WHAT DO I WEAR?!?!?! - YouLookFab Forum

Hey guys! So, I just started at a new school. (public high school) First day i walked in, i was wearing white skinny jeans, black high top converse, and a black tube top with some chunky necklaces and bracelets. I've always prided myself in my nose piercing and navy blue hair. I was feeling happy and confident until I walked into my English class. OH MY GOD! Sitting right next to my seat was the most beautiful guy I've ever seen. 0_0.....Small problem, he was blond and tan and gorgeous and I seriously doubt that he'd ever be interested in someone with my style. I've been in that school for about a week and we've talked quite a bit every day. He's even made a few suggestive comments to me... (YAS!!!! SCORE!!!!!!!) Unfortunatly, he was only making those comments in a joking manner.... So, I've decided to take the leap of faith.... I'm going to ask him to MORP....(that's prom for 9th and 10th graders in which the girls invite the guys) Morp is in about one month. I just don't know what to wear when I ask him.... It has to be perfect though cuz that'll be the moment in which he actually looks at me and considers any romantic connection. I know, I know, be yourself and don't change anything..... But I don't exactly wanna frighten him away with all my chains and spikes... I will post some pics of an outfit I have in mind.... If you don't agree, the what do I wear?!?!?!?!

I suspect that if he likes you for who you are, then he'll be okay with whatever you might be wearing and just be thrilled you asked. I like your choices and especially love the kitty socks/stockings because they show a fun side of you. They say 'this is a person I'd like to get to know' to me. Love the combat boots, they'll be a good counterpoint to the socks. Good luck!

Just wanted to add that I've been thinking about individual style a lot lately and how I want my clothes to say to people the sort of things I want them to know about me. Whether I like it or not, people jump to conclusions about me based on what I'm wearing. You said it yourself when you wrote that 'I seriously doubt that he'd ever be interested in someone with my style'. I guess that means that we all have to choose if the message we're sending is the one that we most want to send. For example, if I wear frumpy stuff to a job interview, it might make it harder/impossible to get the job even if I'd be great at it. So it's perfectly okay to modify a clothing message to fit a situation if that makes sense to you at the time. You don't have to feel that it's compromising your personal style because you're really only adjusting to suit the occasion, and we all do that.

First off I want to say I love your style! Second, I completely understand the power of that moment. When I met my now-husband the first time, he later said that one of the first things he noticed was the button pins on my hoodie
I do think it's important that whatever you wear is something that feels natural to you, because that is what you'll feel the most confident in. If you are too conservative, you might find yourself wondering later if his response, whether yes or no, was because of that. On the other hand, you don't want to feel like you're trying to hard and be self conscious.

I think this outfit is perfect. The tights are feminine and cute, the vest is sassy. I love combat boots with anything!!

Have you thought about accessories yet, hair and makeup?
