Those who identify as African American span a wide variety of appearance: Skin color, build, hair texture, and other stuff too numerous to name. Same variety as those who do not identify as AA, so I don't think one can generalize. Nothing wrong (other than expense!) with experimenting with your style to figure what feels most like *you* (other than making modifications to suit workplace demands/expectations). For an African American woman, I'm thinking that hair (processed/natural/weave etc.) can have a bigger impact on style than say, a Euro American woman's hair. And hair can harmonize with the rest of the look or be a juxtaposition!
Have fun on your journey.
