*We do have a real Nordstrom, and it probably does a ton of business for
the size of our city (since it's the only nice game in town). That's
most likely why the Rack is even coming here.

Not really... They're just building Racks now. We don't have a Nordstrom, but got the Rack. Nordstrom appears to be extremely conservative with expansion and they might have a point, as far as their own bottom line goes. I was very surprised to read somewhere recently that even a Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus closed one location each. While the news about NM doesn't surprise me that much, I am kind of puzzled that Nordstrom would close. There are certainly some very expensive items there, but there are also some quite reasonably priced ones, and they do go on sale.
I also don't like the fact that the same chain stores are quite different depending on location. Phoenix metro has 2 Nordstrom stores - one in Scottsdale and one in Chandler. Since Chandler is closer and more convenient to me, one day I decided to go there, hoping a Nordstrom is a Nordstrom... Well, no! The one in Chandler can't hold a candle to the Fashion Square location in Scottsdale... It's not just Nordstrom, though. Macy's, Dillard's, etc. also have nicer stores, with better merchandise, in the bigger cities and in the more upscale malls. C'est la vie...
