Hello YLF!

In my part of the world, March is tricky for wardrobe. Can be serious snowfall or none at all. High winds are common but it's not warm enough yet for them to feel like a harbinger of true spring weather. Can't put the snowboots away yet and need to keep the parkas in rotation with the trench coats and denim jackets.

I'm fortunate to have enough storage that the only things I truly put away are snow boots, but not until April or so. Everything else stays put and just gets ignored until its season rolls around again.

It is not so extreme here but March is usually tricky. In Italian March is called "the crazy month". The temperature can fluctuate dramatically from day to day and even from morning to afternoon. At present we are experiencing consistent weather: it's raining with an average day temp of 10-12C since a week.

Not so extreme-boots and big coats were put in storage already. Like Sisi above, mild weather here in the EU, loafers and trenches times for me till end of April.

Sisi, well the Italian language nailed that one ... March is bonkers. Spring one day and winter the next! Personally I've found that accepting the wardrobe chaos is the only way to cope!

Yes, March is tricky. February has been that way this year. On Tuesday I wore a short sleeve tee and later in the afternoon, I ran in short leggings and singlet; Wednesday I bundled up in long sleeve tee, cozy pullover sweater, puffer and jeans. 60° temperature difference!

As to switching out seasonal wardrobe items, yes and no. Most categories are left in their place year round, but I do switch short for long sleeve tee from hangers to storage in a small bin, and switch hanging short/sleeveless for long sleeve button shirts from my bedroom closet to the guest room closet. Also a few pairs of jeans which lean towards colder or warmer weather move from one closet to the other. The idea is having what I need daily in my own closet.

Have fun in March because it’s cold today but forecast up to 70° again on Sunday.

Forgot to say - most of my clothes stay in the same place year round. I store apart only the heaviest Winter pieces (woolen pullovers and pants) but usually not before June!

Even wilder swings than normal here in Michigan. I will be keeping my winter gear out for another month or two. Many of my clothes are worn year round but there are always some that get packed away seasonally but, like my coats and boots, not for a few more months.

For me, living in the Southern Hemisphere, March weather is delightful. February is simply hellish, we experienced many days above 40C, so with things cooling down to a maximum temperature in the 30’s is welcome. I am looking forward to needing a topper, it has been months since I have worn one!

March is our snowy month. Winter stays around a long time.even in summer it can be cold and windy at high elevations. Some winter clothing stays in the closet all year, including warm coat and snow gear. Roads are supposed to be cleared by May first but not always. Recently there has been sking until July 4…high trails can be covered with ice. It is crazy.

We often have a big snowfall in March, but we have had so many warm days that I am doubtful this year. Next week it will be in the 50s and rainy, which I think is the hardest weather to dress for. You need a coat, but it's almost too warm for one, dark shoes and pants are essential, but boots seem like overkill . . . Sorry to be a grouch!

So funny you should mention this. I've been avoiding bike rides (I ride outdoors year-round) because I'm not ready to face the winter-like temperatures we're having the past few days here in Seattle. We've even had a little bit of snow fall out of the sky, though it didn't stay around long. We are heading into the time of year when I'm ready for spring dressing, but need the winter layers. This is when I lean into my cashmere and wool sweaters and corduroys in lighter spring-like colors.

Not freezing but cold enough for a Puffer coat here on the Black Sea. I am not wearing my heavy turtleneck knitwear this year though. It was warmer a week or so ago.

We’re expecting a big snowstorm tonight. Yesterday, it was so windy I thought we were going to Oz.

Same April, although snow boots are in semi-storage already, no longer in view at the front door. The angle of the light is completely different but it was in the teens last night.

Some of my very cold weather hats and sweaters seem so "not right" colorwise in this early spring that I'm glad I have versions that are in a neutral color, which for me, is various shades of grey.

This winter has been unusually warm so far. I wore my new winter boots maybe twice. I moved them together with fur lined Converse high tops and a long, heavy puffer out of my closet. Not too far yet but hope I will not need them. Even with a recent couple of days of cooler weather, I consider winter is done
I actually look forward to wear something else than a puffer, so happy to see March on the calendar.

For us in Seattle, from March until the end June - we have THREE seasons. Winter, Spring and Summer. That's why we took ALL our clothing with us to our temporary home

Same April! Yes, keeping the winter things ready to go in case of snow which is still a possibility until April. Lighter weight coats are easily accessible. I won't wash my puffer, or perform my "end of season" tasks for my boots until well into April as I know the weather has a few more tricks up her sleeve!

I know I am in the minority when I say that I am sad to see the end of winter. It wasn't much of a winter this year and I feel sad about that because I do love the snow and cold. It is starting to become a novelty in a place that should be in deep winter for a solid three months.

The big puffer and long wool coat have been cleaned and moved to the off season storage closet, as have the big snow boots. The lilac trench coat has been brought out. The weekend closet project is sorting through cold weather accessories. Weather wise the next two weeks are forecast to be above freezing, and I’ll be in Florida for the last two weeks. Like Irina, I’m done with winter!

DH and I saw snowdrops on our walk today. By the end of it, we had our coats hanging open and our hats off!

March is coming in like a lion in these parts! Today I am in Vancouver, where the temperature is 6 degrees centigrade but it feels colder because of bitter damp winds, periodic heavy rains, some showers, and yes, HAIL. FUN!

I had to be out and about and on transit so here is what I wore: Boots, Jeans, merino sweater, scarf, short puffer jacket, long wool coat, cashmere beanie, gloves, and umbrella!

March is lovely here. Warm summer temperatures continue but generally it is less humid. April is lovely too. Things usually don’t get tricky until May.

On the horticultural front: our snowdrops are up and many of the bulbs out front (not sure what they are but they're meant to be spring bloomers) got confused and came up well before snow.

March is when our meadows get cut to the ground so the barrenness of winter is about to get a whole lot more barren.

A gift: all winter, one bare red twig along the meadow path has had a tiny piece of white down caught in its tiny gnarls. An inspiring reminder that spring will come and that the birds carry their winter wardrobe with them.

Lots of rain in store during the next few weeks. Tonight I realized I don't have a trench coat--haven't had one for years. I have rain jackets, one with a hood. Now I remember I don't really need one--life has changed since Covid.

March rain is tiresome,but it's ok, we'll deal with it. We need it. New leaves coming out, blossoms, and buds on the rose bushes. I can't help myself--I got out some of my summer clothes even though I won't be wearing them for weeks.

Not my favorite month, but my younger son was born in March.

Well April, the highs are a bit low (still only around the upper 60s), although yesterday was in the upper 70s. Also still expecting a bit of rain so my jackets are still on the ready. Ducking .

I hear you on March mixed weather. This year I got my first day of sneakers yesterday. Last year was snowstorms and snow up to my thighs! I’m crossing my fingers for temperatures above freezing point so snow and ice will keep on melting.

March in Arizona is perfection, mostly in the 70s and 80s. I revel in it, as I know what is coming. Layers are good, as it can get quite warm in full sun, but chilly in the shade, early morning and night. Lots of visitors for Spring Training and other events!
