I'm back with another wavy hair product trial! Skip to the * if you read my previous hair posts, otherwise I provide a summary.
To catch you up in case you have not read my previous threads, I'm working to find products that work well with my wavy, silvery hair now that I have grown it longer. My previous regimen made my scalp inch and also created heavy helmet hair. I have tried several samples so far, and really liked the combination of Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo, Curl Junkie Beauticurls Argan &Olive Oil Daily Hair Conditioner plus Mop Top Curl Custard. My hair felt light and soft, my waves were defined but everything went poof in the humid outdoor air, so its something that might work better for me in the winter or if I visit dry climates. I also did not love the strong smell of the Mop Top Curl Custard....
Next, I tested what Original Moxie refers to as their "Cotton Candy hair" samples.
It was a disaster. My hair became very frizzy....so frizzy that I did not even let it dry, I re-washed it, and used some small samples I had of Jessicurl gentle lather shampoo, and a couple Innersense products. My first Innersense trial was the Hydrate Conditioner plus the Quiet Calm Curl Control Creme along with very little of their I Create Hold gel. My hair still seemed frizzy with this mix but I was unsure if it was from residual Original Moxie or the Innersense. My hair also lacked the light and bouncy feel it had when I had trialed the Curl Junkie and the Mop Top.
* For my most recent wash, I used the Jessicurl Shampoo again, and then I paired it with a sample of Innersense Pure Radiance Daily Conditioner and what I had left of my sample of Innersense I Create Hold. This combination seemed magical. My hair even when wet felt softer than usual, and my day one hair had soft, unfrizzy loose curls about the size of sidewalk chalk, plus very well defined tighter waves. These pictures are my second day hair, and most of the curls flattened out when I was sleeping (wearing a silk bonnet) however, there is very little frizz, my hair feels light, soft and bouncy. Not sticky, stiff, crunchy or heavy. This combination also passed the humidity test. My hair did not poof or get more frizzy outside. Finally, no itchy scalp. I thought maybe shea was causing my itchy scalp, but these products do have shea.
They are very pricey! Wow! However, I needed very little product, about half of what I might use of the others, so I think whatever I purchase will last a long time.
I am going to buy larger bottles, and keep using them to see how my hair reacts over time. Also, I will play around with the various techniques that people suggested for refreshing wavy/curly hair. So far I haven't done any refreshing since I was trying to assess products.
I have an appointment to get my hair cut in July. I can see that my ends look uneven and my lob style is not as angular as I would like. I'm starting to look for hair inspo pics. Suggestions are welcome!
