What bottoms to wear with waistcoats?

I just got the brown linen waistcoat from Old Navy that was down to $7. It actually looks a lot better in person than it does online (which I usually find the opposite is true with Old Navy). I'm most interested in wearing it the way Angie outlined, over a sleeveless shirt especially in this summer heat. I'm a MOTG and I dont own any capris or clamdiggers. I have a couple skirts, jeans and some white jeans which I'm actually about to get rid of bc they dont fit properly. What bottoms are you enjoying wearing with waistcoats for a more casual look?

Today I wore a black waistcoat with gray AT straight leg pants that have a jean cut. I often wear it with dark denim clam diggers , white clam diggers and a dark denim jean skirt. I've also put it with black pinstriped straight legged Express Editor pants. Several members have paired theirs with a dress.

What you wear on the bottom with the waistcoat depends some on how cropped it (the waistcoat) is, a shorter one being the most versatile because you can pair it with both slim and voluminous bottoms. I feel like a longer waistcoat needs a slimmer fitting bottom, most likely jeans or skinny pants.
