What are your favorite "fashion sneakers"?

AJ's recent post about spring shoes and Ginny's Vans in her black blazer thread just happened to coincide with my own musings on the fashion sneaker. I don't really have any myself, although I do have several pairs of hiking shoes. So I have been contemplating getting a pair at some point -- I think they would be great in casual situations like sight-seeing or shopping.

What are your favorites? To me the mainstay seems to be the classic Chuck Taylors, but for some reason I don't really like the white rubber toe that most Converse styles have. I'm also thinking about the 80s style black-and-white checkered slip-on Vans.

Converse are #1 in my book, even in my pre YLF days, when Will Smith rocked a pair of black Converse in "I Robot". I seldom wear sneakers but I love Pumas. I have these currently on rotation, what a nice price:

Zap -- I saw these and DSW and loved them, although I almost never wear "fashion" sneakers. Ok, at the risk of a serious fashion-drubbing, I'm going to put it out there and say that nothing says summer to me like a brand new, shining white pair of classic Keds. You know, with the blue back. Kinda feminine, kinda 1960. Retro cute or dorky? I'm not sure, but I"m guessing it's all in the styling. For some reason my heart just can't accept the Converse on my feet -- at least not yet.

I have a couple of (now old) pairs of Michelle K shoes that I loved -- very comfortable for knocking around and much cuter than typical athletic style shoes. But sadly that brand seems to be no more. I'd love to find a good replacement too, so I'll be paying attention to recommendations!

I have a love for classic Keds like Beth Ann but my teenaged daughter informs me that they are hopelessly out of style. I wear a a pair of grey Cons that I picked up up at a thrift store at a YLF meetup, but they are definitely on the tomboy side! If Keds ever have their day in the sun (again), you can be sure I'll snap up a pair.

I love Simple and have a pair I wear all the time when the weather's warmer. They have good arch support too. Unfortunately I just went to their website and discovered that after 20 years they're ceasing production. They're great shoes if you can still find any.

I was lusting over these at Aldo a few weeks ago. I didn't try them on though so I don't know about the comfort.

I'm a basic Chuck Taylor Converse gal - and add cushioning insoles. I am obsessed with the white sole and laces. Those design features really do it for me.

What I currently love in my shoe wardrobe are a beaten-up pair of Hush Puppies that are bright and cheery in blue and green stripes. Nothing unusual, really. But what I find charming about them is visible only when I go for a walk on the dirt tracks here after a short shower of rain --- the sole leaves a trail of floral footprints behind me. For some reason, I'm always very kicked about that!

ETA: I also like the 'new classic' Adidas Three Stripes in bright plummy colours of suede.

Mander, my fashion sneakers are Vans.

I had Chuck Taylors all through college, but they were my dog's favorite thing to chew (other than my underwear) when she was in her puppy chewing phase. I replaced a couple of pairs of them but hated when they looked brand new. I got these Vans as a way of branching out.

I love them, but they get kind of stinky.

I think the checkered ones are classic punk rock. My only concern is that they would be less versatile.

I think that's why I like the idea of the checkered ones, Keruchina -- comfort shoes, but with a bit of a punk/skater association! I've never actually tried a pair on, though. I'll keep an eye out and try some one of these days.

Without a doubt, Converse Chuck Taylors in black, with the white toe. But the other colours are neat too. Funny how some of us find the contrasty white rubber toe so appealing, while others don't care for it.

I have Vans which I quite like - the tie ones, not the slip-ons. They are real skate shoes, though, so they're pretty bulky and too hot for mid-summer. I've been looking for a replacement pair of lightweight fashion sneaks - I had two pair which I really loved, one was the Asics Onitsuka Tiger kinda like these which I wore until they were worn out. And the other was a pair of Kangaroos - remember those - which were low-profile a lot like the Asics. They don't seem to make those anymore for adults, sadly, because they were the best-fitting sneakers I ever had.

I have two pairs of unworn Converse All-Stars, trying to decide on keep or return. One pair is grey from Nordstrom, full price, the other pair are navy blue from TJ Maxx. The latter appear to be of lower quality but seem "good enough" and I think I prefer the navy to the grey. So one pair is going back, will post a k/r soon.

Thanks for the Simple and Vans links, I like those too.

Converse sneakers give me a frumpy feeling.
I got some Born Kai this fall, and they're very comfortable and cute!

I love Cons (have some cons that look exactly like those Simples actually) but also Puma to change things up. Vans are pretty comfortable and a little sleeker than Cons which may make you less conscious of the "white toe" factor.

Claire -- I got a chuckle from your comment about your daughter's review of Keds! My daughter is 10, and I think you just gave me a glimpse of the future!

Mandipa -- thanks for reminding of the Adidas! Those might be an option alongside Pumas for me! Now I'm off shopping..........grocery shopping. ugh. On a Sunday.

Angie that's a good idea to put cushion insoles in Cons as that is the prob with them for me... What about FitFlop sneakers anyone? My cousin is living in hers (yep she got me onto the thong style too!)... Maybe I will have to do a test run on the Cons in my teen age sons' old ones... Am I too old for Cons is the other question????
