority are right though, it may not get used as much as I'm imagining it will. I'll think on it more! Thanks guys!

N, so true about poly lasting forever. It probably would be the most sustainable fabric if people kept their clothes until they wore out. You know not all polys are equal. I have some that are really cool in summer and others that keep me warm in winter - not sure why this is. One thing I have noticed though is they do get more 'stinky' than natural fibres. I wonder how easy it is to wash that in the machine. Poly is machine washable but those bobbly bits may not hold up well.

ETA - Just noticed care details are Dry Clean.

I love it! I think it would be a very versatile piece and would look amazing over a black tank with either white or black jeans, over a sleeveless midi dress, midi skirt etc. I’d also use it over an evening dress. I probably wouldn’t style it with shorts or a mini (cropped over cropped).
And Star is right - not all poly is created equal, so I’d say it’s definitely worth a try.

I think it looks pretty versatile, since it's black and the shape is pretty classic, but not sure I'd call it rocker per se. To me it's a transitional weather piece, definitely not summer!

I think if you love it, and have a way to wear it that suits you, as well as supporting pieces in your wardrobe that make wearable outfits for you, then why not?

Dry clean polyester? I had one of those ubiquitous pleated skirts in poly that said dry clean only on the tag, and the dry cleaner said they could not keep the pleats in. They were right. I would pass. Something in natural fibers will be better to care for.

I do like the material. Cropped tops and jackets never look good on me because I have a long torso and long arms. It makes me look awkward. However, that jacket would look awesome on petite ladies.

Very cool piece, good styling ideas, and I agree with others about the tall girl thing, as another tall. You are tall and long-waisted, I think? Maybe measure and see just where the length would hit you?
