What do I wear to a personal trainer interview?

Hey Gals,

I'm 'interviewing' this afternoon for a position as a personal trainer. It's a very informal interview- they recruited me and have pretty much already offered me the job. I'm going to the fitness center to tour the facility and learn about the business philosophy.

I've been in the fitness industry for years, and from experience I know showing up in a suit/separates for something like this would be totally inappropriate. Never have I seen anyone show up for a tour/interview in anything other than gear- but I don't want to show up in gear. Nor do I want to wear something frilly, like a dress. The gal I'm interviewing with will be wearing workout clothes. What should I wear?

So far, I'm thinking dark wash-denim, a knit top & cute jacket& ballet flats. It's about 75 and rainy here today.

Hi NCYogini! Congratulations on the personal trainer job. It is exciting.

I used to work as a fitness trainer until 6-7 years ago. Hard job, but I had loads of fun. I used to wear slim-fit jersey knit cargo pants for group meetings, etc back then. It would also be an option instead of jeans.

I also liked your suggestion. I think a good top that displays your fit shape would be a good choice. It doesn't have to show skin, just your shape...

Congrats on the new job! I also like your suggestion for the outfit. If you wanted to still be smart but have a casual element in your outfit, you could add Converse instead.
