What colour is your bedroom?

Time to tackle the bedroom in our new-to-us home!

I loved my previous bedrooms - the first a pale pinky beige the painter dubbed 'bandaid' with a custom duvet cover in dirty pastels, the second a pale sage with a cream, sage, and pale blue duvet cover.

I'm thinking of either pale grey-blue or cream walls. The current colour is called 'Willow' (the only can of paint the previous owners left behind).

What colours have you liked in your bedroom decor? What was successful, and why? Do you do a bedspread or duvet? Shams and decorative pillows?

Any and all information, advice, etc. welcomed!

My current decor is my favourite of all I've done in this bedroom - over 20 years. It's two shades of dusky grey/blue: one quite dark and the other lighter. The ceiling is white. The wall are curved into the ceiling and there is a cove ceiling. This has been the best colour and depth choice - I find it very calming, quiet and sophisticated, if that makes any sense. Plus, it supports pretty much any accent colour I add in (turquoise lamps in summer and a pale blue quilt) . We had all white on walls and ceiling for a few years, and it was just too bright and cheery. The room gets a lot of daylight, especially in the summer,so having it white wasn't really necessary . I didn't feel it had any personality , either . I switch out bedding every few years - and also every season. Right now it's a white/blue/grey/mustard paisley duvet cover with different textures in extra pillows (a faux fur, a chenille, and two different but coordinating patterns with the duvet). I use a faux fur throw in top in the winter for extra warmth. My husband and I fortunately share a decor aesthetic, and tend towards more masculine and quiet colour combinations.

My bedroom is a light sage green, very peaceful and goes well with a deep red paisley duvet on the bed and dark cherrywood furniture. DH is not a fan of decorative bed cushions, so I use pillowcases that mix/blend with the bed cover, 4 pillows stacked.
Our summer lighter weight bed cover Is more of an orange print but still looks good with the green. We have two long ceiling to floor windows with honeycomb blinds softened with ivory sheers.
Color is a very personal thing, as is style. Think of what is relaxing for you.

Blue is my happy color, so that's what I went with. I feel "aaaah" as soon as I walk in. The trim is eggshell. I have some Persian rugs in there that have the same color blue in them, along with rose tones. It's a very relaxing vibe, and it never takes us long to fall asleep!

My room is an apple green, cream trim. I chose it 20 years ago (!) I'd maybe go softer now, but I still dig it.

Our bedroom walls are blue (visible in my WIW photos). It's a bit more vibrant than what I would prefer, but repainting is a chore I'm waiting to tackle until we redo our master bath. I love the color, I would just like a more muted version of it. To counter the brightness, everything else in the room is neutral -- warm wood tones with cream, grey, and white.

When we redo the bath, I'm having better lighting installed in the bedroom (currently just can lights in the high vaulted ceilings), and the new paint job will include painting the white door and window trim to match the walls for a cleaner look.

We like the calming effect of watery blues in a bedroom, but we like the warm neutrals to take any icy edge away.

Our bedroom is neutral - offwhite with wood floors. Theoretically, then, the bedding would provide interest and color. We have a spectacular hand woven wool coverlet, for example. But we don't use it. Instead, our bed is covered with a washable fleece blanket. Why? Because one of our dogs sleeps on the bed!

My bedroom is a light gray-blue called Bouyant Blue, with a light gray ceiling. Wood floor, neutral drapes and rug with a pop of coral in the bed curtains. I love it!

My bedroom walls are forest green, and my furniture is dark wood. All of the woodwork in the room is painted white, and so is the ceiling, as it is throughout the house. The floors are warm beige porcelain tile, and my bedspread is solid white matilisse (spelling?) on a large King-sized 4-poster bed. The bedroom has lots of windows and overlooks a lake, so I have seaside paintings, a collection of blown glass fish, etc. Very nice and soothing, in my opinion.

Dove grey beadboard to right above the headboard of the dark bronze metal bed, then white. I wish the white were a little warmer toned. We have a Pendleton blanket that we use as a spread, white pillowcases with coordinating cuffs that I make up. In the winter we use a denim quilt I made instead, with red pillowcases for the holidays, a little warmer feel for short days and cold winter light. It's simple and calming, and even inspires me to make the bed most days.

My bedroom (and the whole house) is a really great purplish grey, or a greyish purple. I was thrilled to find a rental with a good color on the walls. It does rather limit what colors I can decorate with, though.

In general I actually prefer pure cool white (eg Gallery White) rather than color for this sort of house (great 'bones', soaring Edwardian ceilings, wood floors) because the house can support it and it makes a lovely backdrop for my modern furniture.

Our bedroom is a grayish green and cream. We have an open concept house so the third floor is a loft and that is our bedroom. It is open to the second/main level. There are windows all around and trees so the green works well. Our bathroom is brown. Our duvet is black. Left over from a previous decorating scheme but I haven't found anything better.
I choose this colour because it worked well for the whole house. Two colours are max with an open concept. Otherwise it gets busy. IMHO.

Cream walls (actually the palest orange imaginable); duvet and shams in a small geometric pattern of grays and creams. I think the only thing that makes the room work is a vintage rug in cream, orange, deep blue, and gray.

Once upon a time, I had bedroom windows looking east over Lake Michigan about 20 yards from the beach. The walls were a true pale gray, trim white, and floor and furniture pale natural wood. I used white linens and hung black and white photos. The light changed moment by moment, especially in the winter, and the color of a single flower --usually whatever the grocery had-- was almost too much to bear. Definitely my favorite bedroom.

My bedroom walls and ceiling are off white. My duvet cover is white and so are my bed skirt and all of the pillows. The windows have off white wood blinds. When I moved into this apartment I did as much white as possible and two years later I think it is perfect.

My bedroom is painted a color called Tony Taupe with a lighter ceiling. The drapes, leather headboard, and bedding are gray and the furniture is black. The carpet is beige and the accent colors are yellow and teal. It looks beautiful and so different than I had before.

Mine is a Benjamin Moore colour, think it's called robins egg, not as vibrant as a real one. I have beige, cream and chocolate accents with cream duvet in winter and turquoise in the summer with a brown coverlet

I've lived in 3 houses in 10 yrs and keep painting the bedroom the same colour, I like it so much

Years ago, we had the smallest bedroom in the house - just big enough for walking space around the king sized bed - and I had the walls and ceilings all painted a very dark eggplant purple color. All of the trim/window blinds and bedding we're white with just a few throw pillows that incorporated the wall color, it was the most soothing space. Eventually we moved our bedroom to a slightly larger one (though not very big) and it is painted a neutral oatmeal color. The duvet color is a slightly lighter version of the wall color and the bed frame is black. Accent colors are smoky blue, green and grey. My favorite part is the bamboo rug on the wall behind the bed and I just re-upholstered the chair in animal print. Overall my bedroom is quite neutral, but full of textures.

I am looking at repainting our bedroom. "Revere pewter" which is a lightish greige that we have throughout our home. I also use a lot of gray-blue, its so soothing. Have fun redecorating!

Our bedroom has soft peach colored walls and a white ceiling.
The way I selected the colors for the rooms was not only by color preference but also by how the daylight changed during the day and how that interacted with the colors I was considering.
The darkest rooms got a shade of yellow which helped give the impression of more light.

LOL torontogirl! Shortly after moving, we painted all the common rooms and passages - 'revere pewter'! LOVE it! I'm leaning towards a pale blue for the bedroom, but don't want it to feel cold. Liking msmary's 'buoyant blue' and A's 'robin's egg'.

Interesting that so many change up the duvet/bedspread and accessories with the seasons. I quite like this idea.

I am going crazy trying to figure out what color to paint our bedroom right now. My DH and I used to be a strictly all white paint home, but the last few years have infused some color throughout the house. Our downstair and upstair hallway is a grayish blue, DD's room is a light lavender, and our master bath and powder room have green walls.

I am thinking gray for our room, but I am not sure to what depth of gray. Do want a cooler gray, no yellow undertones. I have an oak laminate floor in that room and my bedroom furniture is teak. Any suggestions?

Lara, I have many of the rooms in my house painted a great light gray called Foggy Day by Dunn-Edwards (not Sherwin Williams, whose Foggy Day is much darker).

My bedroom is pale pink-cream. (aphrodite's dress) . It's a rosy nude. The bed and dresser are white i have pale pink and light gray and white striped curtains, a white and yellow print armchair. with a gray pixar limp like lamp beside . Above a white framed prin of a tree with round colored bubbles instead of leaves( it's called she dreams in color)I change the duvet covers every other week . My current favourites are ikea ( a soft white/pink plaid)
And my tree, still made, in white and red and silver.
I don't have overhead lighning but some lamps (white linen) on the wall beside the bed. My bed is actually like a divan, with 3 wooden sides . I like it all cosy

We're totally out of the mainstream and have a lovely yellow bedroom - Benjamin Moore SunTan. It looks great at all times of the day and isn't too sweet a color. We have a white duvet - no decorative pillows.

We like things simple. All the rooms in our home are painted the same color, Hot Spring Stone by Benjamin Moore. In our master bedroom we have dark wood furniture, white duvet and accent with pewter/grey and black. (Oh wait, I forgot that one room is different; our teeny-tiny powder room is painted black. It is such a small and uninspiring space I used the wall paint to add drama. I actually love it.)

I'm in the process of updating my bedroom. We got all new (to us) Pottery Barn Sumatra furniture and are moving up to a King bed so I need all new bedding (Oy $$$ to rebuy mattress, cover, pad, sheets, pillows...). I use a fitted sheet and duvet with sham and cases on pillows. I buy all white sheets and one white and one pattern duvet and then layer patterned quilts to change it up. I don't like moving pillows around to sleep so when we have the King it will be 2 King pillows in shams (mostly for look and to keep from bonking head on headboard) and then 3 standards in sheet color up front.
My curtains match the Neena quilt blue (posted below). It's calming and restful for me and not too girly for DH.
I love my wall color (Behr Pony Tail which is a camel color) because it's warm and neutral. I recommend picking 3 colors that work together and then you can focus on the exact items.
I'm loving peeking at all the inspiration photos!
