What are you not wearing....

from last fall purchases? When I was posting to ManidipaM's post here I started thinking of trendier items that I am not or did not wear much last season. The one stand out piece for me is the Vince Camuto Military Jacket. I just do not reach for it. Instead I reach for my classic blazers. I think it is the military trend that does not fit my Fun Modern Classic style. I will keep it and see how it goes this fall/winter but if it is not worn it will move on.

How about you? Do you have purchases from last fall that are not meeting your expectations?

I bought a great Aqua wool sweater (one of Angie's picks, I think). I knew it would be too warm for the weather here, but I was heading into the polar vortex for Christmas travel. I talked myself into buying it, and it looks lovely and gets lots of compliments. But of course I've only worn it twice, on trips back to wintry climates. I'm afraid its big external zippers mean it won't be a timeless classic. So I guess the moral is that I shouldn't buy really heavy sweaters.

Yes, this pair of i heart ronson dotty pants from JCP. I bought them as my "fun pair of pants" purchase last fall and have only worn them a few times. Soon after purchasing them, I found these fun plaid Joe Fresh pants (also at JCP). I adore those! They both fit in a similar way and I'm not really sure what it is about the dotty pants that I don't care for. Maybe it's the higher waistband - I think I like a slightly lower rise better.

Hmm. I think I'm wearing everything from last fall. What I'm not wearing much are my older (professional) clothes. Dress trousers? Nope. Pencil skirts? Nope. These things just don't fit my daily errand-and-chores-and-cooking schedule. Very freeing, actually.

I will amend this to purchases early this year, since fall stuff isn't relevant to my climate right now. My answer will be dresses. I bought 2 and have not worn either. Was going to, and actually had each one on at different points in time, but either plans changed or the weather changed.
I have known for a while that I like dresses in theory a lot more than I actually wear them in practice. So I aimed to really hone my dresses category and have purged several. I'm very happy with the 2 I got, just haven't had the opportunity to don them. They are not fancy, per se, but life is just so casual here that they appear so.

Dresses. I went through a streak of about 1-2 years straight, wearing dresses nearly every single day, all seasons. So I bought a bunch of new dresses around December, but find I just haven't been wearing them much (maybe only 2-3 x's a month), as suddenly I found myself shifting into a jeans/pants kick instead....

BUT that will change -- is changing --since the weather is warming up. I much prefer to wear dresses w/bare legs and strappy sandals in temperatures above 70-75 degrees. Although last year at this time, my strategy was dresses + bare legs + tall boots or booties, and that worked well for 50-60 degree weather. But, I've just not been feeling that look this year, for some reason.

Once the temps go above 80, I can no longer stand the feel of any waistband -- pants, shorts, skirts -- no matter what the material. Too sticky. Bring on the breezy easy dresses!

not wearing my dresses nearly as much as last spring - partly due to the Spring Vortex here in the Great Lakes - partly because I'm so enamored with my BR Sloans which seen to work in any and all situations lately. I'm sure the dresses will get their share of play time as the weather finally warms

I bought a couple of pairs of jeggings from AE, as well as a pair of straight-leg jeans from J Jill. I wore them both lots last fall but stopped over the winter, and it's been quite a few months since I've felt like I wanted to wear them. In the interim, I bought a couple of pairs of boot cut jeans (one from AE, one from WHBM), as well as a pair of coated jeans, and I find I like those better and so always reach for them instead. But I cut myself slack here because I hadn't been jeans shopping in so long, so I just took the first stuff I found that flattered me and fit me. :^)

Absolutely everything...because it is 90 degrees already! We had about a three week spring and then it was too hot to wear anything specifically transitional, just straight into summer. I never even got a chance to wear a Fall something I bought on sale mid-winter and figured would be good for spring. Oh well, next Fall. On to the summer shopping, of which there is desperate need.

last year's red skinnies and the new faux-wrap dress I thought would be a workhorse. seems I don't like the fit and flare silhouette on my apple body.

I didn't wear anywhere near as many dresses and skirts as I did the winter before. I think that was due to two things, the first being that I had a lot of great colored jeans and a lot of patterned ones as well... I think the second issue was colder than normal temperatures that left me wanting full coverage. I discovered fleece lined tights towards the end of the season and hope next year with those, I wlll wear more of the dresses and skirts I love!

I bought some straight leg Ponte knit pants that I didn't wear as much as I thought I would. I think I prefer a narrower leg and woven over knit in general.
They fit well, are comfortable and practical, but I just don't feel fab in them.

I don't know what I'm forgetting. I haven't worn my lux sweatshirts as much nor my camo letterman/bomber jacket. The problem has been the weather is either too cold or too hot.

A chambray shirt. Love the look on others, and was on the hunt for one for myself for ages. I finally found it, and it's been hanging in my closet ever since.

From last fall....I actually wore everything. Everything I kept, anyway. (I had a few items I was unsure about and I ended up sending them back before I cut the tags.)

But there were items that I wore less than I might have expected:

1. Tall boots and booties. It was so snowy and icy that I pretty much wore snow boots all winter -- fashion took a backseat to real-life needs. And even though my fashion boots were weatherproof, they were not weather proof enough for the conditions. As for booties -- forget it. I could only wear those indoors from the end of November on.

2. Plum pencil skirt (just didn't have opportunities) and sleeved sheath dress. I did wear them -- but only once or twice.

Lesson for me: the weather rules all. I am not sorry I bought these items; they will get wear in a different year. But sometimes I need to leave room in the budget for spontaneous weather-related purchases. This year it was heavy-duty snow boots.

The Halogen knit moto jacket I bought at last summer's NAS; I like it, it goes with jeans and the olive green is a great color but it just feels too "office" to wear in my everyday life. I have a bad habit of getting carried away at NAS so plan to resist any ideas of "just checking things out" next time around.

I bought a long sleeved denim shirt with snap buttons that I thought I would tuck into skirts. I only worn it once last winter. It's too hot to wear it now, but I'm hanging onto it since I think I'll get more use out of it this fall.

Like April, I've worn all my fall/winter purchases multiple times. I did start not enjoying a thrifted wool coat about two months ago and plan to replace before next winter. I liked it--it was a style improvement over my last wool coat--until I saw almost the same coat on someone else and thought it looked kind of dated and conservative--oops! I'm glad the temps are finally warm enough that I don't have to wear it anymore.

High or mid-heeled booties - lux sweatshirts (like Rachylou) - also like someone else haven't been wearing my chambray shirt.I wear shirts so often for work that on my days off, it feels good not to have that collar, button down and woven fabric feeling. Also not using clutches as much as last year, I seem to quickly go back to my backpack or cross body bag.

Fall: Cream pussy bow blouse. Not sure why; maybe the bow is too low?

Summer: Anything tailored at my normal waist/bust size. Too tight right now, so some of my tops and one skirt are on hold (not a fan of bodycon for myself).

I have a number of items I have worn very little or not at all. Mostly because I've been trying to keep the size of my working wardrobe down, which means overall I have less items which are worn more often. I have a pair of glen plaid trousers from Vince Camuto, with a matching peplum shell that has not been worn much. I still like these pieces, but just never got around to wearing them. Another rarely worn item that was a new purchase in the fall was a brocade print bomber jacket, and two splurge purchases, a chunky Theory sweater/jumper and a berry colored Tory Burch sweatercoat. I also still like these pieces, but I still own too many clothes and they never made it into the regular rotation. I am planning to retire some pieces before the season starts again so that I can wear these new and mostly unworn items. It's either that, or purge them, since I can obviously go an entire season without them.

I've gotten better at not buying things that end up not getting worn but I did have a few.

One was a pair of navy suede booties. I bought them while I was waiting for the Zara navy boots to come. I wasn't sure if the Zara would work so I got the others too but it was the Zara pair that i reached for every time.

Then there was a cream color, beaded front sweater from BR. I wore it one time and just didn't like it on me. I've already purged it by selling it to Twice.

Actually I am now wearing very few of my fall purchases just because it's now hot here!

Yes, I have a few of those. I have a pair of burgundy/purplish & green cropped jeans that I bought last summer and have not worn them at all. I have a couple of colored jeans but I fo some reason, I can't seem to pair them right. There are some booties and sandals that I've only worn once or twice. One pair of sandals that I really like but they kill my feet if I walk too long in them sits in my closet collecting dust.

From last fall one item stands out, a navy pencil skirt. Navy is my new black. It seemed like a well thought out purchase that would work with my existing items and colour palette. From cleo, it's quite good quality for the price and fits me in a flattering and comfortable way (many skirts do not). It comes to just below the knee.

Problem is, it's a navy pencil skirt! Cut more business than bombshell. What seemed like a great basic is just too conservative and business uniform-ish for me.

Nothing stands out in my mind although the winter was so fierce I didn't wear my knee high boots nearly as often as I thought it would. It was snow boots most of the time.

I try to wear all of my clothing. If I don't wear something it tends to leave rather quickly. I would say 3 months max. I cannot stand the clutter of a unused wardrobe.
