I have a question for you ladies. I have been storing my wedding dress for many years. However, it takes up a lot of space for me because she's huge. I don't know whether to keep it or sell it. It is an Italian dress and it can be boldly classified as vintage (1996). Does anyone buy dresses of this type? I will add that it is a pregnancy version

I wouldn't store it. If its sentimental, maybe you can have it remade into something you can wear? I'm planning on having mine made into a skirt. People do buy them, but I doubt you would get much money for it.

Depends how attached you are to it and whether it would class as a family heirloom.l think that daughters generally won’t wear what their mother wore but granddaughters sometimes will. Obviously the pregnancy styling is something to take into consideration as well.Presumably you have wedding photos to remind you of the day,so it could be repurposed or passed on.

My two daughters say she is beautiful but that's not their style Puffed organza dresses are out of date now.

That is an amazing dress!!
I bet you’d find a buyer, but it could take a while.
If it’s not about the money, you could contact an organization that collects prom dresses and ask them if they could use it

The dress has an extra long frill train ~~ 10 feet. A few years ago I sold two "identical" mini dresses that belonged to bridesmaids (flower girls).
The whole wedding was very difficult to survive in her because the summer was then hellishly hot and humid.

Wow, that is an amazing dress! A true meringue and I mean that as a tremendous compliment. I'm glad you asked this question, because I have been wondering the same thing. My dress and veil don't take up a lot of space, but they were handmade by friends. Very simple style, tea length lace overlay with long sleeves.

I would donate. My wedding dress is long gone, it was slim lined and I dyed it and rewore it as it a cocktail dress. I don’t miss it.

That is an amazing dress and someone would definitely appreciate it. You could sell or donate and make another bride very happy.

Like CAT, I altered and dyed my dress so I could wear it to parties a few times, then eventually donated it. It required complicated underpinnings, so I never reached for it. I say, free up the space and let it go!

Amazing dress though. Love it!

This is a good question. I wore the dress my mom wore and it was hand made by my grandma so it does have sentimental value. My mom passed away last year and she stored it so now I have to figure out what to do with it. I doubt my daughter would wear it, even though it is fairly simple (tea length, satin skirt, lace bodice). I don't think I could bear to get rid of it though.

As you can see we have a similar problem. My daughters don't want her either and the sentiments remain. Daughters say there is too much glamor in her. My problem is that the dress takes up almost half of the wardrobe. It may look modest in the photos, but in reality the dress is much bigger :/

A word of caution about passing along wedding gowns. One of my SILs wore her mother's gown. Somehow it occurred to no one that the original thread (from the 1950s) might have rotted out (by 1989).

Mid-reception, on the dance floor, the entire bodice detached from the full skirt.

I vote donate and hang one of your gorgeous wedding photos on the wardrobe wall instead.

I donated my dress after my second son was born, and our family was complete. The style and fabric was such that it couldn’t be made over into something else. I have kept the simple veil (it was attached to flowers) for sentimental reasons, and because it was pretty!

My sister’s wedding dress was a moiré taffeta, which I shortened to tea length and which she wore a few times. I made a christening gown for her children with the fabric cut off from the skirt. A lace dress like yours might convert into trim for a nightgown and robe set that you could wear now.

The exuberant floofiness actually reminds me a lot of the styles designer Christian Siriano is showing on Instagram these days.
I have noticed that both Poshmark and eBay are selling a lot of "Y2K Vintage" styles. (Yes, it hurts my feelings that anything from the late '90's is now "vintage," but there you go.)
If you decide to sell, you might have luck going with the Y2K angle!

It never even occurred to me that my daughter would have any interest in my wedding gown. I plan to make baby things from the fabric when/if I have grandchildren - maybe a blanket, a pillow and/or a little suit or dress. Mine, too, is obviously of an Era, so I'm sure that the only other option would be donation.

I still have mine, but it is minimalist and could be worn to a regular formal event.
I have donated more elaborate clothes to the theatre though.

I did not have an expensive wedding dress and it is long gone with having to store it and not having daughters. A friend made her dress into Christening dresses for several grandchildren. She has 5 daughters, all married and not one wore her dress. So she made at least 5 christening gowns and used pearls from her dress too. I would sell yours. It is naturally a full skirt, so would not need to be advertised as a pregnancy dress. It might be good for a bride with weight fluctuations.
