Wedding etiquette - bring a card to the reception?

Just wondering what do you typically do if you buy the gifts before the wedding via the registry? I always used to buy the gift a couple of weeks ahead of time and send it to the address on the registry.

Recently I read that some people like to bring a pretty card to the wedding reception (in addition to doing the registry thing). Do you do this? Is there usually a gift/card table at the reception? I like this idea but am wondering if it is going to be confusing to find a card without money in it. Hopefully not if the couple has already received the gift.

I don't think it's at all necessary if you've already sent a gift. If you want to do it anyway, maybe you could write inside something like "Sent your gift to the house already but wanted to wish you well on your special day!"

The last time I did this, I wrote, "Sunjay & Rita - hope you don't have to go back to the hospital soon, but when you do, I hope the Kurig will make your AM a little smoother!"

No, at most weddings I've been to lately (including my own) there is no gift/card table so you're not expected to bring anything. We did get several cards (most containing cash or checks) but they were all given to our moms to keep safe. if you've already sent a gift, that is all that's expected. If you do wish to bring a card I'd give it to the mom or a bridesmaid or something since I can guarantee the bride and groom won't want to keep track of it all night!

Most weddings here still have a gift table with a box for cards. However, if you have already sent a gift, I do not think a card is necessary. IMO, the separate card is only necessary if you are giving money instead of a different gift.

hmm, I actually bring a card to the wedding separately--seems like I'm the odd one out here. Even when I've already bought something from the registry--I like buying pretty wedding cards and in my experience, people like receiving them, too. I've been to a few of my friends' apartments where they have the cards displayed after their wedding.

I am such a card person so always bring a card unless I have hand delivered the gift myself prior to that.

Both of perfectly acceptable of course.

I make my own cards so each card is specifically done with the person in mind.

It's pretty standard to bring a card to the wedding reception. I just attended one over Memorial Day weekend, and there was a cute little "house" with a slot to put your card into for the bride and groom.

If you've already bought a gift, I like Lyn's idea of mentioning it in the card.
