I'd look like a house in it. So I'd say it's very dependent on 1) body type, and 2) the volume and length of each specific piece and whether they play together well.

Like Janet said, she's teeny-tiny. And the skirt is short, so the volume isn't overwhelming. This nicely illustrates that you can break the rules if you do it right. This is very hard to do right, and I don't think most of us could pull it off.

Oh, that is cute. I agree that the wearer's general tiny-and-adorable-ness help her pull it off, but I think it could work if the skirt and peplum are of very similar fullness and the peplum is located wherever waist definition is most flattering. That way the effect is that of a fit-and-flare dress that just happens to be two pieces. Maybe?

In theory it works and it does look very pretty on her. In real life, there's probably about 1% of the female population who could pull this off.

That's really cute, a challenge to pull off (size and body type is a huge factor with so much volume going on) but a fun look.

I actually saw a similar silhouette on a more average sized blogger and loved it. I think it depends on the specific pieces. I also find the all black to be much less froufrou. If it appeals to you, try it!

She does this look quite a bit and it works on her tiny frame. I think this does work but body shape has a bit to do with how well it works. Also fabric. Both pieces are quite structured and the fabric looks quite substantial, holding its shape well. For my body type, I would be more conventional on wear the peplum with a knee length or midi pencil skirt. I don't think the full skirt would be as flattering on my fuller hips.

This look works well when you have a very slim torso. This could be a great outfit for pears with long, slim torso.

hmm, , I think the link to Oxigen shows that it also worked for an hourglass. I was trying to imagine it over my hips, but that is the magic of short skirts. They let little pin legs stick out which creates the illusion of slenderness, and the peplum does the same for the waist. I think the AP picture is turned into hourglass by the outfit, but she is otherwise very slender and not so curvy. I would try it!
