...and not a moment too soon. I am soooo tempted to spend the rent money getting that stuff from Dutti again, and bootcut pants and all of these at Anthropologie and White Stuff, Desigual, and Free People, (where the finds tool isn't set up). My kid ate last week. No need to feed him again, right?

I'm not sure if I want someone to stop me or enablers, lol.

Have fun shopping your closet! It may all seem new to your eyes, since it’s been so long since you’ve had your stuff. Once you’ve looked through everything, I would treat yourself to a few pieces that will be useful in your new climate and help you pull together your existing pieces in new ways.

Kathie, that’s what one half my brain is telling me. The other half, however, claims that’s what this is—that these pieces are just to fill in the rest. Rolling my eyes at myself there.

Food and rent are the definite priority, so no enabling from me. Fantastic news that you are getting your clothing so soon, as Kathie said, you will feel so much better having your full wardrobe to play with.

In addition, it is probably best to wait and see what your work environment is like before buying clothing for the new job. There will be more beautiful clothing on offer and getting items that you know will work is always the best strategy.

Maybe it is time to stop looking at those online shopping temptations. Have a play in your closet when it arrives and post some creative WIWs or set some fashion challenges for us all to complete!

The items you posted all look like a lot of fun, but not for a cohesive wardrobe, that would make it easy for you to get dressed and get to work each day. (And your recent posts seem to have been focused on work clothes.) For example, pictures 8-10 are all fairly short dresses, so could be problematic in some work environments. And 12 is something that could wait for warmer weather in the northern hemisphere. Of the pieces you posted, I'd consider 4 as a topper, if it works with pieces you already own, and maybe 5. But, I'm with Bijou, I'd wait to purchase anything until you have a clearer sense of your work environment. I do really hope you find a job that enables you to wear the clothes that you love!

Finally! It sounds like you have a good chance to shop your wardrobe, while keeping in mind what you already know about your new climate and lifestyle. But I agree with Bijou and Kathie that you need to figure out work before going too hog wild. If it helps, I have tried that skirt on and it runs VERY SMALL and was very tight around the belly. I decided not to even bother trying to size up.

FashIntern, I am wrapping up my fall/winter shopping (10 items total) and putting the kibosh on wardrobe spending between now and New Years. I'm thinking of doing a "Shop Your Closet" challenge for the month of November, filling perceived holes using what I already have. I already opt out of Black Friday and Boxing Day sales, but the more ongoing seasonal promotions often lure me in. I'd really like to get through the holiday sale season without buying anything for myself and limit my time spent browsing, too. I have better things to do!! Sometimes the hard-earned satisfaction of sticking to a no-shopping challenge beats the quick-fix satisfaction of a new top/scarf/whatever.

@La Ped - I will participate in your "Shop Your Closet" challenge - it sounds like fun and I have completed most of my spring / summer wardrobe update, so I need to stop buying new things that I don't really need.

Christine, every little bit helps! That skirt is actually more than I want to pay right now—2,4,5,6 & 10 are the only ones I’d really consider right now, if I were in shopping mode. Any red bag is going to have to wait until I’ve decided about red boots.

La Ped, I’m not sure what a “shop your closet” challenge looks like, but I’m a prime candidate for one! Yes, please do run it.

I don’t think of myself as a spendthrift or a fashion person, so it seems like a topsy-turvey world when folks in a fashion site encourage me to hold off on the buying. I really appreciate it. Thank you. Kathie, Bijou, La Ped and Christine!

That really isn’t that much of a gap to fill in, so I may hold off on the footwear purchases as well. Or at least take a more relaxed approach. Instead of “window” (on a Mac, ha!) shopping when I’m uptight, I should spend the time reading up on places I want to apply to, and the field in general.

It’s soooo fab being reunited with your stuff! Feels like Xmas. I have been through that too many times. This is the fourth continent I have lived in. ENJOY.

I suspect you’ll need quite a big wardrobe refresh across the seasons. VERY different climates FL and Berlin. Take it three months at a time. Review, assess, road test, and tweak.

And yes you need red boots and also the pink boots!
Shop your closet is a shopping fast while you wear what you have and try to restyle things. And meanwhile youre evaluating whats working, not working, and seeing if theres wardrobe holes. As opposed to assuming theres a wardrobe hole that needs filling.
Mine is due to photo 1 similarities and yes a few things still haven't been worn yet (due to weather).

Suntiger, thanks. I'm familiar with the SYC idea, just not how to make it a challenge. But I guess La Pedestrienne has an idea. You know, says the little devil on your other shoulder, there is a US version of that site...

Angie, yes, that's another good reason to take it slow. I have unworn fleece-lined tights, long johns in good shape, etc. on the way, but who knows if it's the right number and colors.

I need to shop my closet for November for practical and financial reasons. I’m going to be away for half the month, and maybe that’s cheating since I’ll be using smaller capsules at those times. But I’m in, La Ped!

Oh, that’s so exciting! I personally love wallowing in my own stuff, arranging it and rearranging it. Like, I enjoy having a seasonal closet, packing things up and unpacking them.

FashIntern my vote is don’t let that money burn a hole in your pocket while waiting for your ship to come in!

I agree with others that the items in your first post look like wardrobe “icing” for the most part, and not particularly suited to a conservative work environment. (I think you have mentioned that workplaces in Germany are more conservative, sartorially, than those in the US.)

Let the arrival of your stuff satisfy your desire for novelty for now. I think you’ll be glad for some funds to play with once you know where you’ll be working and what you need.

I sure do love all the pretties you posted, but you’ll get the practical pitch from me. Take your time. Enjoy revisiting your clothes and shopping your closet first. Decide what still works, well, what really doesn’t work any longer and what needs a boost (a fab accessory can often change the vibe of an outfit).
Every season offers something exciting and new. Give yourself the gift of time. I think it will be worth the wait.

Roberta, feed himself? Barely. I just got done taking the pesto and tomatoes off my teen-ager's pizza. He knows it's a silly request, but I still do it. Eye roll. Not sure which of us is to blame at this point. (In his defense, there are lots of ways that he does more/is more responsible than other kids his age, so it balances out.)

Oh, and the bag is on sale for $70, a lot less than the last red bag I looked at.
