What do you think of these pieces for my winter wardrobe?

I am doing some "window" shopping/online browsing right now....

Here are some pieces I have seen that take my fancy. Any thoughts?

I am looking for something fun, but wearable for my life. I want the pieces to have some longevity, not be a one season wonder. And I am on a limited budget this year with my new additions in the areas of

- winter knits x 2
- winter trousers/pants x 1
- footwear 1-2
- fun addition 1
- dress 1

The jacket I would need to make a call on next week as it is from a range that often sells out within a day. I like the copper I think for me (or the gold?) This would be in the fun addition category but be great for dinner at friends, going to the films. It would work for much of the year in our climate. But is it too much?

My existing ankle boots are
- black flat moto (good for casual)
- black flat low heel (not in love with but okay for work)
- camel nubuck heeled (still good)

I have no brogues or loafers at all. I have one pair of leather sneakers, a couple of other flat covered to shoes and various heels.

The footwear needs to work with a new retro coat last year in a dark sea green/blue (will try and find a picture). It also needs to work with black:)

Not sure about the jacket - it would depend on how it feels for me.
I like the idea of a lighter boot - something to book-end with your hair?

I love the tan boots. Great bookending with your hair. Not sure about the bomber. You would know how much wear you would get.

I'm ambivalent about the bomber . It strikes me as very trendy - in other words not meeting your criteria for a long - lasting piece . I suppose the other side of the coin is that a bomber is a classic and not a trend - so ....
Re the shoes : I love them all ! No help from me there .

Thanks, I like both boots and the loafers. I see the boots as definitely meeting my criteria - not so sure on the loafers though with their lug sole. But they would be good for work, walking around town etc.

I believe the jacket is lined. I would need to try it on to see if it is flattering or not, and I do need to think if I really would wear it casually.

My 2 cents: The jacket is fun, but I would be concerned about longevity of that style. I love the boots. Black is practical but the taupe colour is more interesting (and could make for a lighter look with jeans). I am not wild about the white LUG sole on the loafers. The contrast bothers me.

I'll be honest. When I was reading the text of your post, I didn't think a copper or gold jacket would be too much. In fact, i was thinking it would be really interesting and serve you well. Then I saw the pictures. They are a bit loud. That is not a reason to not buy it if you really love it. It is a reason to pause and think about it before you purchase.

I must not like boots all that much because in my mind, the brogues or loafers were the most interesting choices. I would find it impossible to resist either. Unlike Brooklyn, I love the contrast of the lug sole. I wish I could found shoes like that in a wide width.

But I noticed many members suggested the tan boots. I see the point in bookending and adding interest to jeans. Are you limited to just one pair of new shoes? Your post suggests 1-2 shoes.

I love the bombers! What brand are they, Sally? I like the black and white brogues ( but will always go for monochrome) and prefer the black boots myself, but agree with others that the taupe ones would be great on you with your hair colour.

Hi Sally!

I love the idea of a standout bomber, but for me personally these are a little OTT glitzy in a way that screams "short lifespan!!!" But if they are inexpensive and you want it for fun for a single season or possibly two, then try it. I found the coppery one below at a very inexpensive Aus site (Fashion Lane?) that I personally prefer. I like the idea of a coppery/rose gold tone on you -- less contrast than silver, warmer, although it depends on what you are going for. Smooth satin is a standout but a more classic fabrication so I think it has the chance to look and feel relevant for longer. And, it's quite inexpensive. (My Zara satin-esque olive bomber was quite cheap and has been incredibly fun to wear and I believe I will hold onto it for a long time.)

I also attached a cute jacket I saw on the Zara site, in the pale blush family, that I could picture on you.

I love both booties, and the loafers over the brogues (IMHO).

The tan booties are definitely worth trying on -- I like the bookending possibilities, though they might be on the cool side for that -- you'll have to see. Also, see if they feel refined enough/ not too refined for the outfits you will want to create. I'd try them on with the coat -- the coat feels a bit more feminine and I'm not sure they'll work with it, somehow. They have a very slight "western" vibe that seems to conflict a bit with the coat to my imagination -- but you'd have to see them together to know for sure.

I have sugar eye for almost all spectator type shoes (black and white) but they do make a statement and you have to be comfortable with that. If my hair were your colour (as it used to be, LOL) I would possibly consider leopard print instead. Leopard is super versatile for dark blonde hair. How I love it. Let me count the ways. I still wear it, but not as easily or effectively, and I have to tell you it is the one thing I miss about not being blonde any more. Obviously, I had come to rely on it for pulling together a look more than I realized. I love it for footwear and for belts/ bags, and scarves etc. Not so much for clothing (for me).

My magpie gene kind of loves the jacket!! I think you'd need to try it on for sure. It is admittedly flashy but I don't mind that for the purpose you named. Having said that, I'd probably chicken out from buying it in the end....

I would worry about a shoulder strap purse damaging the bomber you show. The two Viva shows might be better able to last more than one season. With everyone else on the tan boots if they're the right shade in person.

I am often drawn to metallic jackets, more than metallic footwear, so I can see the appeal. These are pretty bright though and ic I wear adding s bomber to be versatile, I might look god one in satiny or pewter or bronzey solid.
I like the shoes.
Why do folks think the very light tan boots bookend your hair?

Thanks all, I appreciate the wide ranging input.....

I did think last night that I do have a sequin cardigan that I rarely wear so probably the bomber would fall into the same category. So I think whilst a fun piece it might not be the addition I really need right now. I suspect it would be close to $200NZ. It is pretty full on, and maybe a bit too much so.

Viva - I will check out the one you linked to, light weight jackets are super useful for me from October-April, and the right one for evenings all year.

I am going to see my friend who is a designer next week so she has often some real statement pieces and I may be able to get something that fits the fun wildcard item to liven up a winter closet!!

JenniNZ - the bomber is Augustine International, they also have Charlo (more casual) and Stella Royal (size 14 up). All very popular with my sisters and friends although I only have one item (Charlo shorts).

The shoes are all Merchant/Overland which has three local stores so I can readily try them on. I want some new ankle boots and ideally some new non boots flats too. The white lug sole has been growing on me as an option and I am okay with a real statement shoe (in winter I am often wearing jeans, simple knit tops) and find footwear with some black, but not all black, a really useful look to tie my outfits together.

But I do have to consider the budget... We are investing into our business at the moment, I have sons at expensive ages, and I need to be prudent. But new footwear really provides the trendy update for me..

I think the boots would sort of match my hair, I do have camel nubuck boots already but with a higher heel which I don't wear in the rain or on the grass so this pair look a bit more sturdy (I have a son that plays rugby an awful lot in winter so I can be walking across fields 4 days a week. While I often wear rainboots or old sneakers, sometimes I come from work).

I will keep you posted on final decisions or trying out the footwear!

Thanks for the brand info. I read about the designer for Augustine and Stella Royal in a fashion mag, she sounds fun and loves colour which warms my heart. I thought the shoes looked like Merchant/Overland, I have 5 pairs of theirs, always last well. When my son played soccer( he is 20 now and stopped when he left high school) I bought some bright gumboots with pohutukawa flowers on by a brand called Gummies. I was trying to up the fashion flair on the sidelines! Sadly the bright colours faded.
I have to say I bought a bit of a statement bomber at the Designer Garage Sale at NZ Fashion Week last August and have only worn it twice in 7 months ... The mixture of casual style and statement gold/black seems to have hardly appealed IRL so I'm glad I got it on massive discount at only $ 40. It is hard eh when you want something fun but also trying to be sensible!

ETA, I am going to a dinner at the home of another of husband's work colleagues tonight, I've decided to give my black and gold bomber another whirl with statement loafers that have gold on, and my dark straight jeans. Thanks for the idea!
