Yippee! I figured it out...why the loo seat was loose (an annoying phenomenon). I thought I had one type of loo (an all in one - seat's nuts permanently sealed) and was bemoaning the fact to the Home Depot person helping me. He asked if I was sure it was a Kohler loo and I said sure, St. Thomas Creations by Kohler. Aha! he said, it was not a Kohler loo but in fact an off brand. Said I could easily get to the nuts to tighten around the bolts...came home and voila! I saw the wing nuts! I have vanquished the ever elusive reason to the loose loo seat. All is good in the world and our civilization is saved. I'm getting pretty good at being my own handyperson around the house
