What do you think of the colors of this messenger bag?

This morning was one of THOSE mornings. The bus going up the hill to work was overfull. So I had to disembark and walk up the hill. About a block from the hospital the strap broke on my messenger bag. So I need a new commuting bag.
What do you think of the blue and grey color version?

I like them both. The second one looks larger so do you have a preference as to size?

For me, I would go with the reflective version. For you, I say to coordinate color-wise with the one that works better with your commuter outerwear. Otherwise it's probably a toss-up since they are both essentially gear and the functionality is usually the most critical element with gear.

So the blue and gray is lovely, but just wanted to throw out there (this may or may not be helpful) if you go to Timbuk2's website you can have a bag custom made in any color combos you choose... thread colors, features, the whole nine yards, and the cost isnt really that different (maybe $30 or so)

ETA: we now have 5 of the Timbuk2 bags, sizes XS, SM. M, and XL messengers and the wingman suitcase in our household and are quite pleased with the quality and features.

ETA2: Chrome also makes messengers which I think might be more in line with your style if you are looking for something that "fits" with your WIW outfits.

Strap cannot be repaired which kills me because my existing bag is from Pendleton with an awesome pattern. REI used to sell bag straps, maybe they still do.
I know this is gear, but I haul lunch, drink, stainless steel coffee mug, book, umbrella, phone, wallet, call paperwork and sometimes pager. Basically a lot of stuff, and it needs to be durable for the bus. I wear street clothes when commuting, but I don't care what I look like for the most part.
I know I can do custom coloring if I special order, but I need a bag tonight, unless I carrying my stuff tomorrow in a plastic grocery bag. Maybe they'll have more colors in store.

I like the blue-grey, but just wanted to throw in a word of warning about Timbuk2 bags... I found them to be very uncomfortable and never use mine, because they are so wide and the strap is so wide-set that they don't sit right against my narrowish back unless it's the very small one, in which case you might as well just use a real purse. I think you are around my size so you might have the same issue. Timbuk2 bags seem to be more "man-sized" to me. My fiance loves them but he is a lot bigger than I am with a much wider back.

Seconding what Diana said, most of these bags dont fit like a cross body purse really and wont be comfortable if carried that way, typically they are meant to be donned then you snug the quick release strap up until they sit in the small of your back.

i am quite broad in the shoulder and back... so perhaps this accounts for my happiness with the style.

I called a luggage store downtown and they sell shoulder straps. If I can get off work early I'll check it out. Fingers crossed.

Another thought if you want to go replacement route is auto ulpohlstry shop, they could sew on a length of car seatbelt to replace strap.

Love the replacement strap idea much better. It makes me sad to think of a Pendleton biting the dust. Many shoe repair places around here also do bag repair, so check that out, too, if the luggage store doesn't work.

It was the plastic doo-hickey swivel part of the strap attachment that broke. Mind you I've lugged this thing around for 2-3 years, so it's held up well considering. The fabric of the bag itself has held up well.

if the bag and sewn D ring or whatever attachment are in good shape the replacement strap sounds like the way to go! I hope they have one that works!
