What do you find you duplicate in your closet?

Here are the things duplicated in my closet. What about you?

- Unders; if a bra or panties look and feel great, then I'm stocking up - as for socks, let's face it, they go wandering and it's better to have a spare set of the same kind, so when you lose one of each, at least you still have a set.

- Gloves; for the same reason as socks

- Sportsgear; I really don't care if all three pairs of my running or yoga pants or sports bras are the same. I don't even care if they match. I don't work out to look good working out; I work out to look good afterwards!

- Jeans; If I find the perfect pair, which I have done maybe a handful of times in life, I get two. Sometimes I get one in dark wash and one in lighter wash. Sometimes I get one to hem for flats and one for heels. Either way, I've found that I do wear them, so this works for me.

- White tanks; they have a distinct half-life! A tank can go from fresh and pretty to stained and stretched within a month of summer wear no matter how much you spot-treat it before washing. So when I find one I like at the right price, I buy multiples so I can chuck the nasties as I go.

- The perfect cardigan sweater; Well, within reason. I have two of the best, best, best long cashmere cardigan sweaters. The gray one is for everyday, the black is for dress-up, and I am happy. And if I found a third in navy at the right price, I would have to think really hard about it and have a painful self-confrontation. Probably best not to look.

- The perfect jeans jacket; Okay, I am abashed about this. I have three (down from five) different versions of a jeans jacket I saw Natalie Portman wear once in Vogue in the 90s. Man I fell hard for that jacket. It's the Helmut Lang one with the long turn-up cuffs. I now have it in dark blue (2 of them, one tight and faded, one dark), in black, and I used to have it in white and gray. Some fools were selling them on ebay for *nothing* over the years, and I just had to have them. I'm prying my fingers off the colors I don't wear, though, slowly... I promise. And I might even consider surplusing the HL one I have *without* cuffs, too. Maybe.

Any other sinners out there?

Me too for the basics - once you find the perfect bra, undies, and hosiery (for me, patterned tights more so than socks), why mess with a good thing? At my most recent bra fittings I've identified 2 favorites, bought 1 at retail price, and then stalked them online for the rest of the year so I could buy them on sale. I mostly use camisoles as under-layers and I duplicate in different colors. I do the same thing for exercise shorts - I find one pair that I love and seek out sales for added pairs.

I definitely buy multiples in jeans if I find my One True Pair, and I'm absolutely a guilty Halogen seamed pencil skirt duplicator (or quadruplicator, in my case.)

Once I duplicated a pair of black ballet flats when I started wearing them out and there was a nearly identical pair available in stores. I "demoted" the first pair to casual activities only as they got shabby, and was glad to have a backup pair. I also have two pairs of the same shoes in different colors: Clarks booties and plum and black, 3" heels in gray matte and red patent; nude and black peeptoe pumps.

Anything I find myself wanting to wear every day:

- most comfy shoes/boots
- jeans
- under-stuff
- tights
- I even have three VERY similar jackets in different colors (red, citron, black)

If you mean literally purchasing multiples of the same item, then for me it's very little besides undergarments/camisoles! My only multiples: basic ribbed tank (one tomato red, one dark turquoise); plain layering tank (one black, one white); 3/4 sleeve cardigan (one tomato red, one brown); JS "Brenda" pump (one red, one brown patent). I would consider my wardrobe medium sized.

EDIT: I've also duplicated one or two scarves!

Guilty!!!

If I find something I really like and I wear almost daily, I duplicate or triplicate or more even. So far:

- vintage Coach Whitney bag in red and now navy too

- same pair of ballet flats from Locale (Canadian shoe store) in black, blue and taupe
- 6 tanks from Abercrombie and Fitch in different colors -- I like how the straps of the tank follow along your bra straps so no need for racerback bras
- several 3/4-sleeve tees and tops in more than one color -- sometimes if I find them at a great price, I will buy the same color twice and leave one for later when the first gets worn out (I wear them that often)
- cardigans -- usually I get at least 2 of one style in different colors
- jeans (currently have 2 of the same style, still looking for the ideal pair though)
- pants -- I find pant shopping tricky so if I find something, I buy at least 2 colors
- unders -- I stick to what works and buy repeats
- an a-line skirt (Eddie Bauer) that I have in black and brown. I also have a very similar one in grey (Tahari)
- Verve Leda climbing pants in black and navy -- they fit me better than yoga pants I've tried (used to rock climb a lot before)
- Gear tops and bottoms -- I usually buy at least 2 of ones I really like
- gloves and socks -- for the reasons you mentioned

I was just thinking that I need 2 of the same gap jeggings because I wear them so much. I may get the same identical pair for winter.

Hmmmm . . . I really can't think of any duplicates, except things like underwear, bras and camis - and one pair of Paige denim jeans that I absolutely LOVE and when they went on sale, I bought another pair! The only other thing that I get close to duplicating are shoes - I don't buy the exact same shoe, but I tend to duplicate shoes that are similar in function!

Yes, just today I've duplicated my black Karen Kane shorts when i found a pair in my size on sale. I've worn them more than once a week all summer.
I have exact duplicates of underwear...Soma undies because they are perfect and bras because there isn't much choice in my size.
I've gone through 2 pair and am on the third of the same Dr. Scholls pewter flats...so comfortable yet rather cute and go with everything.
I plan to duplicate my BR Martin skinny black pants but want to try some other skinny black pants that YLF members have mentioned first.

Any blouse that is short enough to wear with a skirt I get one in every color. I have a very short upper torso. (short waist?). Jeans and comfortable flats.

You mean the five black short-sleeved BR tee shirts I have? Can't bear to toss a single one. In winter I wear them under wool sweaters. Summer I toss one on to go get the newspaper from the driveway. Do I need five? No, but can't part with a single one.

--nude shoes (1 patent kitten heel, 1 patent platform pump)

--LBD (1 jersey 3/4 sleeve, 1 jersey sleeveless, 1 stretch sleeveless sheath, 1 fancy cocktail dress, 1 easy/breezy empire for weekends/beach)

--wedge sandals (1 nude, 1 white, 1 bronze, 1 flat)

--knee length jersey dresses, period.

v neck, bateau neck, surplice neck, jewel neck

over the years i have shifted from bohemian/artsy to modern classic/artsy/trendy.
i have hopes to start a family within a few years, and want to have practical, pretty classics on stand by when i'll have less to spend on myself, but still look easily put together (shout out to all you SAHM's!)...well, that is the goal, who knows what will happen, hahaha.

oops, i forgot the cold weather workhorses:

--TIGHTS
solid, patterned

--3/4 length, single breasted coats (1 pewter rain trench, 1 white/black wool check, 1 red wool, 1 camel wool)

--boots (1 black flat, 1 black mini wedge, 1 black heel, 1 dark brown heel, 1 cognac heel)

--scarves!!!

gosh, it sounds like i have TONS of stuff but really, this is a SLOW accumulation of many hours scouring thrift stores, target, saving gift cards and stalking online deals...over the last 3 YEARS since i 'met' angie and all of you ladies.

i basically collected ALL of angie's seasonal 'must-have' lists, circled the ones that appeared EVERY season / year, and went to work.

yep, the planning side has taken over. my fiance will never let me live it down

I surely duplicate some of my favourite underwear or tops (but possibly in different colours).
BUT, I'm more guilty of multiplicating my LOOKs(the way I put together an outfit) over and over as years go by...
How weird is that?:-)

I duplicate in different colors, and like Taylor, it can be pretty much anything!

Heck, I duplicated a set of metallic stretchy bracelets from Piperlime this summer; one in burnished gold, the other in silver. And i wear the daylights out of each!

Like Kristen, I tend to duplicate in different colors. My wardrobe tends to fall into two primary categories - work wear and workout wear. Therefore, I have multiples of

- Bras/panties/unders/socks

- Workout bras, workout shoes, and workout tops

- Athletic shoes

- Pants (I am extremely ticky about how my pants fit, so if I ifnd a brand that I adore, I tend to buy them in every color available).

- Knit tops ( I use my knit tops to layer under suit jackets for work, as tops for casual wear, and in a pinch can wear them to gym, so I tend to have the same style in at least 2 or 3 colors).

I have:
- 2 pairs of Karen Millen jeans (one dark blue wash and one black), the fit is fab!
- Yoga pants.
- 2 Massimo Dutti button down shirts ( a white and a navy)
- 2 Zara cardigans (black and navy)

Team Taylor. I'll duplicate almost anything.

As I posted recently elsewhere, lately I have been collecting the Halogen pencil skirt in, uh, several colors. When the turquoise and red ones arrive I think I'll be up to 6. And the coordinating cardi in three colors.

Frye Rory boots in red, sand, and black. Madden Girl patent leather pumps in 7 colors, Jessica Simpson Oscar pumps in 3 colors.

Same skinny jeans in two washes -- dark blue and black.

The same bra in 7 colors, and the same two sports bras in multiples of black and white.

Old Navy long sleeve layering tees in at least 5 or 6 colors.

Halogen Taylor pants in 2 colors.

All my workout socks are the same.

All my panties are the same.

All my manyt workout bottoms are duplicates of the same 4 styles.

And I, uh, could go on...
