I did not grow up in an especially big family and the workings of DH's have never ceased to amaze me even after 15+ years. Anyway, without getting into the details of how the clan works, we are coming to New York in October for the briefest possible time to attend our nephew's wedding. I have questions.

1. It is a day wedding on Long Island. MOG is wearing a gown but I think a dress is sufficient. Right?
2. The theme color is navy, whatever that means, but I am pretty stuck on the idea of wearing this dress (pic #1). I am a little burnt out on dress shopping right now. I am picturing it with big fishnets ala pic #2 (Creatures of the Wind show last week).
Very open to suggestions.
3. My hair. Despite having the most successful haircut of my life, I am a little antsy to try something new. I am thinking of something like this (realizing I have neither Yasmin Sewell's face shape, youth, nor looks). But it is pretty fuzzy right now. Should I get it cut for the wedding or persevere?

Thoughts and opinions on any or all of these will be greatly appreciated!

(Una, I don't want every family picture of me to star the Vince dress or it would be a strong contender - possibly with a pencil skirt underneath, not that I tried that yet. And Joy, yes, we are all going :-0)

J'Aileen said it. Those fishnets are astonishing! Do you have a source for them? You look adorable in that dress. The Vince silk is a great one (just caved to the lemming instinct and bought it in blue myself tonight) but you look so festive in the picture above . . . have fun!

I love that dress, it looks like it could be navy. If it's black at least it's not red when the bride has a navy theme. I think the fishnets are a great idea, I'm impressed that you're watching the shows for inspiration, if you feel like sharing your favorites via Pinterest or here, I'm interested.

I think you are every bit as pretty as Yasmin. I agree don't mess with your current cut.

You're a daredevil, changing your haircut before a wedding, no, I wouldn't recommend that (I'm a chicken though).
Yasmin's cut is classic and conventional compared to yours, is that the direction you want to go?

You look great in the dress. Have the shoes planned? Eventual topper if it's cold?

Agreeing 100% on your wedding attire. You will look sensational. I love that beautiful dress and how nice to have another occasion to wear it.

I completely understand your desire to change your hair, I have an assymetrical cut and there's something about them that makes you turn from feeling cutting edge and chic to bored in an instant, with no reversal of feeling. But I'm with Skylurker, it can be a bit risky to switch before an event, especially because styling in a new climate can bring its own challenges. I'd stay with what you know and investigate possibilities later when there's time to contemplate.

I understand not wanting to wear the same dress for every major event. I even posted a question on that last year...now that everything is on Facebook it makes me think twice about what to wear and how it will be perceived. ("She's wearing that dress again.") Does that make me shallow?

Denise I am just a show dabbler and only peek at the ones that catch my eye for one reason or the other. The stockings did catch my eye. So did Cristopher Kane and Paul Smith lately.
Tulle I don't have a source, and I am still looking. The closest I have found are costume shops and porn sites. Hmm. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
Skylurker you picked up on the family situation in your usual perceptive way. As for my hair, it is not really that I want to look more conventional, but after seeing myself so long with this style I guess I am feeling restless.
But I will keep it at least for the wedding, since it won't grow enough for anything else in the next few weeks. Still contemplating shoes.

Aliona you understood me exactly. After a while it just no longer looks fresh and different, but I should bear in mind that most people don't look at me nearly as often as I do.

Aquamarine I don't think of it as shallow, just practical. The wedding pictures that I will appear in will be a large overlapping set with the groups from my son's bar mitzvah. It would just seem wrong to be wearing the same dress somehow.

Agreed with the consensus! I love your asymmetric hair and even though I think you could wear that style you posted, I think it would be a bit more conventional.

I agree from experience with everyone else about not changing your hair right before the wedding. I had a super short haircut before my sister in laws wedding years ago. It was absolutely horrid and of course I was in all the pictures ! I was totally miserable. My sister in law ended up getting divorced after 5 years and luckily for me those pictures were banished from all our homes :)) I will NEVER make the same mistake again.

Yes along with everyone else! I love that dress. And I would postpone a hair change til after, otherwise you will still be learning how to deal with it, right when you want it to be reliable.

I love the idea of that dress with the big fishnets! I think it'll be great for the wedding - it being Long Island you might have some women in flashy gowns or borderline inappropriately flamboyant dresses ( depends on the crowd of course) but you'll be just fine.

Sorry to bump this, but I have to say THANK YOU to Janet and Ginger and Aida for your brilliant hose suggestions. Janet your pick is on its way to my SIL.

Diana, it should be an interesting mix of characters as family gatherings always are. The bride's family is from Russia and their will be Russian music along with traditional Jewish stuff and who knows what else.

Angie, a big hug for using your arm, although you shouldn't have!
