What colors look great with dark rinse blue jeans?

I know that jeans are often treated like a neutral, but I usually try to choose tops and shoes that look good against all my dark blue jeans. Dark blue isn't a true neutral and it can make some colors really pop. What colors will work best? What about shoes?

Well, first, I do believe that you can wear any color tops and shoes with them.
If you want to make them pop, than I would treat them like dark navy (inky blue), about which Angie blogged here

and choose color that pop against it: cream, yellow, citron, cobalt blue, bright green, hot pink, orange, red...
For shoes in addition to these colors I would try metallics ( silver, gold) as well.

I think dark blue is indeed a neutral, especially denim. If you really want them to pop, Tanya has some good suggestions. Any bright or light colors will work, really.

What about matching blues with the jeans? I think navy's a no-no, and cobalt is great if you choose it carefully. Any other ideas? Matching similar colors can look really elegant and unusual if done right. Unless the color is a dull one, than it just looks too matchy- matchy.

Other than cobalt, other blue colors that I wear with dark jeans are light sky blue, aqua, teal and turquoise. I think even navy would work if it's layered over light/bright cami that peeks at the bottom.

Tanya, that's exactly how I wear my navy knit jacket with denim, I layer it over a brighter cami and add interesting accessories like a scarf or bright jewelry.

An addition: I wear dark ink blue jeans a lot. When I match it with an ink blue blouse or jacket, I either add a red waist cinching belt, chunky necklace in a contrasting colour, bright cami and yellow shoes. In this way your monochromatic palette get’s it’s eye-catching contrast.

In my very first foray into Angie's "smart casual" formula, I wore dark rinse jeans with a fuschia blouse and an olive green jacket. I was surprised at how much I loved the combo!

White and red tees always goes fab with dark blue jeans, you should try this.

I like dark rinse jeans with deeps reds, fuschia, burgundy, purples, lavender, turquoise, orange, chartreuse, and multicolor patterns that are bright and intense, as opposed to pastel. Whites and other shades of blue are also good.
