I got married only 2 years ago and designed my dress. It was a January wedding. My dress was caramel silk velvet. I was going after the Camelot look, very romantic. My husband loves velvet which was the main reason I chose that fabric. We also got engaged in front of the Edinburgh Castle which of course holds special meaning for both of us. I love my dress and how I felt in it !! Obviously I am not looking for advice on how to change it (too late for that).but wanted to share part of my wedding with all of you.
I wondered if other married ladies would like to share a wedding dress shot?

Jean, that is stunning! You made such a perfectly beautiful bride, I'm so glad you shared this with us!

I love velvet, and the colour of that gown is perfect for you. I also plan on designing my own dress (if I ever get married), I can't imagine doing it any other way. I worked in bridal for many years, both retail and design, so have lots of experience with wedding dresses, but yours looks like it was really something special.

I am a bit of a "wedding-enthusiast" so I'm hoping some other ladies will share, as well!

Beautiful!! I love the dress.

I don't have a pic of mine handy, but it was white satin, scoop neck, sleeves to just above the shoulder, with a V waist & a full skirt. There was beading & embellishment on the bodice & a little on the sleeve. I was married in 1994, but my dress wasn't as volumous (sp?) as many dresses of the era. The shoulders were quite tame, and I only had a bit of tulle under the skirt. I felt that the shape of the dress fit my body perfectly. It's absolutely not in style any more, but I loved it anyway.

We planned the wedding in only one month, very low budget and low key. Dress I bought from Macy's for a song. Someone had just returned it. It was crumpled, had no tags, smelled like perfume, and had lipstick smeared all over it, and was hanging on the rack in the dressing room. I bargained them way down and also applied some coupons to get it for just a few dollars. All I had to do was dry clean it. The girls' dresses were purchased on ebay. Flowers by Whole Foods.

And yes, the bride wore Uggs.

Very lovely dress and story. A romantic engagemnet location too.

We eloped to Vegas and didn't take any pictures. I wore a white a line sheath in a cotton pique material (this was in 1992) with a black short jacket over the dress when we went to dinner.

We actually got married in the Drive thru at Little White Wedding Chapel - it was hilarious but ultimately perfect.

I wore it with red satin beaded strappy shoes with a kitten heel, my grandmother's double-strand pearl choker, white elbow gloves, a simple tiara with blue crystals on twisted wire, and a cathedral-length veil that my mom made out of shimmery tulle and beaded in the Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern at the edge. We got married in December so the red worked really well! My mom actually spotted the dress and made me try it on--I resisted at first. And then I ended up buying it!

My hair was short and blonde at the time and my stlist curled it with sideswept bangs. Very fun.

Chris, if Greg had his way, he’d have prefer to elope too. We got married in Cape Town 13 years ago in Dec on a perfect hot Summer’s day right outside the beach. I designed my own dress, my mother’s dress and my maid of honours dress. My dress was retro with pearls topped off with 70's dicso sandals. Precious moments.

Hey Jean,
You must have read my mind! With all the recent posts about weddings and wedding dresses, I was also contemplating this thread!

How fun it is to see all your wedding dresses! Jean, you looked like a fairy princess and Shiny, I remember seeing your pictures before and admiring the simple beauty of everything.

Here is my dress, as a special bonus, you get to see my face, too!:)
Also, I remembered that I have some pictures on photobucket already. So I posted the links. I hope that it works, let me know if you need a password or anything.

It has a beaded bodice, sweetheart neckline, full skirt, super long train. I also wore a cathedral length veil, the whole works!:)

I love wedding dresses!! It is so fun to see all of you gorgeous brides. Thankyou for starting this thread Jean, and thanks everyone for sharing. I love looking at wedding dresses and the people in them are SO happy.

Such beautiful brides. There are so many "if I had to do it over agains", but ultimately it was the happiest day of my life and I wouldn't change anything.

We got married in the Seattle area in early January in the evening.
I still have my dress, but it is four sizes too big now. It made me feel like a princess, even though I know now that it was ill-fitting.

Another January bride here. So, green eyes and January weddings are both supposedly rare but common among YLFers

Everyone looks absolutely stunning. Since it's Jean's thread, I have to comment especially on her photo -- she looks like she stepped out of Camelot!.

I think that all of us have such special memories of that day and wouldn't want to change a thing.
I did have a bit of a stressful time with my dress. A costume designer who was very creative but unpredictable called me 3 days before the wedding and told me that she was unable to cut out the dress because she threw her back out! I was in shock but she managed to get it done on time and it was beautiful!

Wow, Jean! I absolutely love your dress, and I love even more how it totally reflects you and your style. It is SO fitting, which makes it that much more special.

Brianna and Bella, your dresses are so beautiful too. Bella, I'm so happy we get to see you without sunglasses!! You guys look so happy. I think I commented on Shiny's post when she first made it, but I just love the kilt DH is wearing!! I love kilts on men. And your dress is so elegant and just perfect for the occasion. I love that you wore Uggs, too, heh.

Sarah, I just love your's and Bryan's winter wedding. I've been lucky enough to see more of the photos, and to me it looks just like a fairytale.

So, when Brendan and I got married, it was sort of spur of the moment due to job circumstances and other things. We were literally flat broke, so I just wore what I had, which wasn't much since this was pre-YLF days and I didn't really have any money to go shopping anyway. The top is from NY&Co, the skirt is one my grandmother had made for me when I was still in high school. It was the *only* skirt I owned, and I didn't own any dresses at the time. I kept it because it was special to me and I didn't want to get rid of it after she died. Then I ended up wearing it to my wedding, which was kind of neat. The shoes I borrowed from my mom. They are black stilletto heels and the red stripes are actually ZIPPERS with heart shaped zips, lol. I borrowed all the jewelry from my soon-to-be mum-in-law. We bought Brendan's whole outfit (including the tie) from Sears because I had a gift card. It cost $35.00 for everything.

Just for fun, cutting the cake in my Aunt's kitchen (she made the wedding dinner for us). Brendan and I made the cake from scratch the day before--traditional English fruit cake (Brendan insisted):

Jean -- what a gorgeous dress -- the velvet, the color! So cool that you designed it; seems perfect for your wedding. Glad you got your dress on time; that would have freaked me out.

It's a knee-length silk shantung sheath from Ann Taylor, with gold beading detail along the hem. I wore a pair of kitten-heeled gold mules (and almost fell over walking down the steeper-than-it-looked path down to the wedding party!)

This is the only one I have digitized (because we had it at my Dad's funeral - I have cut him and DH out of the pic), and doesn't show the rest of the dress, which was just straight and ankle- length. I too would have like a bit better (didn't fit my curved back too well) but I didn't think of it til one of my bridesmaids mentioned it on the morning of the wedding.

Newlywed here. Hubby and I tied the knot in March, 1 year 1 month and 1 day after we offically became a couple. The wedding ceremony was held in the church that I attended while growing up....and was absolutely perfect. The professional photos should be in next week - we order a LOT of pics - and I will try and post some of those then. For now, here are a few snap shots of my dress

The thing I love about the pictures is that everyone seems to really show their style personality in the dresses they picked. That's great.

Good timing for the thread - my 10-year anniversary is coming up tomorrow, so I'll have to scan the pictures and post them. We had an American church ceremony and an Indian ceremony about a year later.

Ana, I love your small, intimate, family wedding. My cousin got married a few years before I did in a park in central CA where we all grew up. It was so fun.
Kimlee, I also got married in the church that I went to from age 3. Many people who babysat me and took my (then single) mom under their wing were able to be there, and it was really special for me and my family.

Everyone is just so gorgeous!! This is such a fun thread. I am sipping my coffee and clicking through all the photos. I am addicted to that reality show Say Yes to the Dress. I drive DH crazy because he hates it. LOL.

I love how we have one group of brides in traditional gowns, and a whole 'nother set who had more casual affairs. All fun!

What a great thread! It's fun to see everyone's dresses, but Jean, you are perfection!
I was married in 1970 in the only dress that could be ordered to fit a very skinny bride in a Nebraska town. It was white lace and had full gathers at an empire waist and made me look like a doll.
Later I realized that several people thought I was a preggie bride because of the fullness in the front of the dress (in an era when this would be a great scandal) but they were proved wrong with time.
