The show is a daytime show in Seattle. I only catch it if I'm at home sick. From what I've seen from the stylist's website she is a regular on the show. But I think with a true social media campaign we could get Angie on as least as a guest. They have a LOT of local businesses featured, it is not HARD news. Some of it is basically glorified product placement. But I really do think Angie would do well. Plus the current stylist is very pregnant, so maybe a sub at the very least.

Also, to add -- what I think was good about the stylist's outfits and ideas was her attempt to make them "real world" outfits. She kept the price point within reach of a good portion of her audience, and as Anna points out, had them modelled by women with different body types, not just model-thin young girls. Also, they were at least somewhat responsive to the actual climate -- or were intended to be.

Ah! That's a good thought. Okay. Will write to them.

I think if we can do anything to bring their attention to Angie as a stylist that would be great but I agree with Suz it should be done in a positive way and not by saying that their current stylist does not do a good job. I am sure Angie herself would not approve of this.
This is why I asked if this stylist is a permanent feature on the show or they showcase different stylists. Do they invite guests from different areas of interest? That may be the best way to get Angie on the show.
Unfortunately I am not an expert in social media at all: YLF is the only one I use - so I am not sure what would be the best approach here. Anybody has more experience with it?

I really don't think they are that picky for guests. Yesterday it was employees from a local UPS store telling all about their services.

Suz - could you maybe draft up a lovely, well phrased letter that we could all e-mail? Perhaps highlighting Angie's industry experience as well as her blog etc?

I think it would help the campaign a lot if we gave people a standard letter to send in to King News, or at least a solid starting point.

Actually real emails, NOT carbon copies would be better. More organic. Also that is why I mentioned facebook and Twitter. My facebook comment got a response within hours.

Wow, the women in this clip look like the before shots on a make over show. I scanned the list and thought it was pretty quick and dirty which is fine but you're right the proportions are off and pass-me-by-beige is the the most memorable thing about any of them. It makes me wonder if the stylist was limited to certain pieces the stores wanted to showcase. Isn't fashion supposed to be inspirational? The only thing these looks would inspire me to do is change the channel.

I can't believe a professional stylist put any of these boring looks together unless under duress to keep the looks bland. They really do need Angie.

I can't get the video to load on my tablet, but I'll look forward to seeing it on my computer tomorrow. If Angie's open to a television gig, I'm more than happy to support her any way I can. Heaven knows, she's worked a small miracle on me...from 3000 miles away!

I'll add to their fb page! I know I am not their viewing demographic, but it can't hurt! Thanks for bringing this up, Anna!

I don't want to bash their current stylist - even if I don't necessarily like her, I am not sure what her restrictions might have been. Maybe the network had to show what that store Aritzia wanted them to feature? IDK.

But it would still be fab for Angie to be suggested.

No time to watch the whole segment until a bit later, but the first screen shot and the ones above don't even look current to me. Nonetheless, I am in favor of suggesting Angie (if she doesn't mind) via facebook etc. without insulting the current stylist.

The stylist has a good tv presence but her styling abilities look provincial in this video. Her business partners are the retailers and Shoedazzle from whom all of the items are sourced. Granted some of them ("Hot Mama" and Shoedazzle) are not designer-oriented, pricier options. But I still think even a good number of YLF members could have styled these real-life models better, let alone Angie.

As a cropped top wearer, I thought her proportions were off and the fit was off too.

I do like that she used real-life models and like the way she herself was styled.

I also wanted to see more of an "oversized" or "fluid" fit in these outfits. They looked tight to me.

I think the stylist probably has a contract with this tv show. Angie could add so much class to this tv show. But to pitch Angie because the present stylist sucks, would be the wrong way to approach things. I would not link back to this thread, far too critical of this poor pregnant stylist.

I would pitch it more as, Angie is great with age -appropriate dressing (Karen as model), or how to dress by body type. She could have a whole series on this, one a week.

I wonder if Angie would even want to be on the program. I imagine that she could have a regular gig on national TV if she wanted it. Nevertheless, this show does point out how lucky we are to have her blog and her very active participation on the forum every day!
I did send a message to the show, not dissing their program, but saying I appreciated the topic and offering Angie's name as a very talented and influential local resource. I pointed to her Spring trend coverage and let them know I am an avid follower of her site.

I posted on the Facebook thread Anna started. Can't hurt and kept it positive!

Agree totally with Denise. Thanks for sharing this, Anna, and advocating for Angie. Angie would rock a gig like this, but as someone with broadcasting experience, I sincerely believe Angie's talents are in a league beyond the local news. I've only seen her on camera a little bit, but she has a personality and enthusiasm that shines through no matter what medium. If style broadcasting were something she was inclined to pursue, I'd aim her towards a more national or even international audience.

Anna - I think you bring up a very important point in general. Angie, Greg, Inge - everyone who makes YLF run invests such amazing time and energy in creating such an extraordinary blog and community. It's important for us to find ways to give back and explore how we can do that. Although, I was nodding a along with your assessment of the shows outfits, I do agree with everyone's comments, that honey catches more flies than vinegar. I think we truly must support Angie and YLF without negativity. Angie's message is so positive and supportive that I think we must stay very attuned to that spirit, really the heart of YLF, this is what sets Angie and this place apart to begin with!! I don't personally use social media but I am eager to explore other ways of getting the message out there!!

I agree that the outfits aren't what we expect to see for Spring. But, we are a very privileged few compared to the many people who don't know about Angie and this site.

Would Angie even want a gig like this? I don't know and I am hesitant to advocate (not that my words would carry any weight with the station as I am in another country on the other side of the continent!) when I don't know if that is even something that Angie would want.

I totally agree, Angie is a treasure and is so generous and giving of herself, the world needs more of her, but I don't know if this is the best way.

I agree with Ceit, we haven't even heard Angies' point of view on this yet. I do agree that she is an absolute treasure though.

Agreed. If Angie would want a gig like this, I am happy to draft a positive, supportive letter that does not compare to the other stylist but simply outlines Angie's incredible (and various) strengths and offers her as an addition they may not have considered. Although, like Ceit, I am not sure it would have a lot of weight, given my location!

Still -- I do think the story for them might not be purely the fashion story, in this case. There is a more news-y element in that Angie is doing something that very few bloggers or stylists do -- uniting women from across the globe, various age ranges, different sizes, body types, budgets, etc. It's pretty remarkable.

But I think we should find out if Angie would actually be interested in doing something like this in the first place.

Exactly. I'm not sure I would want people plotting my future without my input. All be it well meant though. I'm sure Angie will chime in at some point. I know we all love her to bits and the stylist on that show seemed to have no clue. I think we're spoiled on here.

Thank you for starting this thread Anna. I especially liked reading your suggestions for improving the outfits, and comparing them with my own ideas post-YLF. I can understand why it is so galling to see what can pass for fashion advice that falls pretty far from the mark. And I agree with Janet, that dear Angie is really playing in a different league -- how lucky we are to have her Nobel-level wisdom!

@Rabbit, I have not figured out high heels myself. But I also noticed the spoken word 'comfortable' with the close up of the little toe trying to go home, so I figured that could not be the proper size shoe, the poor model just had to make it work.

Has anyone asked Angie if she actually wants to be a part of this?

I see potential for some serious overstepping.

Thank you Anna, and everyone else, for your awfully complementary and thoughtful words and ideas. It means a great deal to me.

I don’t want to judge the show’s outfits too harshly because I don’t know the constraints Darcy was under. Also, fashion is subjective, so although the outfits didn’t resonate here, they might have done so with others. I do love that the looks were sported on a range of body types.

The question some people raised in this thread about whether I would even want to be on TV is an interesting one. The truth is, I don’t know. I found it very stressful the few times that I have been in front of a camera. My dream, the thing I passionately work on every day, is to take YLF to largest audience that I can. I love working with my clients individually, but I also love interacting on the web though writing and participating in the forum. We want to be the top style advice and fashion community in the world - which includes YOU.

TV shows are definitely entertaining, but I don’t find them as effective because there is no opportunity to respond to the audience, make clarifications and explain your choices. There is no interaction. That makes it very hard.

Again, I’m blown away by the support and encouragement shown on this thread. Many, many thanks. WOW. xo

Angie, that makes perfect sense to me. The interaction and community and opportunities for personal growth are what make this site so special and TV isn't necessarily the best medium for conveying that.

That makes sense, Angie! What about a guest appearance like "featured stylist" - would something like that appeal?

I had two thoughts :

1. This is in Seattle and Angie is not on ? Talk about a hidden gem that is in your own backyard !

2. The "list" actually is very similar to Angie's. But the individual pieces and mixes make those "must-have" pieces not very attractive.

Anna, please, please change the channel. ; )

Thanks, Suz.

Una, possibly.

I've been following without responding, waiting to hear what Angie had to say. Her response as always is full of class. I LOVE that her goal is to take YLF as big as possible Glad we already discovered it and it feels good contributing to such an awesome forum.
