K/T (ETA photos) Wedges: almost gone?

Thanks to all who've filled me in on wedges, refined wedges, and platform status.

More concretely, what about these particular sandals? Platform 3/4", heel 3".

I'm not in love with them bc the quality isn't great, and I'm not sure what the style says. Wore them with a black seersucker cargo skirt, and with jeans.

But putting them on just now for the photo reminded me how comfortable they are.

What say you? Toss now, or keep until spring then decide?

What's the life-span of a trend like wedge heels? How do you track its stages, and where in that process is wedge-heeled footwear?

Or are wedges something that are always around (like bootcut jeans), just sometimes much more so, and other times overshadowed by a more current shape?

Good question. I suspect that wedges are going to be around but platforms may not. Anything in the extreme may get dated faster than a more conservative version.

Angie explained a while ago that wedges with thickness under the ball of the foot (a platform) are on their way out but "refined wedges" with just a regular sole under the bottom of the foot are still good.

I think refined wedges have never gone out of style. A simple cork wedge is a summer classic and perfect heel substitute for those of us who cannot wear pumps (too many blisters) and don't like stilettos.

I sure hope the refined ones with the cork wedge are going to be around for a while. I'm taking my beige Cole Haan pair on holiday and they're so comfortable I plan to wear them everyday!

Agreeing with Adelfa. To my eye an refined wedge is always in. I still miss a pair I wore continuously during the spring of 2007. I am convinced they would look great now.

Refined or not, my fussy feet don't do as well in a shoe without some cushy platform in front. So I will continue on wearing my wedges with a platform. I suspect I'm in good company there, as many of my friends have said they feel the same way, in terms of comfort. In my experience, somthing cute and comfy will have a very long lifespan, regardless of whether it is the trendiest thing at any given moment. So I guess I'm saying this is a bootcut jeans scenario.

I say wedges (sans platform) are a very classic look - that will always be in - some years not as in as others - but I would be bereft without them!!

I was just thinking the same as MG - I don't care if wedges are in or out, they're the comfiest 'heeled' option for me, so I'm going to keep wearing them.

I lurve my wedges too--so much more practical for me than heels. They are a classic in my own fashion stylebook.

I don't know. I think they're always around. Monster wedges came and went, but normal wedges -- especially wedge sandals -- are kind of classic, I think.

Wedge pumps seem like something that might go out of style, though. The daintiness of a pump is diminished by the thick wedge heel, and it seems to me that we choose pumps when we want to look sophisticated and elegant. So stiletto and regular heeled pumps seem more classic to me.

Agree with Adelpha:) I really hope a refined wedge remains a constant in fashion because it's my heel of choice. Height with comfort. Love them.
