What do you do about jeans that get stretched out?

I'm trying to update my wardrobe and found some Levi's that don't gap in the back like so many jeans do on me. I was excited about having a pair of dark wash jeans, finally, and they fit like a glove. That is, until I wore them for a few hours. Now they're baggy and not as fashionable.

They're 1% elastane and 99% cotton. Should I try washing them on hot and putting them in a hot dryer? Or would that wreck them/shorten them? In the future should I buy down a size, to something that's uncomfortably tight at first?

Don't wash hot and dry them, that will kill the elastic. I tend to buy my jeans very tight.

Hang them upside down (from the hem of the legs). Place in steamy bathroom while the shower is on. Afterwards, let hang for at least a couple of hours, if not overnight. Hope it helps!

If they are only baggie in the waist, and even a little in the butt, go have them taken in at the tailor while they are stretched out. Then they will be tight when you first put them on, but then stretch out nicely. I always buy my jeans as tight as I can, as long as they are not unflattering. They will all stretch a little.

My Levi's stretch out terribly too. I have to buy them too tight so they will fit. I tried having one pair taken up but I wouldn't spend the money again.

I just had this happen with a pair of Gap jeans--I returned them and switched for a smaller size.

I take them to the tailor and get them taken in a bit.

Arghh. I've had this happen so many times! Very frustrating. Like others have advised, maybe buy them a little on the tight side in the future. As for the ones that are already stretched, you can have them tailored after you've worn them. That way you'll get a better fit.

Or you can save them for days when you feel "fat"...but maybe you're one of those lucky people who doesn't have those days!

I buy them so tight I almost need a clothes hanger to get them on ...

Mine always tend to bag out around the knees, which is hard - I can buy the jeans tight in the rear & waist, but they will still sometimes sag at the knee. And other times I buy the jeans tight and they *don't* relax very much, or are very hard to get on/zip up after a wash. Very frustrating. (No, I don't put my jeans in the dryer.)

Levi's always do this,.... I never buy Levi's anymore.
I wear new jeans with the tags on for half the day. If they bag out, I take them back to the store.

I think I'll look for some jeans that are more of a mix of fabrics. This pair is 74% cotton, 24% polyester & 2% spandex:

Yep, I size down too. It's so frustrating, isn't it?

I have a pair of JCrew jeans that stretch unlike any other jeans I've ever had. I ended up relegating them to barn jeans, but even after a day of wear, they're hanging off my hips. Grr.

I can't say I really have this problem. I have Levi's, Miss Me, True Religion, Taverniti, J Brand. Oh, wait, my Lucky jeans tend to stretch out. Hmm, maybe I just got lucky with most my pairs!

Stretched out jeans are a style killer!

I always buy my jeans SNUG and look for 2% spandex. I find this blend is very effective at preventing the dreaded saggy-butt, sprung-out knees syndrome.

I think it has more to do with the fabric quality than the content (although the polyester will certainly help)
I have Levi's and J brand that have the same spandex content (I think 2%) and the levis' bag and the J Brand don't.
