Watches - any advice on buying?

Hi Angie

I'm slowly sorting out my wardrobe, after spending many happy hours reading your blog, but one of the things I do not have is a good watch.

Are there any posts about choosing watches? I love the white watches that you and others have bought, but think they will not suit my clear spring warm colouring. It needs to be functional as well as decorative because of my work (clear minute markings and second hands).

Do you have any pointers on size, shape and colour that would give me an idea of what to start looking at? I have reasonably slim hands with a squarish shape to them (if that makes sense!) and reasonably slim wrists and lower arms. The rest of me is rather curvier!

I feel a bit bewildered about this - much as I did about clothes before I started reading your blog last May...

Take a look at the Michael Kors watches. I was gifted with a "unisex" chunky silver metal with a big round pearly white face. It is very functional with second hand and easy to read even without glasses. I've seen other fab Michael Kors watches posted here.

I think folk have had a lot of luck with watches at Fossil and Nordstrom. I would head to both these places and try on a few things. I like the lightweight watches from Swatch.

If you have a fossil outlet nearby you might want to check it out - they carry nearly all the different brands that they manufacture and you'll be able to try on a whole bunch. It really does depend on your wrist size & shape and really the best way of figuring it out is to go out and try them. I really liked the Michael Kors one that some forum members had purchased but when I actually tried it on, I found that it was too big for me and did not like the white as much as I thought I would. I ended up with a stainless Fossil BF watch that I love!

I'm quite excited by fossil and Michael Kors, having done some more online browsing. elpgal - you're quite right, I need to do some trying on. I'm in the UK but we've got a nordstrom equivalent from what I can work out (John Lewis).

Angie - you look so fab in all of those whites and yellows that I've always assumed you were cool colouring! I'm going to look at some more photos from the blog in a new light...

I would normally buy a round watch, reasonably small, with a black or brown strap and with probably silver buckle etc. Extremely dull. Simplicity is important but I don't want to buy anything more that is boring - I would like a bit more edge now.
