I'm really curious, because I don't think I fit into the standard hourglass, apple, pear, or rectangle categories very well. People always tell me they see something different. What do you think? First, my thoughts:
Rectangle: works because I barely have a waist, I'm mostly straight up and down. Doesn't work because, um, breasts. I'm a 38-G. Is there any such thing as a super busty rectangle? Clothes recommend for rectangles generally work for me, provided that they provide room for my bust.
Apple: makes sense because I'm busty, but doesn't quite work because my waist isn't wider than my hips. My waist IS my narrowest point, it just isn't well defined. Comparing myself to my friends who are definite apples, they look wider than I do, regardless of size.
Pear: I think this is the only one I can safely rule out. I'm more top heavy. My hips are wide number-wise because I'm LARGE, but proportionally I think they're average, maybe even narrowish?
Hourglass: my parents told me I was one when I was thinner, but I don't think my waist was ever quite small enough to be a proper hourglass.
Other things: to my eye, I have broad shoulders and I'm short-waisted. ALL my height is in my legs. I also have a little scoliosis, so I'm a little bit lopsided, though it isn't super obvious.
Anyway, it doesn't REALLY bother me that I don't fit neatly into one of these boxes because at the end of the day, I'm going to wear whatever the heck I want, but it's nice to have a shorthand way of explaining what I look like and I've never been able to nail this. I've gone with an "hourglass with more sand," a "fat, busty rectangle," and an "apple with a waist" at different times, and I never look the same to myself. I think this is an imperfect system because humans come in all kinds of shapes. But I'm still curious...
