Wow.....such great lists! And so many to note for future reference!

Minnie... Funny....wouldn't you think miracles could be reality after everything we tried. You are so right about the cellulite and wrinkles. But, alas we keep trying!

Emily....I really like the clinique products too. I keep returning to some like Posy blush and eyeshadows.

Pastrygirl....I haven't heard of Garden of Wisdom. Where do you purchase this? Is the Sonia Kushak lip balms from Target or another place?

Susie.... Thanks for re-posting your HG list. Great one, I might add. The hair products sound intriguing.... I have been using Nioxin for years, but need to find a replacement for my wiry, coarse hair.

Mo and Stylefan.... I love it when products that stand the test of time, like Humectress (and Ponds) are still HG's. That says a lot about a product AND the probability that it will remain around....so many products that I have loved get discontinued.

Linda....would you tell us more about the Wen product? Is it a two in one hair product. One of my babysitters said she got this for a birthday present. So now I am even more curious!

I have lots.

1. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
2. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (for acne)
3. Clarisonic
4. L'Oreal Waterproof Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black
5. Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palettes
6. Chanel Sylo Yeux Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso
7. Principessa Bacio Me Lip Balm
8. Jergen's Natural Glow Moisturizer in Medium to Tan

What I DON'T have holy grail products for:

1. facial moisturizer
2. foundation
3. bronzer
4. blush
5. lipstick (either color or formulation)
6. concealer (both for under eye and spots)
7. hand cream
8. body moisturizer
9. face powder

NDMom -- GOW is here: http://www.gardenofwisdom.com/home.html

Sonia Kashuk is only available at Target. I'm really impressed with their lip balms! The regular lipstick has too much "taste" for me. I haven't tried the other makeup.

Linda, I really like Sephora Bronzing Powder (Maui is the color I use) -- I get compliments on my skin when I wear it, which I feel is pretty nice praise for someone almost 50. It has a subtle shimmer but not too much.

Mo, how could I forget Humectress? I miss the days when my sister owned a hair salon -- I used to get restocked with Humectress every Christmas as one of my gifts. I am down to the last tube that I snagged from my mom's house after she passed away. I don't use it every day, but I do still like it.

My hair product HG is either Unite 7 Seconds spray on conditioner or It's a 10 -- one of those is necessary for getting a comb through my hair after washing it! I am liking Bumble&Bumble shampoo and conditioner these days, but I tend to switch out hair products every few years.

What a great thread with lots of ideas to try! I am such a beauty hopper I rarely stop at one product -I'm a sucker for a sample or sale so I try different things all the time. These are ones I have repurchased regularly.

Lumene CC Creme - use as tinted moisturizer or base for my foundation
Bare Minerals foundation - Ready in winter and original in summer
Buxom lipgloss (I snuck out of Club Monaco in Boston to stock up at Sephora with my FF coupon)
SKINDINAVIA 10 Years Younger Makeup Setting Spray
Bobbi Brown mascara
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Face wash + Clarisonic
Peter Thomas Roth Lips to Die for Pink Bombshell Lip Balm
Stila Kitten lipgloss
And you all have reminded me I need to repurchase Bobbi Brown Cement eye shadow - it's the only one I've ever used all of.

I always use a serum (right now it's 40 carrots Vitamin C) and day cream (Have a Vine Day Chardonnay Hydrator) and a night cream (Philosophy). I have been trying various eye depuffers and have not found THE one yet. I've tried all the drugstore brands and a few pricier ones. I probably need to try the Philip Thomas Roth (yikes $$$) because they do seem to work well. Anyone have ideas for this?

Clean & Clear makeup removal (no, I'm not 12!)
Rimmel lip gloss in Snog
Cetaphil moisturizer

Oh, fun thread. Mine are...

  1. Clinique All About Lips- I have used this for 30 years and cold sores recover faster and it is the best for flakey lips.
  2. Clinique Airbrush Concealer
  3. Tarte EmphasEYES Eyebrow Pencil
  4. Enjoy sulfate free shampoo
  5. Philosophy Amazing Grace shower gel and body lotion
  6. Heel Rescue foot cream
  7. Clinique CC Cream - I just purchased my second tube so I think it qualifies

And I just started using Exuviance Age Reverse HydraFirm moisturizer and thing it will be with me a long time. My skin loves it.

Thanks for participating in this....now that I think about it (Like Susie said), it probably should have gone under the off-topic section. Still learning....

I love that the products are really all over the place with different brands....both high and low-end. Just goes to show what works for one may not for another.

So many to put down on my list for my quest to find my missing HG's!

I love and use a lot of Bobbi brown, as well as the Laura mercier tinted moisturizer and translucent powder. Some Mac products are Goos but I love Chanel and Bobbi brown lip glosses.

You know, there isn't anything I can say I've stuck with for 20 years or anything. I mean, for example, my mum and grandma always used the Clinique lotion. But there are some products I've kept on with for a good while.

I have lots of endocrine problems so pretty much everything I buy comes from either Whole Foods or Pharmaca, and has as little petrochem as possible. I heard this horrible thing on the radio about how much heavy metals women take in eating off their lipstick and reapplying all day long.

I really like the Mychelle line, esp. the peptide face cream. I rarely wear full make-up, but when I do it's bare escentuals. I know some have had some trouble with it, but it's the only stuff that doesn't make me break out. I do also sorta like the skin-tone-matching makeup from Almay. It's probably still killing me, but it's gentler. I miss the neutrogena copper cream; I believe in copper. And also stuff with Vitamin C. If I were super rich, I'd try all the new oxygen stuff; I believe in oxygen too.

Oh, my fave make-up is the three-in-one stick - shadow, blush, lipstick. I like to travel light. My current is Jane Iredale (sp?).

I like the Aesop rose hair conditioner and their sunburn cream.

You have to try Dior Dream skin! It is a miracle primer. Expensive but worth it.
Also Lancome baume de love lip balms.
And bronzer - almost any brand (although Dior is my fave again). It;s botox on a brush.

Great thread! My HGs are:

Arm and Hammer Baking Soda (make a paste, great exfoliator)
Toleriane facial cleanser by La Roche Posay, works great with my:
Clarisonic--Two or three times a week
Skinceuticals CE Ferulic Serum (10 years strong)
Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel Pads Extra Strength
Aveeno moisturizer for Excema (works on any dry skin during winter)
Bobbi Brown "Extra" products
Giorgio Armani Sculpting Foundation (the gold standard for me)
Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage (amazing for covering imperfections. )
Lansinoh Nipple Cream (Pure lanolin for nursing moms but works great on lips and eyes at night)
Roc Sensitive Skin Retinol Night cream

My HG treatment for skin is a nasty peel called Melanage twice a year. Gets rid of any brown, brightens skin for months on end, shrinks pores. $$ but so worth the results I get.

Let's see...

Cover Girl Professional mascara
Loreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner
Revlon Colorstay foundation, normal/dry skin
Nars blush, orgasm
C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve--- love it for lip balm
Chapstick, the old fashioned stuff in strawberry or cherry

Question for the Humectress fans:

I used to love that, but they changed the formula when they went drugstore and put in silicone among other things...then I didn't like it at all. I bought up all the bottles of the old formula that I could find, but ran out a year or two ago.

I guess you all are liking the new formula if you are still using it. Am I the only one who didn't like the change? Or has it changed back again?

I've had intense allergies for months now so things have changed but some of these are my holy grail always.

Bioderma
Sensibo H20 - I use this to remove mascara, make-up and as a quick face cleaser.
Bioderma Gentle Shower Gel - new product I've had to stop using due to allergies but plan to go back and try once stabilized. Love it. Been using vegetable glycerine soap from the health food store constantly now and normally I use it for two or three showers with the shower gel once and then back to soap.

Avéne
Thermal Spring Water Spray - The holy grail for everything. Spray it on face every day after cleansed and before moisturizing. I also spray it on inflamed skin, down throat for sore throat, to cleanse wounds when out and about. The most important thing to bring on a trip.
Gentle Milk Cleanser - use daily in winter and a couple of times a week in summer.
Soothing moisture mask - Daily in winter, less so in summer but still active. Face only.
I like all of their products that I have tried but these three are the do or die ones.

Cliniderm
The yes allergies are in full force line.
Gentle cleanser - use daily in summer and when allergies are high.
Soothing Cream - use as face moisturizer in summer and on neck year round.
Gentle Protective Lotion SPF 45 -face sunscreen.
Gentle Hairspray - don`t use hairspray often but when I do it is this.
Gentle Shampoo - use year round every other day or so but daily when allergies are high. Really prefer one of the L'Oreal ones but daily use is a disaster.
Gentle Conditioner - once a week if allergies are not high.

Aveeno
Daily Moisturizing Shower Gel - about every second day but never when allergies are high. May soon be replaced or shared with Bioderma Gentle Shower Gel which is a new product I love, not using either due to allergies.
Daily Moisture Lotion - every day when allergies are not high, my favourite. Have gone back to Glaxal Base Moisturizing Cream due to allergies.
Intense Hand Relief Cream - love this hand cream. It cured my husbands construction hands with cracks and weather beaten. Use it on feet after Urea cream.

Urea Cream for feet and elbows. Have forgotten which brand I used before allergies so have not been using and boy can I tell a difference!!!

I used to love Germaine Monteil make-up before the company went out of business and now I'm rather fickle. I do like Dior products though just wish they wouldn't discontinue my favourites. Their lip balm, Dior Addict Lip Balm in the original colour is divine. If I could find a lipstick in this I would be in love. It is the perfect colour and sheerness/natural look that I love but it does not last even a second on me so really not great but I sure do love the look. They also discontinued their eye liner in the green that I loved so switched to Clinique in moss but don't find it nearly as good. The Mac Kohl one that I have in a brown is okay but they don't have any of my colours besides that and the Dior is far superior to these. Really love the Marcelle Volume Prescision mascara with the tiny brush but they have stopped carrying navy and the brown has been hard to find.

Great thread! I like to play, too, so I've gotten some great ideas. Thanks, NDMom, and everyone else, for contributing.

I have rosacea, and I've found a combination of HG products that work well to keep it fairly calmed down.

Rosie for Rosacea shea butter soap from The Blue Ridge Soap Shed - this soap works better than any other cleanser I've used, and it takes off all my makeup, except mascara.
Clinique eye makeup remover - I've probably been using this for 25 years or more
Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream - this is better than anything else I've used for my rosacea, hands down
Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Pressed Powder - it's yellow and it's cooling. Awesome product.
Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup Base in the lightest color - I only use it on the spots I need it if I use it at all
Benefit Boi-ing undereye concealer
Benefit Lemon Aid eyelid primer
bareMinerals tinted mineral veil - for about 9 months of the year, this is my bronzer
Laura Mercier blush of some color or another

I play with eye color, and I'm on the search for the perfect mascara.

I have actually found everything I've always wanted with the exception of a dark plum or purple liquid eyeliner that looks sophisticated and not like it belongs on teenagers. (No sparkles!!!!)

Definitely agree that bronzer is an amazing face lifter!

Oh, and another how-could-I-forget. I don't think I said but Clinique's brow powder in charcoal is amazing for me. I think someone here put me onto this, so thank you!! I have dark brows naturally that are not black, not brown, but the ashy tone of charcoal is just right.

NDMom, I am almost embarrrassed to have mentioned WEN. I mean, it's one of those products sold by "subscription" something of which I am not really a fan. However, I was tired of my hair feeling kind of "fried" and dry -- in spite of air-drying it, and washing pretty gently and not too often. So I signed up. Now, they DID start out sending me waaaaay too many shipments, and they DID include these add-on products that I don't want or need (extra-extra conditioner and some spray kind of product). But I love the way the original "conditioning cleanser" leaves my hair. It gets clean, and feels soft, and the condition, as I said, has really improved.

I would recommend giving it a try, if you even THINK your hair might benefit. I know that I've read about other, similar products, some of them at SALLY beauty supply stores, and there's this Deva Curl line that (I think) is along the same lines. And some people seem to simply use a conditioner as their hair cleanser, which might work, I don't know. I've been happy enough with WEN that other than correcting the initial sell-ups, I haven't tried switching.

Oh, one other thing -- I'm a big fan of great smelling products. WEN literature makes it sound as though they have some great 'flavors" to choose from. But as far as I can tell, there is no particular fragrance to the conditioning cleanser. So I don't even pay much attention to my choices in that regard.

HTH!

Mine are:

Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer (this is a new one for me. Covers my dark circles effortlessly and moisturizes)

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in caviar ink. Not black, not brown. somewhere in between

Anastasia dip brow (another new one for me) waterproof and fills in my sparse brows perfectly, plus I use just the tiniest amount.

Cerave pm moisturizer - I use this during the day as well, just add a sunscreen over.

Clinique powder blush in Aglo - gives me just the right amount for daytime

Bobbi Brown cream blush in melon

Laura Mercier Radiant primer

Diorskin Forever Flawless foundation

NYX setting sprays. I have one for a matte finish and one for dewy. It really makes my makeup last at least 12 hours and they are inexpensive.

As for lipsticks, I have the heardest time finding a shade and consistency I like. I like something between lip gloss and lipstick. More sheer color. Any suggestions?

I am completely with Janet on the coconut oil. I use it to take off eye makeup as well as for a body moisturizer from time to time. For me, the more natural the products, the better. I also use a vinegar rinse on my hair whenever I wash it, to take out any mineral deposits from the water.

My face/makeup go tos are:
Skincare: Juice Beauty
Foundation and translucent powder (which has a beautiful soft filter finish): Tarte
Blush and all eye makeup: Urban Decay (I'm allergic to Mica, which is in almost all blush and eye makeup, and UD is one of the only mica free makeup lines I've ever seen)

HG products
Flexitol lipbalm- the only thing that stops my lips chapping
Lily Lolo mineral foundation
Blinc mascara
Morrocanoil styling cream

I 'try' to buy products not tested on animals (I know a couple of the above are a bit suspect but I can't find replacements) and SLS free which generally don't come cheap so I have a couple of websites which do stock stuff that conforms so just purchase from whichever is cheapest or has sent me a voucher. This applies to all the other beauty/ toiletries stuff x

Peri regarding Humectress. I tried other products but nothing worked as well for my hair so I started to use it when I saw it in the drug store. I have been happy with it.

Retin A!
It's been a journey, though. Well worth it, however. Beauty of the future.
The "uglies" from the beginning can last months, so it's normal to try it, find it irritates your skin, and be tempted to stop. That's what it's supposed to do. But that's just in the beginning. I also use a pea size amount mixed with regular moisturizer, at night.

I did not read the question very well the first time I thought you were asking about things we were looking for but couldn't find -- I have LOTS of stuff I could not live without because it's taken me so long to put together my perfect skincare and makeup routine -- so here goes
Skin care routine:

Make up:

  • I prime my face (because I'm oily) with milk of magnesia using a cosmetic wedge or cotton ball after moisturizing -- it works wonders for keeping my makeup in place ALL DAY - Don't use this unless you are oily because it will dry the heck out of your face!
  • Next I use L'Oreal True Match Concealer (N6-7-8) I add it to the corners of my eyes, under my eyes and my eye lids. I use a brush to spread the product over my entire eye area. Then I dust my entire face in the coordinating Powder (N8) .
  • When I need more coverage because of outbreaks/blemishes I use L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation (N8) under the powder but over the concealer.
  • I could not live without my Bobbi Brown and MAC makeup brushes. I got the Bobbi Brown brushes as a gift but I have to admit my favorites are my MAC brushes because they are nearly 20 years old and they work like a dream. My absolute favorite is my angled eyebrow brush. I would run out and use my last dollar to buy that little skinny brush if I ever lost it.
  • I use pretty boring colors and lipsticks and tend to take a long time to go through any one lipstick or lip gloss. I will say I cannot live without a mascara with tiny bristles because my lashes are sparse and short. Having the right mascara wand makes ALL the difference in addition to dark liquid eye liner -- I look like I have lashes.

How interesting! I have a bunch of HG products but not as many as I'd expext to have after all these years. I think I started using face moisturizer at 12 and mascara at 13 and I will be 39 in June

My oils:
Almond oil for eye make up removal
Karité as a body moisturizer
Argan oil as a night face moisturizer

Make up:
Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara
Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners in Zero and Perversion
Urban Decay eyshadow palettes (I have 6, and have stopped using any other eyeshadow)
Nars blush in Dolce Vita (f/w)
Chanel blush in Intonation (s/s)
YSL glossy stains
Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks

I use a Dickson spray thing on my hair before flat ironing that I adore. And then there's Clarisonic, and I think that's it. I'm constantly changing my skincare products because my skin is constantly changing, and it hardly ever responds well to aggressive treatments, I can't even scrub. Since the Clarisonic came into my life I said goodbye to dry patches and non-hormonal breaking out, but I have still very sensitive and fussy combination skin that has yet to meet the miracle working potion
