WDYT: Black sport sandal

Would appreciate your thoughts on these two sporty sandals for casual wear. Are they “ugly” enough to look current? I’m testing the waters with this look and don’t want to make a big investment. I was initially attracted to the white/black but the plain black is growing on me too. Thanks in advance!

I can see them both on you, and though the black and white ones do look "uglier" than the others, and therefore maybe more current, I am drawn most to the black ones. That might be because I have a very similar pair in brown and love them.

I really like the black / white and I guess I’m just weird enough that I don’t find them ugly at all !

Thanks for the quick feedback, Christel and Lisa. I go back and forth on this kind of stuff because I feel like I fall in that (age) category where this style can easily look like it’s not intentionally trendy. (It’s like the dad sneakers.) I’m going to give them a try!

While I like white soles on summer footwear for the lightening up, they need more attention and cleaning than you may want to do. The black also looks like it would be more comfortable because it is not as high.
In either case, go for comfort. Either could turn out to be an ugly/cute stylish workhorse. ( to me they are a bit bearish rather than ugly)

I think if you're testing the trend out, then it would make more sense to try the all black sandals first. The white & black ones veer into much more trendy territory, if you ask me, & therefore may be harder to style.

I have to admit my eye hasn't adjusted to these "ugly" styles yet, including the dad sneakers. I'd love to see them on you because I think you could change my mind!

I'm trying to give styles like this a second chance too, though I fear I'm feeling a bit more like Robin. I tend to do "ugly lite" like these Arche sandals, which I wear a lot in summer, and could stand to have another pair in a little more sporty rendition. So I'll be watching if you try those, although I sometimes worry that getting TOO tricky with ugly sandals may not work with my less-than-stellar legs. But I like keeping my summer footwear current since I can no longer rely on jackets and scarves to funk up my look.

Black and white sandal is more trendy/current, black sandal in #2 is just sporty looking ( almost vacation/outdoors only to my eye ). Then again - it's all how you style it.

I decided to order the black/white combo to try out. I've had good luck with the Earth brand in the past so we will see if they pass the comfort and style test. I've got some neutral knit summer dresses that I want to funk up--will report back.
@Joy: Yes, the white sole could be problematic although I've had good luck keeping the sole on my Nike Roshe pretty clean with a white eraser.
@Robin: Lol. I'm not sure I can pull of dad sneakers either. I look at them but I wore those the first time around...not sure I want to revisit those.
@Janet: I like those Arche! Those look comfortable and stylish--I like the term "ugly lite" but those don't look ugly to me at all. They look like normal sandals. You have a gorgeous figure and shapely legs--I wouldn't fret at all. I do feel like black is so high contrast that getting the right look can be tricky. That's kind of why I am drawn towards the one with white to add some "lightness."

@slimcat: That was kind of my take too. Thanks for the affirmation. I thought they looked a little bit too much like my plain brown Tevas from decades ago. But then I thought, maybe they're not as obnoxious looking...

I quite like the B&W, they look graphic and intentional to me. The black look more like gear.

@Angie: I've tried but something about the way the bias moulds to your body prohibits me from taking it home. I think non-bias cuts are more forgiving perhaps? Never say never though!
@Sharan: Have you sewed a bias skirt?

I like the black and white. I feel the all black need to be worn with a super cute dress to be properly ugly. If you wear them jeans or shorts, I think they’ll be blah, not proper fashion ugly...

The black and white get my vote. You will look great in a bias cut skirt, I think it is the issue that some so called bias cut skirts are not really cut on the bias to conserve fabric.
