What do we think of red skinnies/pants/jeans?

I've been looking for a pair of colored casual pants/jeans for a while, particularly with spring and summer in mind. Today I found a nice fitting pair of red skinnies on sale, but I admit they are a wee bit out of my comfort zone as I normally wear straight jeans only, and these are on the tight side, at least until I break them in. I do like them anyway! I'll update with photos when I have more light and time tomorrow.

However - I'm very interested in your general thoughts on bright colored jeans and pants, in regard of fit, age, styling etc. What do we think?

Oh yes, I am all for the colored skinnies and I feel red is one of the classic colors. Also cobalt blue seems to return again and again. I was looking at Elle today from 2011 and the trend was maybe just starting then, but it is sure going strong....I am so tempted by lime green ones myself! And I already have cobalt that I wear with a pink blazer in winter for a bright impression!

Love, love, love them. I have one pair. I am looking for a second pair in a deeper red (less orange) and longer length (not ankle). LOVE THEM.

Well...I say that, but I don't actually own a pair.

I would like to, however. Just haven't found the right ones. I say if the fit is good and the colour works with your wardrobe, they are a fab option at any age.

I like them in theory and on other people when not too tight, but the reality is I've yet to find a pair that doesn't make me look/feel like a sausage. I don't find tight colored denim to be particularly forgiving. I might try slouchy slim khakis (in a color) a la the Gap, though.

Love! The first pair of colored jeans I bought were red. And I was over 40 at the time of purchase
Come to think of it, my first colored pants were also red - velvet Editor trousers - in my mid 30's. Love them, too!

I'm a fan. As seen on Mo, changing the color of pants from blue to red gives a simple combo like a t-shirt-and-jeans some oomph. T-shirt (plain) + red skinnies + scarf is easy, or even patterned T or chambray + red skinnies (still easy).

Plus, it makes me happy to wear red skinnies. I have the 'pop color' skinnies from BR, which are not too thin (though I'd love a bit more stretch). I like them best with sandals or low boots.

Jayne, I think you're right. I find red a classic color, too, and the cobalt blue is also a stayer.

Mary, I hope you find a pair for you! I have a pair of cropped red pants from last year, and I wanted full length, true red and better fit. These boxes are all ticked now

Suz, the fit is crucial, of course. Skinny jeans are always tricky for me because I tend to get that terrible muffin top in them. But there are ways around that, of course. I hope you find some you like!

Anne, this is true. Too tight, whatever color, is never good, but I agree that it is even worse in a bright color.

ClaraT, This is so true. A simple casual outfit gets more punch with color. One of my style goals is to add more color to my wardrobe, but I still want classic, versatile pieces. Red skinnies should qualify.

I think YLF in general has a lot of love for red skinnies, and I do think that they are completely age appropriate. If you decide to go for it you'll find lots of styling tips and photos posted here.

FWIW, I bought a pair of straight-leg coral/red pants last spring but didn't wear them much. I am color-phobic, though, so that's probably why! It takes me a while to inch out of my comfort zone.

I think red jeans are very fun, and I'd like to own a pair too. They look so versatile, I'd say get them and give them a try!

I find them really fun. They also force you out of a style formula, if that makes sense. You can't just pull out some neutral--you have to be creative with colors, and bold. Or not, if you choose not to. But it's a fun look.

I've hit a bit of a rough patch in life and decided to buy myself some screaming colored clothes to cheer myself up.

I got three pairs. Cobalt blue, cherry red and brick red. They have a slight slouch to them and a bit of a scrunch at the ankle and I LOVE THEM and they make me very happy. I am 55 years old and short and on the chubby side and these make me feel just great.

Red is a neutral. I looked for months trying to find some that are full length, not ankle, and more straight than skinny. I ended up with a pair of NYDJ at the Rack. They have a lower rise than other jeans of that brand that I've tried. So, as an over 65er, I'm enjoying red jeans. I wear jeans at least part of every day so it's fun to have a change.

I have a red pair of skinnies -- Love them. They can be a bit attention getting (not in a good way). I have tempered the color with an ice blue button-down in the past (the hem hit me at the hip) and felt that took the edge off skinny red jeans.

I am also looking for a nice red pair twill trousers for spring. I think they would look gorgeous with sweater sets and button-down shirts.

I love them. I want some. I tried earlier this year and the closest I could find were some orangy red cords... way out of my comfort zone, but I went for it anyway. Pure red jeans are still on my list!

I have a pair of red denim flares from last year that I'm hoping to replace with a pair of skinnies from BR this year that happen to come in long enough lengths! I was unable to find the perfect pair last year and settled with a pair from F21 which was fine for an experiment, but now I'm ready to commit. I think red is pretty safe and easy to work with. I have a pair of cobalt and love that color as well. But that will be the extent of colored denim for me.

Red is, to me, the classic color for colored denim. I haven't found a pair yet, but I keep looking! My issue is that most brands seem to use stretchier denim in their plain skinnies, and something stiff in colors. I also want emerald green - those are everywhere now!

Red anything is great. I have some brick red jeans and some deep pink skinnies, and some coral red cropped jeans. Love them with blue, black, neutrals, prints, on and on.... Only thing better is red patent shoes!

I love red and I don't think there is an age limit on wearing red skinnies. For me, I have found my experiments with bright jeans have ended with closet orphans (I was enamored with green for about two wears). But I love seeing them on others.
