Wedding: what color for my nails?

The wedding is coming up - I am planning to treat myself to a manicure tomorrow, something I rarely do. What color should I do? Please recommend specific OPI colors, if you know them, or post a pic so I can see the color.

I'll be wearing a charcoal grey metallic dress. Have yet to decide on which pumps - either purple or my giraffe pumps (the latter is my most comfortable pump). Clutch is black with gold hardware. Topper (if needed) will be AT tuxedo jacket.

Red seems like the no-brainer since it's xmas time but I think I'd like to do something different.

Festive wedding time! One of my favorite opi colors is Ruby Rajah I think it is called . A deep red with flecks of gold. If it works for you I highly recommend it have a great time!

I think the very deep purples, burgundy creams, navy blue, and taupes look fresh this time of year.

Are you wanting to go more understated or a little louder? I love Russian Navy, but I'm not sure if they make that anymore. It looks pretty similar to Vilking in a Vinter Vonderland, which is part of the Nordic collection.

I agree with KL. Over and over I pick a chrome navy colour when I go for the pro nail treatment. Love OPI.

Well, if you want to go matchy and subtle, wear the purple shoes and choose Essie's Merino Cool color. Seriously, it's like the most intriguing color. Could be taupe, grey, or lavender depending on the light.

Oh lots of options! Red is always very elegant "I'm Not Really a Waitress". I wear "Russian Navy," that would look great also. I love wearing black /black cherry nails and "Lincoln Park after Midnight" is stunning. Haven't tried it but "Vant a To Bite My Neck" is a gorgeous colour:). Good luck.

Diana - I do love that Essie Merino but I fear it's too close to the dress color.

KL & Runcarla - Russian Navy is gorgeous too, but I dunno. Maybe too neutral as the rest of my outfit is already neutral enough?

PalmFronds - that Ruby Rajah is beautiful .. I do like the idea of metallic flecks.

I'm thinking I'll bring my lipstick to see what looks best with it...

DD#1 thinks I should do gel this time, since I'm notorious for chipping my fingernail polish within hours. Which is why I stick to pedicures, usually.

'Lincoln Park after Midnight' is one of my favourites. I usually wear that for special events. I love it. I wore 'Not a Waitress' when I got married. I had a red wedding dress. It was okay. 'Lincoln Park after Midnight' would have been better'.

I find 'Lincoln Park after Midnight' works for warm and cool toned people. I am very warm and it works great. Looks good on my cool toned friends.

UPDATE: I went with the Lincoln Park After Midnight. Gel manicure -- my first. I hope I don't regret this later, but wow, it was faster and if it lasts two weeks, I'll be hooked. I rarely get manicures because inevitably I chip them within 24 hours, if not 1 or 2 hours.

Does anyone regret their gel nails?

I was really into gel nails when they first came out. I love how they stay shiny and last a long time. Then I had to go bare nails due to a surgery. I discovered that all the scraping off it takes to get rid of the gel nails left my nails really weak. It took them several months to recover their good natural state.

FWIW, nail polish wise, I'm really fond of the Zoya product. They have an excellent nude-ish range for a variety of skin tones. Paloma is great for pale pinky people like me. And I have a red velvet on my toenails for the holidays.

Shiny hope we get to see pics:) Lincoln Park after Midnight works with everything and I would suggest most lip colours.

Uh oh Shiny, I hope you don't contimue with the gel manicures! I had been going to the same place for manicures for years with no problem but as soon as I tried the gel polish, it ruined my nails and cuticles. It's taking a long time plus a trip to the dermatologist to recover. Fortunately, he said that I would. I love nail polish, so in the future, I will only use standard polish at home.

I usually do Essie polish but occ do gel nails. If you go to a quality salon and they adequately soak off your polish in the brand's recommended remover, the scraping should be minimal as the polish will lift off. Also, some gel brands work better for others. For me, CND works best on my nails. Ink and Gelish come off a bit harder. I prefer regular polish because there are so many more color choices, but I agree the longevity of gels cannot be beat. I do salon manicures every two weeks and am religious about wearing gloves in the kitchen. Regular polish will last about 10 days for me; gels last the whole two weeks.

I'm the same and regularly chip my nails! Or I'm too impatient when I do them myself and end up with a horrible smudged mess! Every so often, I'll get Shellac done; I find it not too hard on my nails. Wouldn't recommend it all the time, as you do use acetone to scrape off. But it's absolutely kinder than acrylics; which took me nearly a year to regrow from.

Gel nails should not ruin your nails. If they do then there is a problem with how they are removing them. I've been doing mine for over a year and my nails are fine. There should be no scraping.
