What color for these Sorel boots?

A Zappos coupon has made it's way to me, of course timed to coincide with my obsession for these stompy wedge Sorel boots. I've noticed them on a few friends and colleagues and they all report rave reviews for comfort and function in our wintry climate. I don't wear heels that often any more, but a few times this winter, I've found myself wanting a "lift." However, I'm stuck on a color (as usual).

I'm most drawn to the "Natural tan" color - I keep coming back to these! They'd bookend my hair ... that metallic GOLD! The drawback is I imagine they'd show the salt and grit of winter really fast, even if I spray the heck out of them with protectant.

The black would be workhorses and go with just about everything, and create a long line when I wear black pants/jeans/leggings (which is often). They would probably see a lot of wear.

The Camel would be a great neutral and bookend my light hair too, but do they read as kind of casual maybe?

The navy/black combo looks very chic too! I love navy but don't have a lot of it. But with dark wash jeans they'd be a slam dunk.

I think I'd go for the natural tan! Clearly they will have a high happiness factor, and I actually think they'll show the salt far less than a dark pair.

Definitely spray the heck out of them with protector, and grab a suede & nubuck brush to give them a good scrub when they start to get salty or dirty.

I've been eyeing these also. I think I'd go with the black or blue for myself because I like to "try" to create a long leg line. But it sounds like you really like the gold... Maybe you should order one of each. I have found with some stompy shoes that the lighter colors look "too stompy" and I'm happier with the dark. I think if you order a couple you'll know which to keep. It seems like you need to size up half a size in these if I remember correctly.

I would go totally utilitarian with black but if you have good winter shoes and only want these for occasional wear maybe choose a fun color. For me that would be navy but our colorings are different and maybe you would like one of the tan better. I just worry about stains on light colored winter boots.

Ooh, I just had one other thought, just as I noticed you mentioned dark-wash jeans - make sure the dye on them is not still rubbing off on things or that you cuff them or have a protective sock line haha ... I got jeans dye on my taupe booties once; thank goodness for the magic eraser but just a note of caution

Agree with @AviaMariah about light colored boots often looking bigger, "too stompy". Try 2 colors and see what works. Navy for me - more details visible.

I’d go with whatever seems to fill a bit of a hole in your boot wardrobe. For instance, if you already have a couple of pairs of black boots that would work with the same outfits these would, I’d go for navy or another color. I personally really like the navy because it’s a bit more unexpected but I think it’s hard to go wrong with any of these. I have two pairs of Sorels and they resist stains beautifully and are super comfortable even with wedge heels!

Oh...I empathize with this dilemma. If I were purchasing, and my hair were still blonde, I'd be going through the same darn thing.

1. The light colour is lovely, will bookend beautifully, may not show the salt as much (but might show dirt more) and may absorb dye from your jeans, as TG pointed out.

2. The camel will also bookend and adds a nice warmth (especially would look nice with your new scarf) -- but yes, it does read a bit more casual than the others.

3. Black will go with your entire wardrobe (at least the travel version I saw recently. It will lengthen the legline with black tights and pants. But it's less interesting and less fun, and shows the salt.

4. Blue would be a slam dunk for me, but not, I think, for you.

Hmmm. I think you have to order a couple and do an at-home try on. These will be a terrific addition, whichever you choose.

Oh dear I think I am still stuck on a color!

Thank you all for weighing in... perhaps I shall order the gold and the navy and do some try-ons (though I loathe returning packages, it is my least favorite chore for some reason).

The natural or camel. You can’t go wrong bookending your hair and either would be a nice change from black. Get a bag in a similar color to use when you wear them and you will be set.
