Way O/T home waxing question (and maybe TMI!)

I am about to wax my underarms for the first time ever. Is a week of growth enough? About 1/8" or so? It's all I can do to last a week without shaving, I'm hoping I don't have to wait 2!!
I am going to use the Nad's strips http://www.drugstore.com/produ.....ram=401984 I have used them on the bikini line with fine results, but never under the arm. Same deal, different area?
Should I wait for more growth or am I ready?

I usually use Nads strips, too. I find that a week's worth of growth is plenty. Any longer than 1/8 of an inch just gets all unruly and tricky to manage. Good luck in you adventure!

No idea, I am just cringing at the whole thought of this. But I do recommend against drunken waxing!

I find the bikini area more sensitive than underarms, though the latter still hurt like b****! I recommend lots of deep breaths.

@_@ i'm anxious to hear how this goes. I'm a baby when it comes to pain. Maybe you can just keep pounding wine until you pass out and forget all about it?

well . . . it does smart, that's for sure! And I didn't get all the hair - ugh. That means trying again next week, I suppose. And maybe next time I'll do 2 aspirin and 1 wine instead of 2 wine and 1 aspirin. Lol.
To be honest, I bet it would be easier with a partner because it's pretty hard to keep your skin taught with limited use of your hand, you know?

I am so curious...are there advantages to waxing over shaving other then slower re-growth 'cause for me a quick swish swish with the razor under each arm in the shower and I'm done. No pain, quick, easy. Am I missing something?

To each their own, I guess. I'd never shave my bikini line but thousands of women do. Others wax their legs, while I happily shave them. Just thought I'd give it a try, really. I do like the smoothness of no stubble already.

I'm not judgeing Mo, I just really wanted to know if there are other benefits. I know re-growth is slower. I have never waxed so that is all. Sorry if I came across wrong.

Mo if you haven't done it before I would suggest 1/4" of growth so that the wax can actually get into all the hair. It almost hurts MORE to have the wax grab at, but not pull out, the hairs (especially for armpits!). I don't wax but I do use an epilator (similar effect). HUGELY better than shaving, not even comparable. I've used it for years; I'm to the point now where I can do it once or twice a week, which just takes a few minutes, and I can happily wear sleeveless tops without any other work. If I don't need sleevless-perfect pits, once every week or two is enough. The pain most definitely lessens as you do it more

Thanks Aida. I do know about the reduced pain, and hair growth, after time with bikini waxing and assume it will be the same with the 'pits. I remember the Epilady in the mid 80's and heard it hurt; never tried it myself. I think I'll keep at it this summer and see how it goes.

I do my underarms with an epilator, too. Don't even feel it anymore and it's much quicker, easier and less expensive than waxing. Riiiiip!

All I can say, Mo, is that you're way braver than me. I don't think I could get through home waxing - I'm flinchy enough when someone else is doing it!
