Well, I rarely wear cardigans, scarves or necklaces, but I do own and wear them from time to time.
I never wear - higher than 3 inch heels, super body con clothing and probably more things I have forgotten even exist.

Come to think more, I don't wear knit tops and little cardigans much anymore...

Hose, high heels, swimsuits.

Tunics, jewellery, pumps.

Tunics. I've tried to wear them and I like the idea, especially as MOTG, but it doesn't feel right on me. I feel like I'm not dressed and that I show too much leg, even with leggings.

I do have a pair of steel studs that I wear, but no other jewellery. I used to wear necklaces, but now I get a headache after less than an hour. I loved the stack of armcandy that was trendy some years ago, but now I forget to wear any. Maybe because I sit by the computer writing all day and evening and bracelets just get in the way. I even stopped wearing my steel mens watch which I love.

I have two pair of pumps, but they are a bit too high and I prefer booties and other dressy shoes that stay put on my low vamped feet.

There is probably more I don't wear that I can't think of right now.

Interesting post.

Heels (over 2.5"). They only come out for very special occasions
.
Formal and very dressy clothes. I have tiny capsules for each, and seldom wear.

I don't own any skirts and I never wear court shoes or pumps. I very rarely wear button downs or dress pants

Skirts, heels, dresses, cardis and pumps sit all but idle in my closet, although the dresses might change as the weather heats up. Scarves are rarely worn lately too, but this is a newish development.

How do you all survive without cardigans? I just can't imagine :)!

I agree with the maxis, pumps, leggings, very few button down shirts (I try they just never feel right). Love scarves but lately they make me too hot.

Washable items that require ironing. I enjoy the handful of linen-looks I have, but sadly they hang in the laundry room waiting for someone to press them! (We are in for unseasonably warm weather, so I will take them to the cleaners today for pressing and put them back in rotation.)

Shorts and swim suits-not a good look for me and I will never wear them.

Skirts, dresses, heels, dress pants and jackets both casual and formal versions-I rarely have an occassion to wear these but I jump at every opportunity to wear them. However, in the hottest summer days I wear very casual dresses and maxi dresses.

Jewelry and scarves-I took a hiatus from these for a long while but I'm starting to add them back in a bit lately.

I'm wondering what is the difference between a knitted top and sweater?

You mean, of things that are in my closet? (There are some things that I never wear at all because I don't care for them and thus don't own any, like ballet flats or silky scarves). If we're talking things I own and theoretically might wear but somehow never seem to, I think the top of the list would be hose (love the look, but avoid wearing them whenever possible!), items that require dry cleaning (I should know better than to buy them in the first place, lol), and dresses (they often make me feel either too conservative or too dressed up, even if it's a casual dress).

Well for starters, everything you wear for parties - dresses, high heels, jewellery, tights, etc. You have only few occasions for them during the year ( if you are not a party person like me ) so they can gather some dust in my closet.

Other items I don't use are leggings ( never ), sneakers, flip-flops, skirts ( especially the short ones - never! ), tank tops, peplum tops, mini shorts, .... you could continue this list almost endlessly!

I do not currently own or have any interest in buying or wearing: Maxi skirts or dresses, pumps, cardigans, leggings, tunic tops.

I don't have a shirtdress that fits right now, but I wish I did. They work great for work in our hot and humid summers.

Cardigans -- almost gone from my wardrobe.
Tights/stockings -- I'm slowly getting rid of al of them. I keep hanging on to some "just in case" but never wear them.
Pumps -- only for dressy occasions, and dressy occasions seem to be getting more and more casual, so I keep 1-2 pairs and that's it.
Skirts for fall/winter -- I just don't bother. Too fussy with hosiery and not causal enough. I do like summer skirts and dresses for staying cool though.

Trousers. With the exception of some black ones I made for a show last summer (Chimney sweep!) I don't even own any.

Heels over 3". I can wear them, but I don't really enjoy them; I don't even look any more.

Blazers. I don't like the fit of any modern ones I've ever tried. 1950s suit jackets fit well - I have one that looks tailored for me - but then they appear really formal for my style. That would be the same even if I did find modern ones that fit.

Pumps and shoes. I really only wear boots and sandals.
Button down shirts , bathing suits and maxi dresses.

Dressy clothes, including dresses and skirts. Like others have mentioned, I seem to jump from boots to sandals, skipping regular shoes. I'd like to change both of these, though.

Things I own but don't wear often:
*tunics and leggings (feels too maternity wear, and the ones I have are too big now)
*lightweight cardigans (my thick icelandic and irish wool ones get used as outerwear, but my last remaining summerweight one is difficult to style--I prefer jackets these days)
*three quarter sleeve tops (I just find them super annoying)
*rings and bracelets (they get in the way -- I stick to necklaces)

Things I don't own because I wouldn't wear them:
*heels
*loafers
*pencil skirts
*trousers
*make-up
*earrings (never pierced my ears)

Obviously I don't work in an office environment!

Interesting. I'll wear most any category if the occasion calls for it, it's the details within that category where I get more limited (for example, I love to wear a dress when I can but NEVER fit/flare, ruffled, and rarely even a print. Must be a sheath fit.)

No button-front woven shirts, belted anything, or blazers for me. Oh, and hats with the exception of cadet-style hats for super-casual outdoor activities. I didn't wear shorts for years until I recently realized that bermuda length shorts work really well for me.

This is a great question. I enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts.

I feel like I have a long list. While I want to be open to evolving my style, I've done enough experimenting over the last few years to know what doesn't feel right for me or isn't what I like to wear so I am ok with saying I don't wear (at least for now):

  • ballet flats
  • heels over 3" (max- prefer 1.5-2.5")
  • tall boots
  • blazers
  • denim jackets
  • cardigans (I have 1 long black one that I do still like)
  • button down shirts
  • tee shirts (I do wear knit tops)
  • workout gear for anything but working out (or athleisure styles)
  • wide leg pants
  • ankle length pants
  • chinos
  • maxi skirts or dresses

No heels.

No fitted turtlenecks.

This is the year I swear off anything sleeveless, but not for the reason you may anticipate. I don't dislike my upper arms (yet) but recently I had to switch to a homemade deodorant concoction that involves baking soda, and it is not invisible at all. White and pasty. Needs to be covered with at least a short or cap sleeve.

dress pants/trousers - I like just about every other kind of pant (jeans, leggings with a long top or dress, skinny pants, "crazy pants" (patterned and brightly colored), silky flowy pants - but just hate traditional office wear pants on me.

suits

I keep trying to wear hose in the early spring when it's too warm to wear tights and too cold for bare legs, but I ruin them with one wearing so probably will not be replacing them once they are all gone.

Swimsuits - I wear about once a year at a hotel pool when traveling. I hate getting my hair color ruined by chlorine, and there are no beach vacations in my near future.

Very interesting topic! I think you really got people thinking when you asked this.

For me:
- sweatshirts (too frumpy, I wear spandex for sports, sweaters for dressier occasions)
- bikini (as a marine biologists, while I do wear bikinis, I find my wet suits get a lot more use)
- sandals (I have a pair but I find I always prefer my tall boots or if I'm in a hot climate, I prefer my western boots or combat boots)

Shorts,Sandals & pencil skirts. 8 just have no use for these things in my life.

stillettos, any slip on type of shoe, button downs, peplums, fit and flare, maxi or mini dresses or skirts.

without parsing styles within a category ....button up shirts, and long skirts/maxi dresses

Nothing tight or voluminous, or low cut.
Nothing above knee length.
Due to narrow ankles but needing room in the toe box, no pumps, etc. Shoes must have an ankle strap or tie or zip or be a boot or bootie.
Nothing that is very "out there".

never wear heels!
Skirts and dresses = absolutely...they coolest items to wear in the summer heat. I am looking to add some more to my closet.

Workout wear, which I realise is a very bad thing to admit to.

Gee, if forced to get together and wear everything we won't, we'd be a sea of bathing suits worn with high heels and cardigans. Attractive
