Yesterday was not a great day! After barely four hours sleep on Thursday night and a cold that just won't leave after about 3 weeks of snot, I just felt awful. And we had plans for Friday evening with my family. It was my parent's 39th wedding anniversary so I decided to invite them to dinner at my home.
My folks arrived at about 6 and we were greeting them outside - and having a giggle because you know how I was dressed in the blue and black yesterday? And hubby thought that I was dressing like my mother? Well she arrived wearing a similar shade blue jersey and black pants. I had changed out of the loose fitting pants into some leggings, but I was still wearing the blue top.
As we were walking towards the house, my Labrador jumped up against my mom to greet her and knocked her off her feet and to the ground. I literally heard the thud of her head against the paving. I rushed over to help her and discovered that she sustained a bad gash on the back of her head that was bleeding profusely and I suspect a mild concussion. My dad rushed her to the nearby hospital and she received 9 staples to the wound. She is okay today- lightheaded and sore though.
It was all so awful and I really didn't cope well. All my first aid skills escaped me as I saw her lying there bleeding. I felt so irrationally scared about whether she would be okay. My mom has always been strong and healthy, but she is 74 now and she looked so frail! On the bright side, I was so impressed at how calm my 10 year old boy was... he managed to lock the dogs away and run up and find a bandage on his own initiative while my dad and I were trying to help my mom up. So good!
What a horrid day!!!
