Hmmm. I am American but have a small Slovenian washer sold as a Danby in the U.S. & Canada but as a Gorenje in Slovenia. It is Euro sized. When I had the typical American size washer, I would do smaller loads with lower water levels. I mean, there is only so much white underwear my husband can have! I prefer to do laundry more often because psychologically, I don't like to have lots of items unavailable to me to wear.
We also have an 18" dishwasher instead of the typical 24". Sadly, no break in price. It is an excellent choice for our small family. When we had the regular sized DW, it wouldn't get run every day so we would end up hand washing serving dishes, favorite mugs, and the like.
Finally, our refrigerator is about 18.5 cubic feet which is extremely small by American standards. My husband is the cook, and he typically shops every day or two versus once or twice a week like many families. I know he will never change. Food would get lost and go bad when we had a larger fridge. This size is perfect, and we could probably get by with smaller.
We are highly unusual by American standards, especially since we live in a house and not a condo/apartment. Our house is two bedrooms, so these appliances are relatively in scale.
