What are we thinking about tall boots?

Hi Lovely Ones,

This may seem like a silly thing to be thinking about for those of you currently experiencing the warmer seasons, but I am wondering how everyone is feeling about tall boots.

My tall boot capsule needs an overhaul. Last year I bought one new pair of nudeish coloured wedged heel suede boots and a flat pair of black suede boots but everything I have bought since are ankle booties. I am wearing a pretty old pair of black tall boots today but I think they need to to the donate corner.

I have had a browse on line but I am just not feeling tall boots this year. Of course they are so practical in the cold weather I am quite suprised because I have loved tall books since my mum bought me white patent ones as a little girl. Funnily enough I did find a rather cool pair of black patent leaather booties!!

So just wondering what the Aussie girls, and others ofcourse, are thinking.

You may have guessed if I have time to be pondering my footwear situation, it's a slow day at the office

I most certainly was not feeling tall boots last fall/ winter. Eventually I wore them, of course. I always do, when our real winter hits. And I was grateful to have mine. But I didn't find them terribly exciting. Meanwhile, I had to restrain myself from buying too many pairs of booties. I bought several, and could easily have added a couple more (well, except that common sense finally prevailed.)

But I have heard Angie saying that tall boots are going to be a hit this coming fall again, at least if the runway shows are any indication. So perhaps we can expect to see some really beautiful versions?

I still love my tall boots but was also wearing booties more than their taller siblings last year. I wore the taller boots almost daily for the previous two winters so perhaps I just needed a break.

I think the tall boots will always be in and I will continue to wear them.

Interesting! And I am glad I am not the only one. I do still love tall boots but I think ankle booties look so fresh and modern to me that my tall boots are a bit "ho hum". I think I will wait and exercise PPP until the perfect pair of black tall boots come my way. In the meantime, is it wrong that I have just ordered yet another pair of booties??? I had a wardrobe hole fora patent bootie!

I find myself reaching for booties a lot more these days. The number of days I wore something other than boots, whether short or tall, was negligible this past cool-to-cold-weather season, from about October through March or April. During that time, I'd say I wore short boots/booties quite a bit more than tall boots, maybe a 3/4 to 1/4 ratio. I bought a new pair of tall boots and a new pair of booties, and although I am more enamored with the tall boots, I wore the booties far more. They just seem more versatile to me. I ended up wearing tall boots mostly with skirts. I think the reason I wore booties more is that I may be a little bit over the equestrian-feeling tall boot and skinny pant look. It makes me a little sad, because I do love my tall boots.

Firecracker I wonder if we are tall boot fatigued? I am wearing mine over ponte leggings today and I am quite bored by the look.

Last fall I bought a pair of concealed wedge almond toed tall boots in a black pebbly leather. I really enjoyed wearing them with dresses and denim (including colored). However I have a pair of lovely classic black riding boots that I can't stand the sight of anymore and I didn't wear them once last fall or winter. So I'm wondering--is it all tall boots we're tired of? Is it mainly equestrian influenced boots as Firecracker indicates?

I'm not thinking about them until the perfect pair fall from the sky (which would have to happen whilst I was doing a head stand so that they could land perfectly on my feet!).

I bought a pair of long boots several seasons ago, and chose a pair with a "quirk factor" that were not high fashion, but I just loved them. I still love them, but the heel height and hard soles make my feet quite tired by the end of the day, so I don't wear them often. They also make high-heeled noises when I walk and I prefer quiet shoes.

The patent booties are fab! I say buy what you love and love what you buy!! I still have long-boot envy because I am yet to find my perfect every-day pair, so to me, the look isn't tired out just yet!

I think I'm going to follow suit though, because I saw these and loved them...

Oh, and did you giggle at Angie the other day Deb? She was wearing her summer gorgeousness and bare legs, while we were all rugged up in our winter woollens. I googled weather forecasts, and we were experiencing very similar temperatures, which for us, means winter. I'd have frozen with bare legs that day!!

Adelpha, yes perhaps it is the equestrian style we are tired of, though my boots aren't really in that styling.

Anna, those red booties are amazing. I love Wittner shoes. You need those:)
And yes I find it so funny what we call cold and what someone else calls cold! I feel kind of guilty saying it's cold here when I know our Canadian friends have sub zero temps and snow. I could not have had bare legs in those temps either he he

Deborah, I had tall boots on my wish list but I have ditched them in favour of an idea from Angie's Pinterest that I am going to try.* It is from the Fall Winter fashion runways and it is skirts and dresses worn over skinnies. When I tried this the mirror said nice things about the look.
And my legs were snugly warm.
And not buying boots means I can stay on track with (aspirational) SYC.
But I haven't tried this IRL yet or even taken photos. Anyway, do take a look - I'd love to know what you think.

* Will I? Might be a bit fashion forward for the sleepy hollow I inhabit.

You've got me thinking, Deborah. I can relate to the feelings you express about your ponte leggins and tall boots. I'm a little ponte-skinny-pant fatigued, perhaps, too. So I think we may need to come up with new ways to wear tall boots. I'm wondering how they might play with the newer slouchy pants fits, but I can't quite picture any inspired looks. Meanwhile, I'm with those who would advise you not to look too hard for tall boots, but just keep an eye out in case the most fabulous pair happens to fall from the sky in front of you.

Lantana you must try that look. I am off to peruse Angie's pinterest. I am a long time wearer of dresses over pants and skinnies and I think it's a really cool look while maintaining an elegance. You would rock it!

Firecracker it will be intersting to see what comes next. I think we do need a fresh take on the long boot.

Deborah, I must be way off the fashion radar as Edinburgh has been tall boot heaven for me as I have difficulty finding my size... anyhow several boxes of above have been delivered to Aust awaiting my return. For me boots are my saviour for wearing skirts as I am so poison eye about my legs and I just love the swishy feel of wearing dresses/skirts over pants. I was never into the equestrian look but that is so funny because people here have been commenting on how dull it is seeing tucked in boots, long t, jacket and long hair look - even though the young women wearing them are so gorgeous. So definitely a change is in the air. As for ankle boots, they have been in for a few years and I wear mine nigh on daily this trip but perhaps there is a turn coming...

I love tall boots, but until the past two years had not owned a decent pair, so they are very fresh to me. I love booties too. To me it's like your kids; you love 'em both, or all : ) (funny analogy, since I only have one) . I just feel taller and sleeker in tall, fitted boots, but the booties are what bring edge and interesting patterns and colors to my outfits.

I love tall boots! So practical for our brutal winters, especially with dresses and skirt. I hope they stay fashionable!

The strange thing is that I was completely over tall boots two winters ago, sold off my collection and then proceeded to restock it and wear my new (to me) boots a lot this past winter. It was particularly rainy this year, which was a big part of it - rain plus poor drainage means lots of puddles!

I bought some really fab booties last year and ended up wearing them so much I neglected many of my tall boots. However, I still love tall boots and think I'll probably wear them a bit more next fall/winter. I think booties were just so easy with BF jeans and the like.

I also recall hearing that tall boots were coming back in - although I don't think they truly left but booties have ruled for the past couple of seasons. I have a pair of cognac riding boots and my black Blondo knee high boots from last year's NAS that I still wear and really like.

I am glad to hear they will be big this fall. I love me some tall boots. Tall, FLAT boots, that is. I don't think I could get through a long, cold, snowy winter without them. Though I only discovered booties at the tail end of this past winter.

I was looking for tall boots last winter. There were plenty of sleek equestrian styles but I was looking for something more rate. I was able to find more boots to compliment my style in mid calf and booties. I did find the Bed Stu boots but if I found another to my liking I'd snatch them up.

I was off my tall boots for 18 months - accept for my go go boots, and OTK boots which I continued to wear. And I wore my mid-calf boots to death, along with lots of booties.

But tall boots are making a fashion statement this Fall so it's going to be interesting.

Shannon, not Angie but I have seen a lot of wedge styles, pull on ( No zipper), and super streamlined styles ( no buckles / straps etc).

I still liked and wore mine last winter. I didn't buy any but my boot collection (of all heights) is very, very well stocked. =P

I am planning to continue the gold zipper boot search in the fall... since I don't actually have tall, sleek black boots right now.

i love tall boots. full stop. i just got a pair of glynn choos last fall that i will wear for the next 10 years. am about to resurrect a pair of boots with woven sides and a kitten heel this fall. cognac equestrian boots ready and waiting.

booties and me...we don't really get along. i love the ones i have, but aren't planning for more. shoeties are better, but i think of them as high-vamp shoes.

my uniform last winter was tunic/dress, leggings/jeggings/jeans, tall boots. i predict the same this winter.
