This week for the most part I embraced fall dressing. Temps are still mild in the day but we've had frost warnings overnight.
First, the outfits:
1 Saturday not pictured, white jeans. I hoped to try them with black and leopard, but couldn't resist my favourite way, with floral chambray shirt and mint suede loafers.
2 pic 1 Sunday another FFBO: Breton stripe sweater dress too heavy for actual summer wear, toned down with a long white gilet. I planned for my wedge heeled desert boots (copying a previous #10 wear) but found these nude pumps quicker, and M. Abeille was wearing his spiffy new suit. I think they're a bit too delicate for this outfit, the booties would have balanced it better.
Later in the day I added white capris and my black Ecco sneakers for an ER shift.
3 Monday I embraced my fall black-and-white. I even switched from the navy to the black cross-body (which I never remember to snap). Houndstooth pencil skirt, black 3/4 sleeve mockneck top, the new Ecco sneakers. Felt very 60s mod; high happiness rating.
4 Black cuffed culottes, that I couldn't locate last fall/winter. I think I like the silhouette more now that my eyes are used to seeing wider/straighter crops. These are awkward to style because of their low rise and odd fastening that precludes belting, but I worked around it this time with a super-long knit top. The varying width of stripes optical-illusions you away from the tummy, so you might not notice how long it is at first.
I wore cutout booties and tweed jacket for the morning chill, with my hooded trench over.
Happiness factor good. I'm going to put these culottes back in rotation. Not so sure about the jacket.
5 Blue pinstripe 3/4 sleeve shirt, black and white plaid ankle pants, and Maryjanes.
6 This day was well planned in advance. Up early to drive to city for 2 medical imaging appointments, then on to a mostly desk day in my work town. Popover top and pull-on pants chosen for speed, but because no metal fasteners I was allowed to leave them on for the bone density! These navy slingbacks at the office, navy ballet flats for the running. Plus my tan hooded trench, only needed in the early chill, and back to the navy cross-body.
7 My stab at the new-old tucked high rise silhouette, which suits my long torso. These are the Black Watch pants I thrifted in Glasgow. I tucked in a white blouse with eyelet inset, and wanted a low vamp shoe to balance the full-length, so these are the new Clarks ballet flats. Added mixed-media leather jacket. Then realized that via step-by-step calculations, I had arrived at the traditional way to wear tartan (lace jabot and all).
Reflections:
I didn't have access to my lists from past years, but I came across a post from last year with some of my favourite outfits (that I remembered to photograph) from September and October. That gave me some ideas, and reminded me what I love about fall dressing.
This transitional season is just a short interlude before the many months of winter dressing. While I can, I will make the most of:
Closed toe shoes worn without socks. This includes loafers, oxfords, ballet flats, and D'Orsay and cutout styles that were overlooked in favour of sandals and sneakers.
Once the weather cools to need socks, but not yet snow boots, this will then move on to shoes and booties worn as the day's outfit, indoors and out. This can incorporate silhouettes that don't play nice with both winter boots AND indoor shoes. I should check for flared legs and fussy hem lengths (to wear them while I can).
Also to wear while bare legs are still possible: my tube and knit pencil skirts, that creep too much with hose, and the cooler-weather culottes.
One major one is jackets. My window for wearing blazers is so short. Two ýears ago I set a fall challenge to wear as many as I could. Must look those up.
High rise thoughts: bring them on!
