What a relief...thank God !

I didn't want to post about this while it was going on and no one knew except my husband...but I am so relieved that I have to post now.

Some of you know that I had internal bleeding and stomach issues during the cancer treatment stuff. Well, a doctor found a 2cm lump in my stomach lining that they thought was cancer. I had a biopsy done 10 days ago. I have been on pins and needles. But just now, I got a letter saying it is NOT cancer. YAY !!! Though they have no clue what it is. It apparently is a cluster of "inflammation cells" and they don't know why it is there or exactly what the cells are beyond that general finding.

And once again....I am the most interesting ( read: bizarre ) patient at the clinic.
I like to think "interesting". Anyway, many more follow up tests. But the cells are not malignant. ONWARD !

I have to always be careful with the choice of the word "interesting" - because what I find interesting is probably really strange and we don't have a clear answer for the patient.

Lyn*, LOL. Yes, I know that. I overheard my doctor call in another doctor ( his mentor - he told me later ) during the 2nd endoscopy and they are both utterly stumped. But all I need right now is "no cancer" , considering I am not done with the first one ! : )

Lyn, I spent quite a few years doing cancer research and my Oncology clinic is at a major teaching hospital...I go there because they see many "interesting" things that other places don't. I even signed up for a few studies. I know that they have to kinda like "interesting" things. That is why they are there. Heck, I find it interesting. : ) I really like the relationships that I have with my doctors and I like being able to talk in a straightforward manner with them. It makes it feel so much more collaborative and gives me a little sense of control and participation in my "problem".

Isabel - so glad you are okay. I am also amazed at your courage. You have been on here quite a bit the past few days, cheering others on and generally being a supportive force. That must have been so difficult when you were under such stress. You are a model of grace.

Thank you all ! It is just so great to celebrate with friends. This is such a place of respite for me, you have no idea.

Suz, your post in particular touched me because you notice when I am around. Wow. : ) I had my first endoscopy around Thanksgiving. Then the follow up 10 days ago. Thanksgiving through the beginning of this year was crazy , so I wasn't around much. Plus both my parents are in heart failure and both need defibrillator implants and it all came to a head around the same time. So it has been nuts. The last couple of weeks have given me a bit of a breather so I have been on more.

I tried to put the possibility that it was cancer again, out of my mind as much as possible. There is nothing that I could do. And I am not done with the first cancer bout, so I already had a planin place if it was cancer again. Plans make me feel better ! And I have access to the most wonderful physicians and nurses and social workers and psychiatrists. That puts me furthere ahead of the game than most people. Was I scared ? YES ! But whatever it "is" , I was going to face it. There is no choice. So I might as well enjoy what I can while I can. I have also felt all along that no matter what the stats are ( and I don't usually like to know stats for prognosis ), SOMEONE has to be the statistic that works out well. And I am going to fight like hell to be that statistic. It might as well be me. : ) Why not me ? They still have to figure out what this all means, but at this point, no malignancy is great !

This wonderful "place", YLF, brings me joy. Lots of it ! I laugh, I cry, I contemplate, I am entertained by wit and outfits and all the wonderful, wise women here ( and Greg ). All one one place...for no admission fee. Talk about being on the good side of probability !

Oh, Isabel -- YOU are the one who is wonderful. Truly. What a joyful, fun, and funny presence you are. And somehow you manage it in the face of so much stress.

Anyway, I'm just relieved that you are an "interesting" case rather than a sad statistic. However stoic and brave you are, and however great your support network, it must have been incredibly difficult to be waiting on the news through the holiday season, especially with your parents unwell.

Being part of the sandwich generation can really make a person feel squeezed, can't it? I know I feel that way a lot of the time, with far less cause -- I have my health (thank goodness) and only one child (albeit with special needs, but you have that as well) and only one parent living and needing care....and I STILL want to scream and tear my hair out some days. Well, ask Mr. Suz, some days I do! Luckily, he gets it.

But you're right - it's such a blessing to come to the forum and laugh and think about clothes. And to always be able to check in. I know I have checked at times of trouble -- waiting with my mother in the doctor's office, waiting with my daughter. Just to have a place to go, a happy place. It's a good thing.
