So recent conversations here have suggested that Eileen Fisher quality is becoming inconsistent (not that I bought a lot of EF since it's cut for a shorter frame). The inconsistent quality of AT/Loft, BR, and J Crew is well known. I've become a recent convert to the idea of paying more for linchpin items I'll wear for years, but I'm not happy to spend $50-150 for something that doesn't last any longer than something from TJ Maxx for 20 bucks.

If I liked to wear gear or outdoorsy stuff all the time, I'd just buy from LL Bean or Patagonia and call it a day, but I don't. What's left, for modern classic business casual? If I up my budget to the cheaper designer lines (Michael Kors, say), I'm sized out in most brands as a 14/16.

I was browsing a different Nordstrom branch recently and the Studio 121 section had a lot of Nordstrom Collection and Lafayette 148, which seemed really solidly built. Worth the price? I'm not sure what else is left - am I doomed to a life of only Talbots? Brooks Brothers?
