What do you think of this dress?

I'd love to hear your opinions on this dress. I bought it last November for lounge/ very casual wear and am not sure how flattering it is.
Usually for hot summer wear I go for sack dresses; this, however has a different vibe. It is loose without being gathered around the torso and bust but only has a few inches ease in the thighs.
It was very cheap and has earned its CPW so be as frank as you like. As I prepare to spend a bit more on summer clothes next Australian summer I want to learn from this experience. Thanks!!

I like it a lot. I think the neckline in particular is very flattering on you. And it looks practical for the heat. You look lovely. What is your concern about it?

I like it on you, Anne. It's a lovely, cool dress for the summer heat.
I don't see any bagginess around the bust at all, and, from the front, the cut looks perfect. The only thing I notice - only from the side view - is that it catches a little over the hips.

I like this dress on you alot! It looks cool, comfortable and is classic. I see no bagginess. The neckline is very flattering on you.

I like this style on you very much. Taking in the bust doesn't look necessary but is an east thing to do under the arms with a sleeveless piece.

This is perfect. I like that it shows off your shoulder and legs, so although it is not figure -flattering in the traditional sense of highlighting your waist, it is still flattering.
I can't see any bagginess in the bust area.

I like it a lot. It's a great summer dress for those days when you can't be bothered to wear a lot. I see this as a cool option for lounging around the house, quick grocery runs with a cute necklace & sandals, and even perfect at the pool or kiddie park.

Since you are thin you definitely pull it off! It also looks just the right length - short enough to feel cool for when it's hot out, but still long enough to look modest.

It's cute and certainly wearable but I have some reservations about the bust area too. I think the shape is very flattering on you, especially the bared shoulders, but I think it would be even more flattering in a less flimsy material.

I agree with Isabel. It's a perfectly wearable dress--great neckline and the stripes elevate a comfy look to stylish. But I see what you mean about extra fabric in the bust (it looks like the darts sink in a bit in pic 2), and taking it in might not be worth the expense on an inexpensive item. Plus, if it's a thin enough fabric and the neckline means you can't wear a bra, taking it in may introduce other problems.

FAB dress, Anne. You wear it well. Get another in this style if you find it.

I don't really see the "bagginess" in the bust but if you do, then it may be worth finding a different version of the same basic style. Just keep looking and you will find.

I don't see bagginess in the bust. I am envious you can wear spaghetti straps like that. You have gorgeous shoulders!!!

If we ever went dress shopping together, I'd insist you try on all the dresses I can't wear, but wish I could.

Thanks all of you for your supportive messages. Sorry I've taken so long to get back - I couldn't log in for some reason this morning, so I could only read and not respond, and have been out for a wonderful hike in the hills with my family all day.

Manny has hit on the sort of things I wear this for - exactly that type of casual/ lounge wear.

Isabel, Aliona and Joy - this isn't worth bothering with alterations, - I'm glad you could see what I see about the bust!

I think what gives me pause is that this is a basically shaped dress - it has bust darts and a very slight waist - but I bought a larger size because I didn't want it to be fitted for hot weather. And because of my peariness it is much baggier in the top half than the bottom and thighs - Sterling I don't thing it was so much caught on my hips as just baggy there - because I have a low slung bottom and a bit of a swayback most styles are kind of baggy at the back there.

As I have written elsewhere, I'm getting sick of the bust revealing some of my other hot weather dresses, so the higher neckline was in response to that - thanks for all the feedback on thattoo

Looks good to me, but then I never have a problem with baggy I like that shape on your shoulder line.

My only concern is that the stripe looks a tad overwhelming on you. Might just be my screen and not a problem IRL, particularly if it's casual/lounge wear.

I think its a real workhorse. You could wear it with a blazer in winter...I dont know where in OZ you live but my sister wears blazers in Brisbane. Definitely keep it for next summer anyhow.

Hi Ann! This is a wonderful dress shape for you -- the neckline is great, and the fit skims the body and isn't oversized -- that in itself is hard to find, and makes a dress like this quite flattering.

Ideally, the knit would be a bit more structured, which would make for the best look over the bust, but it's a minor issue, really.

And I echo Sally - you could easily extend it's season by adding a topper! Also, I could see you in some silky (real silk or a blend) tops of this shape for wearing under jackets and sweaters to work, and topping, say, white crops for Summer.
